I don't think there were any threads on the new Ghostbusters game, so I thought I'd make one.
Not compatible with my PC, lol:
Minimum System Requirements:
* Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit
* Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 or AMD Athlon X2 3800+
* ATI Radeon X1800-series 512MB, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 512MB
* 2GB RAM
* 9GB free hard disk space
* DirectX 9.0c-compatible soundcard
* Keyboard, Mouse or Xbox 360 Gamepad
* Internet connection required for first-time authentication (connection not required after authentication)
Recommended System Requirements:
* Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista
* Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 or equivalent
* 4GB RAM
* ATI Radeon HD 4800 series, NVIDIA GTX 260 series or higher video card
Note: Dual core processors such as the Intel Pentium D805 are not supported, Video cards that have only 256MB of RAM are not supported.
From what I've heard, the PC version has NO multiplayer or DLC. Looks like I'll be waiting for Xbox Live to be entirely free or a massive PS3 price cut 'till I can play this.
I have no plans to purchase the Wii or DS versions, mainly because of the cartoony look that's WAY too common in Wii games. I might rent them, however.
PC version seems to be a direct port of 360 and PS3 versions, sans multiplayer and DLC.
My personal "Priority Chart" for versions of the game:
-PS3: Free online multiplayer
-360: Online multiplayer requires Live Gold, but same game as PS3 version overall
-PC: Same single player experience, but no multiplayer or DLC
-DS: Interesting gameplay, different from other versions, play as ghostbusters, drive ecto-1
-Wii: Cartoon style reminiscent of "The Real Ghostbusters", but same general storyline, motion controls sound fun, multiplayerabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I'm really angry about what Terminal Reality and Atari (Infogrames) have done with the PC version of the game.
- Some absurd system requirements, such as not supporting some dual core processors and requiring a 512MB video card
- No multiplayer at all
- No DLC, only the 360 and PS3 get it
- Online activation with limited installs
WTF is this sh@%?! Talk about deliberately sabotaging the PC version.
It's disgusting how poorly PC gamers get treated these days. The publisher whining about piracy is not a legitimate scapegoat. The Sims 3 has become the most pirated game ever, and yet it sold incredibly well. EA's best PC game launch ever. And I've seen 360 games pirated up the wazoo and back on the usual pirate sites.
Some of these publishers want to convert people from the PC. They want them to give up on PC gaming, by treating us like crap and making the console versions more appealing.
Well, FU Atari. No sale here. Not buying any version of Ghostbusters and, hell . . . not buying any games from a scummy publisher like you at all. You did the same thing with Chronicles of Riddick, with your ridiculous activation limit when every other publisher is giving up on it.
You deserve to go bankrupt.

I took a peek in Atari's Ghostbusters forum, and it seems the game's launch is a cluster@%#! of epic proportions across many of the platforms.
There are reports of problems on the 360 and PS3 versions, particularly on the PS3. The graphics on the PS3 version are subpar and there's some kind of bug preventing a bonus item from being used. So much for the days when a console game worked well right out of the box. Now with online connectivity, the publishers are leaning on that crutch heavily. Now console games are constantly receiving patches too.
There are also problems on the PC version, with some people missing the serial number in the manual, and the fact that if you try to install the game to anywhere but the default location on the C: drive it doesn't work.
Oh and, BTW . . . did you folks know that Sony has deliberately put the brakes on the 360 and PC versions outside of North America? There's a timed exclusive where the PS3 version will be the only one available for sale. You'll have to wait several months before you can buy the other two versions outside of North America. Hello piracy!
TRON.dll Wrote:It does look like a fun game on the consoles (namely the 360, I hear they effed up the textures big-time on PS3), might wanna give it a rental at least. |
I don't own a 360 or PS3 and have no intention of buying either. The original Xbox was my last console. I'll simply pass on Ghostbusters.
But if a publisher like Atari is scratching their head and wondering why the PC version ends up selling poorly and/or might be pirated up the wazoo, then they are truly clueless.

Jence forth to go open source with stuff like this when it comes out. You want to see how many buge are exterminated once someone who knows how ro program well to get them. Not to put what some of the major games are ding. But in cases like this is just too much. I know I am an old timer here on these things. But it is always bloated to the extreme. The one thing that thes gaming house should know how to do it and do it well is to do tight programming on these games. It will always be a problem in the gaming world. Give it a year or two get the major part out. and just patch it afterwards.
One of my friends who plays World of Warcrafts is playing the recent release and mentioned to me the last patch was something like close to a gig or two just for patching the game. I asked what the heck of a parge patch file for an update.

I'll probably rent the Wii version. They can't patch the Wii version of the game, so devs pretty much have to get the game right the first time.

The graphics and environment interaction aren't as good as I had hoped, seems like they're more comparable to that of an earlier launch title... but I bought it mainly to support the Ghostbusters franchise and the fact that the original actors are voice acting in it. And of course because I wanted to snap up some haunts. In general, I wanted to support my local Ghostbusters
It was a tough choice, considering the price tag games have these days... and that the gameplay time for single player wasn't as much as I'd prefer... but I'm hopeful.
If there are technical issues with the textures, that's unfortunate, but not a deal breaker for me. Hopefully they patch it. If the textures are just 'how they made them' -- that's unfortunate, too... but I'll live with it, I suppose.

