I got a game, post a picture of an arcade or even a console controller and see if anyone can guess either the game or console it went on. Even a part of the controller - if it is unique enough - could be shown. I imagine this could be reaally difficult, but I'm sure there's a few that we can get. Maybe a helper would be a piece of the surrounding console too.
Here's a start (no peeking at image info like names or URLs etc...)

Defender comes to mind easily for this one or Tapper/root beer game comes to mind as well for this kind of joystick as well.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

Wow you guys are good, stargate & defender, don't remember the game tapper though. I'll won't pay up now, but I'll put "tron.dll" in my will. Then you, Microsoft, and Disney can fight over it hehehe
There's no duplicating either of those games on any console or computer, without this short joystick, it's just not even close. In my dream MAME cabinet it WILL have one of these.

That looks like a spinner-- I'm not sure how many machines have spinners.
I know that Tron has a spinner and that's gotta be true for at least Pong games and variants... and maybe Lunar Lander?on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineorder abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

It isn't a Tron spinner, but this is
I guess it's not much different. Lunar lander had something a bit different. |

Ahh, that takes me back.
I don't know... Tempest or Gyruss?? Heck, I've even seen ones like that used on Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off Road... Of course, you have to put a pulse multiplier in.
Anyway, I get confused about old controllers because my first job (and again at a later job) was in an R&D division of a video arcade factory, and we used to put all kinds of controllers on all kinds of games and make some games work with controllers they were never intended to work with.
Here's the only controller I have left now... Any guesses as to what it came from?
.. I had to literally dig this out of my shed. All my others are gone... Missile command ball controllers, 4 and 8 way joysticks.... I even got rid of all my old tabletop (cocktail) machines and once had an original space invaders box which I gave away more than a decade ago during a clean up...
The last was an obscure japanese game which I retrofitted with galaxians and sold to a mate for $50 a couple of years ago. It only had a digital 15KHz RGB monitor in it though, so some of the "colors" didn't show up unless they were brighter than the cutoff, so it looked kind of weird.
The biggest game I ever worked on? It was a 3D ( Gimballed ) movement machine that was tied into an "After Burner".... You could go completely upside down in it, which was weird, because you couldn't fly the game upside down - and you were just held in by a seatbelt inside of a metal harness.
If I had a chance to go back and save one machine, what would it be? Tron? No. Actually, the game that impressed me most was the vector graphics version of Star Wars...
Maybe even a battlezone...
The Vector games were always my favourites.

I haven't read any of the other posts, but I'm guessing it's Defender. Defender was a side-scroller with a joystick that only allowed up and down movement - the buttons controlled the thrust (left/right) movement. A very difficult game to master, but very fun as well.

Would these be Pong controllers?
Possibly Warlords??
Cold or warm? That's not a game title, I'm just asking if I was close.

I swear I've played a game with this one before. I remember the two thumb-buttons on the grip, but I can't remember what they did or what the game was. I'm guessing it was a flying game or maybe gun-slinging game? No solid ideas.

Tempest it is! Wasn't Gyruss a left/right stick?
Ya I liked the vector graphics too. Hard to duplicate the razor sharp & bright displays.
I'm not sure what your joystick is though.

I'm guessing PacMan - it looks like a classic 4-way.
I think I saw those on Rally-X also.
I'm still suprised so many games required 4-way's.
(a 4-way has a mask that only allows up,down, left or right... If you try to go on a diagonal, you can't push the joystick far enough into the corner and the microswitches disengage).
A hint on my last one...
Hint1. "Enemy fleet in the pacific." - Dialogue from the game.

Possibly Pong, I was thinking as well Tempest somewhere within this thread. Those are the only two that would used this kind of spinner. Disk of Tron and Tron have a different design button on top that made it unique compared to these two spinners here.

I'm guessing Ms. Pac Man. Spent a lot of time on a table top version of that one at a pizza place with a friend back in the early 80's. Looks like it could be it.
