I guess now is a good time to bring up Wine.. So here's a toast... lol..
I got Wine to work yesterday. I installed MDk2 (Win98 version) and it works perfect. No crashes or anything. GFX looks as good as always and the sound is still rock'n.
So, I installed the 'Windows' version of 'Metal Gear Solid' and it wouldn't run. It installed fine, but just would run regardless what settings I have it on... so I'll be looking forward to it's next release.
Oh... BTW... Do you know if Wine performs 3Dfx-glide emulation?

After running it with the one gig of ram the guy asked what OS it was. And showed it to him in both French and in English. Just to prove and to show that he could install the language packs for it and still use the same CD for it. Just when you log into the sytem you can tell i which language you want to be showing on the screen. Which is kind of cool. I had something like five or six different language packs installed on mine. And just to give him an idea it was not just limited to just one language. He thought that was cool.

I still love freaking out my friends when they set at my computer for the first time.... pausing for a second... and then.... they say.. "Whats did you do to your Windows?". lol...
I need to try out wine tonight.. still haven't done tested it out but I've been too busy learning of Ubuntu's other features.. |

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

I'm getting desktop crazy on my other computer. I installed Kubuntu, and I'm going to add Enlightenment Windows Manager and Awesome Windows Manager just for giggles.
I figured that since it's my 'screw around' computer, I'll just screw around with it for a bit...

Thats totally awsome qizz. I always wonder why linux is not as popular as windows. Take a look at all the screen shots you been taking and tried out on it. Man I tell ya windows should be afraid very much afraid. What you can do in linux with KDE, Gnome, XCFE, Enlightnemnet, studio ubuntu. Makes you wonder why ubuntu is so great eh. ;D

Well.. those last two aren't mine.. but I'll try to have something up when I figure this stuff out..
Enlightenment starts out barebone... I installed it alongside Kubuntu and the apps it uses are accessed via KDE's installed stuff... if I ran it alongside GNOME, then it would use them as well...
Awesome WM is very interesting but what I need is just a bare bones Linux with that installed. I couldn't figure out how to use it so I uninstalled it. I'll try again some other day..
lots of cool stuff to choose from in the Linux world. |

I remember I had installed one game on linux that was very similar to Quake 3 arena. But for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it. It is something arena. And it is fantastic and looks like quake 3. I had installed it a while ago and worked well on my laptop that was running Radeon video card with 16 megs of ram on it. It worked smoothly as well. Considering I am one a PIV 1.6ghz and 1 gig of ram. Looks like my precision 530 is held till next weekend. I am hoping to get that machine so I can try and use ubuntu on it with all the bells and whistles of graphics enabled. To see what it loks like. ANd then with vista ultimate to take a look at it with aero on it as well. To see the difference between the two.

Ok... so I've been using Xubuntu on my other computer and for some odd reason, it's running slower than Ubuntu when I had that installed... but, it's not bad. I'm using it mainly as my information computer. By that, I'm using it to update me on local weather reports (omg I love the software for this), news reports.... I'm also using it as my "download and transfer" computer.
So I guess you can say that I'm familiar with all three forms of Ubuntu.

The language packs for Ubuntu is rather impressive. Many many languages can be selected on disc before installing but must be well written since their file size seems to be small.
Is it possible to trick servers in believing that I'm in another country? There are a few sites in Europe that won't allow access to users in the States. I tried using a fake IP but couldn't configure it properly. It's not that I have an agenda or anything, but just would like to learn how to go around certain obstacles like that.