Someone on the Ghostbusters forum is claiming that it was Sony who decreed that Multiplayer be axed from the PC version of the game. (Yes, the PC version had Multiplayer but it was removed at the last minute. There is evidence of this, with interviews and gameplay videos showing MP in action on the PC.)
So not only does Sony block the 360 and PC versions being sold outside North America for a while, to make it a timed PS3 exclusive . . . they have the Multiplayer removed from the PC version in an attempt to sell more copies of the PS3 version. (Since the PC is more popular outside of North America, and people might have waited for the PC version.)
That is low. Really low. And why can Sony do this, you may ask? Why do they have this kind of influence over the other versions of the game? Because they own the rights to the Ghostbusters films. What they say, goes. No film rights, no games. Sony is also distributing the game in the rest of the world. Atari is only distributing the game in North America.
If Atari or Sony didn't want to pay to run official servers, they at least could have given the players the option to run the servers themselves. Totally ripping out the Multiplayer is an incredibly scummy move.
EDIT: Atari and Threewave (who worked on the Multiplayer part) have responded to the complaints about the lack of MP in the PC version, and it's a pathetic response.
Multiplayer for the PC version of Ghostbusters is something that Threewave and Terminal Reality always wanted to do. However, our focus was on making the console version the best that they could be - an experience that allows multiple players to re-live and re-fight many of the themes from the movies. When we looked at the resources necessary to pull off multiplayer on the consoles and the PC, it became a question of what could we do and still be excellent in our execution. We couldn't do all versions with multiplayer simultaneously with the resources that we had available - there was simply too much to do. Something would have to suffer. Therefore, we kept our focus on making the console versions deliver on the promise of being an integral player on the Ghostbusters team. | http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/06/17/atari-and-threewave-comment-on-lack-of-multiplayer-in-pc-ghostbu/

I don't like the fact that sony/mgm/disney are in bed, we could have a problem in the Tron dept.............. Make a good game Disney. We need a petition.
(I think there's an indian shedding a tear over there.)
>>,
edit: the reason, I say that is because Sony bought MGM, MGM owns the home video rights to the ABC Motion Pictures library, under license from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

So all that wanting to appeal to a younger crowd crap and promotion on X-D is spooky to me. Do any of you people who watch X-D ever buy an awesome game advertised on it, out of curiosity?
If sony is loosing so much money, what does that tell me? Uh... just thinking outloud for the moment...

I bought the Wii version of the game. It's painful to play (my wrist hurts alot from playing it) and the graphics makes everything and everyone look totally funky. But other than that, it's a good version of the game.
I got it mainly for Multiplayer so me & another person (mainly my little brother) could play it. I have yet to beat it on 100%, so I'm still working on it and unlocking more stuff.
And because of the lack of Mutliplayer for the PC version... this looks like a Job for... LDSO!

Please let me know if LDSO or someone esle ever creates their own patch for the game.
I hope someone can fix the PC version's compatibility issues. I can't afford to get a new PC just to play the game.
I can upgrade my ram. But I can't really afford to buy yet another graphics card (already have a 8600GT Nvidia 256) so I'd have to get a new power unit and a new graphics card just so my Dell Shyt E520 can run the game.

Wow, that's crazy ShadowDragon! Sorry to hear. PS: Dead Space was a very well done game, by the way. Everything about that game seemed like a quality production. Even little things that they could've skimped on like the turret cannon mini-game, or running across an area with asteroids pelting down, were very well done. I more like it when games are less scripted, less linear and have more enemies, but it was definitely an interesting journey. When I saw the trailers, I didn't think this would be a good game, or one I would enjoy. Hm. I've got 1 gig of RAM, I think I'll have to upgrade up to 2 Gigs more.
Now it's just a matter of figuring out the right type of RAM stick for my Dell E520, I think I have a couple slots free to put 2 more ram sticks on the mother board.
Now my specs say I have a Duo Core and lists 1.86 Ghz twice;
so does that mean I'm getting 1. 86 and 1.86 put together? What my max CPU Ghz then? (I'm horrible at math >_abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Right click on my computer on the desktop or if it is hiding with in the start section of your taskbar. Click on properties of my computer. It should display up the general make of your e520 with the amount of ram and at which speeds the duo core is running at. Its like my precision 520 is running at 1.5 ghz. Depending o which versions of windows that you are using there. It might show the second core running a little bit slower. Or running at the same speed.
If I may add my two thoughs on this. Max it out on the ram. Memory is cheap these days. Even when I built a system these days or at least repair one. Maxing the memory will help since you know you'll never need to upgrade the memory again on that particular machine.
As for each cpu your running at 1.86 ghz each cpu core. Combine is the total but I would not hold it to the combined cores together. Even I thought of that a long time ago when having a dual processor were coming out.
But not anymore it's each ovre respective speed to it.

About multiplayer-- didn't we hear about something like this before with Lightcycles in Tron 2.0...?
(But they wound up adding it in anyway!)
I think what happened was that they didn't have enough time or some such-- it can't be entirely Sony's fault (granted, they have made embarrassingly poor decisions and still do so.)
I wouldn't be surprised if they made a Multiplayer a "downloadable" pack or something if enough people complained. *facepalms*
I really miss the days when games would be complete and nearly bug-free in the past. (Of course, some games weren't entirely bug free in the past either!)
