just to clarify

i dont hate manga

in fact i finally watched Appleseed: Ex-Machina last night. it was awful. absolutely nothing new visually - basically the first (2004) one (which was an awesome experience) all over again but with a senseless script and an awful soundtrack - no boom boom satellites :[ about midway through i just wanted it to be over. and the ending just came out of nowhere all the sudden they are in a big floating city fighting swarms of flying "drones" with action pretty much ripped from matrix:revolutions. the medusa chick at the end is cool so long as you can forget she's a blatant mishmash of the borg queen and a matrix sentinel (i cant even tell you her name because i think they only said it once - no build up or suspense or anything just all of the sudden they figure out the mystery and are on a ship fighting this crazy thing) and then the "fight" was such an anti-epic letdown. glad i didnt buy it. i will probably enjoy tossing it down the return chute at blockbuster more than i did watching it.

Prepare for a wall of text.

I like to watch Anime every once in a while, but the past three years every series I've seen pop up on TV is either an already milked series or an unoriginal story(or rippoff) already found in some other Japanese animated show/film/comic.

What's worse for those of us that have T.V. coming from the U.S.A., the channels that do show anime tends to only translate the same fruity genre and style over and over again. I'd like to see the networks import a show or movie that doesn't have the big eye, wide mouthed, and flat style(not to mention story). Something that is actually different looking and has a complete storyline would be a great refreshment. Even one of my friends that's Japanese (she teaches English to Japanese students) hates anime because of the over milked style. I'd just wish networks would show something different.

One more thing I would like to rant on about. It really gets my nerves when my friends ask me to draw them anything anima styled. When ever they see artists working they have to tweak out and ask people to draw in anima style. Also, I hate it when people in art classes copy images from an anime series, say it's orginal/completly their own, and post it as their gallery display.

Every student show, 70% of all the work shown is a copy of an image from an anime show I've already seen.

On an average(every show): six inuashas, four sailor moons, three dragon ball z's, two narutos, one gundum, plus an assortmant of other anime I've seen before. Each from a different student. The other 30% is from the elderly students(retirees) and pottery. Don't get me wrong though. I've seen elderly students copy anime too.

Rant rant rant >

Totally agree with ya, Cyberwolen. I recently visited an art college and half of the artwork that was displayed was anime and obviously copied off other shows.

The only anime I that I even remotely liked was Ghost in the Shell, because of that cyberpunk style that's similar to Tron.

I saw a bit of the tv show on Adult Swim and figured that I wouldn't mind watching the movie. BIG MISTAKE.

That movie was the most violent and perverted animated movie I have ever seen. While I thought the fight with Major verses the mecha-tank thing was good, I didn't like the fact that she had to get naked in order to defeat it. I'm not gay or anything, but I'm Christian and my conscience tells me I shouldn't be watching this.

lol you know that was based on the books by Masamune Shirow - who also created Appleseed! i've never watched Ghost in the Shell but i heard about it - and i doubt its worse than Legend of the Overfiend - i suggest you avoid even the "tamed down" u.s. release of that.

Ive been an Appleseed fan since i was 12 - even used to rip off Appleseed art in high school art classes lol - I actually didnt check out any of his famed art books until recently and i was disappointed - lot of overly sexual female illustrations that cross the line of being able to be appreciated as art imo - and my line can go pretty far lol. also big manga eyes are just creepy to me

now Lone Wolf and Cub - id like to see that animated - i never saw the movie.

I've read some of the begining of Lone Wolf and Cub. It would probably make a good animated show. Maybe some Japanese animators can make more novel based shows. At least they might get their watchers intrested in reading the books.
