I thought that was the movie, my bad. So... I went to rent it, and got revolutions instead, obviously that one is still in theaters. It looks great so far. pretty scary looking beasts. I've yet to hear songs thus far, just orchestration..

yeah the movie slays - go see it - but none of those songs are in the actual film. I guess its a little misleading that they call it the "original motion picture soundtrack" - shouldn't it say "music inspired by..." ? but whatever, still a great pickup. I havent heard the "soundtracks" for the other two films but im curious now - might go seek when i get paid.

and speaking of awesome soundtracks:

NRG FTW!!!!

Pink Floyd is awesome, "Welcome to the Machine" and "On the Run" are great songs and make me think of TRON because of all of the epic synth work.

Pink Floyd is one of my favs. I was recently introduced to thier "Pulse" DVD. This is a gem of a concert they do live, taking only one half time break. I couldn't believe my eyes.

laser lights on low(pt. 1)(pt. 2) I skip to 3:30
laser lights on lowmediumhigh(It's embarrassing - these youtube videos are such low quality, if you don't own this DVD you better think of getting it. Well worth it.

This was the most beautiful thing I've seen or heard on stage. If you guys know of a better one, plz post it up! But wait, it's from 1994! (That must have cost a fortune.)

five build points for who remembers the song and time of the Dr. Who reference.

The youtube videos are such low quality you can't see the detail of those lights, I highly recommend getting this one.

^ haha yeah Jawbreaker!!

yeah i havent seen Seventh Son in so long - its like that's the only one that hasnt been reissued for some reason. i found it two weeks ago in the "used" section at an fye "superstore". im still jamming this. it was the first one to come out after i got into them - before that i just had cassette dubs of Somewhere in Time and Powerslave - so Seventh Son was an epic event for me...and my older metalhead friends dont even really know about it - it was the one they all ignored :O

Hey Achilles,

I just came across this thread, and I think you and I must have been drinking from the same water fountain growing up. Your tastes are as broad as mine, but I'm sure there are a few different things you could introduce me to (and vice versa).

First off, who in the hell still talks about Voivod? I almost fell down when I saw you bring them up. Man, I have loved their cover of Astronomy Domine since the first time I heard it. I still listen to it this day. I liked them because they were too prog for the thrash guys, and too thrash for the prog guys...no one knew what to think of them.

I'm also a proud Iron Maiden fan that doesn't care how dated people think their music is...it still kicks ass! Iron Maiden is one of my favorite things to listen to when playing online Battlefield 1942...especially the songs "The Trooper" and "Run for the Hills".

That Transformer Movie soundtrack is a favorite of mine also. A lot of it sounded like the kind of synthesized compositions that Frank Zappa was doing in the late 70's and early 80's. My son watches that movie every now and then, and when it's on I can't focus on anything else but analyzing what's going on in the music. It's a pretty complex collection of music, especially for a kid's movie. My favorite movie soundtrack of all time is for George Romero's "Day Of The Dead" (the 1985 version). It was written by John Harrison on a Prophet 5 synth and still holds up to this day. I recommend checking it out, if you can find a copy. I lucked out and found one for fifteen bucks, factory sealed and everything.

Shameless Plug: I have a few musical projects of my own, my latest one being a blend of jazz and rock fused with a punk attitude. Here's a link to the site: www.myspace.com/dsnola

I think I've rambled on enough. I just had to give you a thumbs up on all of your recommendations and send a transmission to the musical universe that you live in...letting you know that you are not alone.

^ i know some thrash purists would have issues with me but nothingface was my introduction to them - and those three are what voivod is to me. dennis d'amour (RIP) influenced me so much as a musician with these albums.

but yeah man thanks for the transmission. i checked out some of your stuff - really impessive. tell me you have the new Cynic...!!

Yeah, Nothingface is their classic in my book. I remember the video being so cool, and it made the song even creepier with all of the guys playing on those revolving platforms. I actually prefer their version to the original song, no matter how blasphemous that may be to Pink Floyd fans everywhere (which I consider myself to be one of the biggest).

I don't have the new Cynic, but I remember when they first came out. They were just what I was looking for at the time, but because my tastes have changed over the years, I haven't followed them as closely as I used to. I'm more into Dillinger Escape Plan and Soilent Green these days when it comes to intense metallic flavors.

Currently, I have been listening to Faith No More's album Angel Dust, as well as a "Best Of" compilation of Pantera MP3's that I put together for working out at the gym. Phil Anselmo's voice can push you more than any drill sergeant on the planet.

depends - lot of folks into heavier stuff who dug the first one dont like the new one as much - because its not as heavy - but its good for what it is i think. jazz-fusion is kind of the trend right now in metal so they are touring now with meshuggah and the faceless - about to tour with dragonforce allegedly

negative on amorphis - havent tried them yet

Avi Wrote:Soilent Green

ha! when i saw you were from nola i almost mentioned them. awesome band! ive had sewn mouth secrets forever - and never realized it was brian patton from EHG on guitars until i finally got to see them last year

and this was a win:
