A lot better, I'd say. When I bring up the Task Manager and look at the Performance tab, I notice that a lot less memory is paged now (memory dumped to the hard disk swap file).
SuperFetch seems to be quite a bit less aggressive than in Vista. SuperFetch's job is to preload stuff in the background that it thinks you're going to use, so that when you do get around to loading it: it comes up almost instantly. It's a nice trick, making it seem like programs load faster. The problem in Vista was, the preloading was very noticeable. It gobbled up all the spare memory, and it caused your hard disk to grind away right after you reached the desktop.
In 7, it's still there but it's been toned down a lot. It waits longer before it starts preloading, and it seems to be smarter about it. It doesn't preload as much as Vista did. So that you don't end up dumping back out stuff from memory that you never ended up using, which became a waste of time to preload.
Also how well does XP mode do with accessories like scanners? I've got an old Visoneer scanner that still has life in it, but the company is no more and Vista's XP mode doesn't work with it at all. |
I can't say for sure, because I haven't used XP mode yet. But everything I've read, suggests that your scanner should work in XP mode.
I got badly burned by Vista. |
After a while, I got used to Vista. But once I tried 7 . . . that was it. Good riddance. I won't miss Vista.
