Ok, I think my crappy PC finally died on me..
I put the computer into standby. Normally, when I take it out of standby by moving the mouse, it goes back to the Windows XP user login screen without a problem.
That didn't happen this time.
This time, the computer sounded like it was starting up, not coming out of sleep mode. It showed the HP logo (it's an HP computer). Then, in DOS:
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
What the #$!@ happened. Has the time come to hold a funeral for this computer and all of the data on it? Or is there a simple way to do this.
Please don't tell me it just reformatted itself....

Well.. Some other techs disagree with me, but I believe that sleep mode (which is more like comma mode) can cause major problems in the long run to system devices and sometimes the power supply (I've experienced myself) so I always disable this feature for monitors and everything else for the computer.
To anyone that has a flat panel, it's usually best to just turn off your flat panel anyways since it doesn't use that much energy to turn back on... and can extend the life time of the LCD monitor.
OK.. back to what we are talking about.
Are you able to get into safe mode? (pressing F8 after POST should give you the list of options, one being safe mode).
[EDIT] Do you have a floppy disk in one of your dirves?

You might have a bad hard drive (or other hardware problem) or the files on the hard drive could be so corrupted you can't boot.
Try using the second repair choice on the XP CD.

I hope I got the right link... lol.. I'll check it after I post this.
[EDIT] But you'll need a full copy of XP...

Problem with that is that was a problem someone was having with a 6 week old PC. My computer is 10 years old. I assume there's a difference.

WOW... 10 years old? You need an upgrade... [EDIT] By upgrade I mean a new computer.. :P
However, if you are using XP then it doesn't really matter. But being that your computer is as old as it is, you may have bad sectors on your hard drive. This happens a lot and that just means that your HD is losing it's magnetism and it's spreading.
Is the computer that you are on now, yours?

I'm using my Nintendo Wii's web browser.
Second time I owe thanks to Nintendo. Ever wonder how I found out about the peanut butter contamination? The Wii's News Channel. Turned on the local news about a week later. They were reporting the contamination as "Late Breaking News".where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I tip my hat to Nintendo... Here I'm such a PC exclusive guy so I miss out on the features of consoles.
If I was in your position (I'd build a new computer but if you dont' know how to do that), I'd see what deals I can get locally around town for a new computer. It all comes down to what you use your computer for. If you just use it to get online and use some office stuff like a word processor or saving pictures and stuff... then you can find a decent one for about $300+ at Wal-Mart or somewhere.
This is how I am. I'm the type that saves up money for a few months and try to get around $3k at the least (mainly because I use my computer for everything from playing games to 3D-CAD programs to video editing, music recording, photo editing, etc..). Then I buy components from directron.com or somewhere like that and build my computer from scrach (which isn't as hard as it sounds)....
... but keep in mind that I'm a computer enthusiast and I got crazy over stuff like this..
If your monitor, keyboard, and mouse are in good shape.. look for a local retailer that will sell you just the tower. You might be able to save a hundred or two.
Alas, without the XP disk, there really isn't much (if anything) we can do.. and even at that I can't guarantee that I could get you up and running..

But... you may want to keep an eye on this thread because there are some other techs on here that might know some tricks around this.

Thank you very much. Any idea if it's possible to retreive anything from the hard drive?
If not, then crap. I'm gonna have to pray to God that the GameMaker Company will give me a replacement code for GameMaker 7. abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

There still is hope...
Save your hard drive. You can plug it into another IDE port of another computer and try to get everything you want off of it (if it doesn't have too many bad sectors)...
Or...
You can spend some money on a USB HD bay and plug it in that way... but the other way is cheaper..
... and why is the sector so slow tonight?

I'm sorry that I couldn't help though...
Oh.. BTW... I did play your demo on yoyogames and I really like it...
I'm currently starting a game project using Multi Media Fusion 2 (which is a little like Game Maker 7). My first game isn't going to be Tron related but I really would love to make a Tron game if I can do something nifty with what I'm working on now... I hope to have something done by this winter.. |

Well.. it's not really hard to do. If you got your hands on a USB hard drive adapter, it's like sticking in a USB flash drive or SD card.. but it's a hard drive instead.
I might be able to help you out with something though.. check your PM's...

Thanks, check your PM.
I think I may have found out another possible cause. Considering that the exhaust fan is broken, the computer can natrually get pretty hot. Maybe something in there melted?
