Nope. At least, not yet.

There's no way to get the older style taskbar or XP style Start menu in Win 7. The new "superbar" (that's what Microsoft calls it) is the only option.

I'm sure someone will find a way to bring back the older taskbar, for those who want it. But I don't know why anyone would want to.

I'll admit I was skeptical of the new taskbar when I first saw it. But once you've used it, you probably won't want to go back to the old one.

Well I know it's a small and rather strange reason for not doing it, but if someone can get the Vista toolbar at the bttom I'll probably download it

I like the new look. I did see a screen shot about a year ago that also was in a form close to KDE or Gnome. Kinda a Linux look for Windows 7 but I don't know if those were real or not.

I skipped Vista and now with all the talk of Win7, I'm really interested in this OS. One main feature I like is XP mode (VM/VW environments) so I can still play my games and use my XP exclusive apps. I just hope that the VM is reliable and not a gimmick.

My question is: Does Windows 7 have 'nag-ware'? By that I mean, are there pop-ups from Windows that freaks out when you actually use your computer like in Vista? I so hated that.

Tronfaq the reason is somple. My hardware is out of date for windows 7 in order to use it. And there is an alternate route than sticking with windows only and that is with the linux community and based with the experience that I have already with Linux and the unix environment. For me at a personal experience provides more benefits than what windows 7 has to offer than switching the taskbar chaged. With 350+ variety of linux flavors out and diffferent GUIS in linux to use. It is just the matter of which one you want to have on a computer. Windows doen't have all the different guis out there like Linux has as for it's own.

Plus I have already seen it running on a demo computer at a local shop and it did not impress me because of the change. Also the other thing as well for going the linux way the hardware requitements is a lot less than what Windows demand for it's basic set up. Minimum requirements for ubuntu 9.04 is 256 megs of ram and 4 gigs of hard disk space with all features and applications installed for it already. Windows Vista and windows 7 requires at least 1 gig of ram and about 10 gigs of ram just for the operating system alone. And no other applications.

Both my laptop and desktops are running with about a gig or two of ram and perform marvelously without even swapping to the drive with all the applications installed. It makes a big difference even performance wise.

I did ask, and got you to explain why you didn't like the new taskbar (because you'd seen it demoed in person). Anyway, no worries. It's all good.

Vista's UAC drove everybody up the wall, including me, with its constant nagging. In 7, there's a now a slider you can adjust to further reduce or even turn off the nags. You could turn off the nagging in Vista as well, but there was no slider. UAC was either on or off. Either it nagged you constantly, or it wouldn't nag you at all. Win 7 lets you change it so that you only get nagged when it's something really important.

Thats good to hear. On Vista, it would nag you for turning it off but it was only on boot up that I seen it.. but left that stink'n red icon in the task bar...

Yeah, I was aware about the processor specs but didn't know about no 3D gfx emu. One thing good about it is that someone may make a 3Dfx and/or Nvidia/ATI emulation for those cards... but you did mention that games seem to run better in 7 so thats good news too.
