Ok... Here's an update. My GFX card is now dead... I'm on a different computer.
I turned it on about an hour ago and my computer wouldn't past post. I pretty much knew what it was and I took the card out, put it back in and then it booted up. I found several gfx mistakes on my desktop and opened up Nvidia's temp monitor and it was reading 81 C (177 F) at idle and quickly climbing. On average it should be between 40-41 C. So I had to yank it out and throw it away (I knew this day would come).
I have to hand it to Asus and Nvidia. I had that card for six years with no trouble.
I will need to find a working AGP GFX card as a replacement for a while just to make sure the rest of my computer isn't fried. I'm not saving up for my next PC build but it will be awhile before I can afford anything since work is really scarce.
RIP my one time almighty Geforce FX.....

So your GPU really was on its way out! Man, I would hardly have suspected it. Well, I've learned something new, so thanks for sharing.

It depends on when you ripped it out if you turned off your pc before you pullled out the card you'll be fine and there wouldn't have been any damage done to your computer. Graphics cards are crafty they tend to trick you into thinking that everything BUT the graphics card is to blame.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

That sucks. usually they don't blow out like that either.. I've gone through about 10 of them, until I figured out that I had to run a dedicated powerline to my electric box and have battery backups and an extra surge protector.
If I had a spare I'd ship one up there, as usually I'd have one sitting around. I'll let you know if I come across one.

Never disconnect any internal components in a computer while it's still on.... nor when the power cable is still plugged in.
The card is fried, but I need to check to make sure that nothing else is. I should know by tonight or latter this weekend.

Thanks Jademz, but I might be getting one tonight from a friend. I think he has a Radeon or something I can have till I get a new computer built. Plus I need to see if the rest of my computer is ok as well so if I can get one from him tonight then I'll know for sure. |

Yeah, I suspected it was just a driver problem or just a bad Java install or something, but it did turn out that the card was physically damaged. The temp was raising up too high too quickly at idle... plus it was 6 years old. The fans RPMs were low and would rise and before the thing ever got hot I had some serious gfx junk showing up on desktop.... not to mention the weird issues I started having a few months ago.
I just really need to save up for my next PC build. My current 2003 technology needed to be retired a few years ago anyways.... but I'm proud of that old comp for lasting as long as it did..

Good, I hope you get a good card.
Just coincidentally - day before yesterday, a computer I gave my nephew had a reset cmos, probably a BSOD.
So he thought it was a 1Ghz processor, and dismantled the guts before I found out anything was wrong. (which there wasn't) by the end of last night I figured out it was screwed..
Luckily I learned from the past to get a mobo w/ built in video(foxconn 6120 or something), so I pulled the 2nd stick of ram, installed a new AMD 5200+ X2 in it,(several the pins on the 4200+ were mysteriously pushed in...)
reset the cmos, plugged the monitor into the internal, and it booted right up.
Expensive mistake. 1 processor, 1 gfx card and a 512K 667 stick of ram later it booted up like nothing was wrong. >:C
I made him watch me rebuild it so that wouldn't happen again..

Thank is a fairly long time for a computer these days Qixx. I know mine have last that long or a little bit longer over here. Just do to good hard maintance with them. And Yeah for gaming purposes I do agree with you with games and high specs for the games you always have to have a good enough machine to play them. And from high end graphics as well.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.
