Fun fact, Troy was his first movie.

Which is funny, because Troy is easily a misspelling of Tron, lol.

I saw TRON when I was 8. I liked it then for the cutting edge Special FX (of that time) and the imagination of playing INSIDE of a computer. As I aged, I thought more of the philosophies of the story.

Take the Transformers movie. My kids liked the robot fights just like I did at their age. I liked the homage paid to the original series. We all liked the campy jokes. I did NOT like the XM Satellite product placement with Bumblebee. That was a bit *too* obvious.

TR2N can be developed for all ages, and with the proper script and editing, it will be. I'm not too worried... just slightly concerned it'll be a 2 hour Dell commercial or something.

I don't remember them saying XM Satellite Radio specifically..

I thought the way they made him talk though was pretty creative, though.

Breaking news from Joystiq:

Rumor suggests that Propaganda Games may be behind the new TR2N video game. This comes after Propaganda Games announced that they had dropped Turok 2.

Way to ruin my night TRON.dll

I have Turok for the PS3 (made by Propaganda) and it was pretty much a waste of my time. I trudged on through a lot of boredom and frustrating & annoying gameplay, and poor character modeling/art to finally beat it a short time ago. If Propaganda is behind TR2N, all of my glowing circuitry just burned out.

I wish Monolith was doing TR2N. I'd have much more faith and excitement, knowing they did a nice job with Tron 2.0 and that they maybe learned some lessons there that would only make a TR2N game 'that much better.'

I liked Turok for the N64. I read Turok for the PS3 was supposed to be reminiscent to the N64 version, and it was nowhere close. Propagnda making a new Turok 2 wouldn't excite me in the least; unless they truly learned some things with their last Turok such as:
* How to draw faces and make characters that don't look like they're all on steroids, born from the same mother
* How to make a non-linear game
* How to give a sense of adventure and inspire exploration in a game, and have that rewarded (like old Turoks)
* How to make characters that speak more than two or three lines over and over again when you have an entire blu-ray disc of space available
* How to not jump on the bandwagon where every game nowadays needs to have a military squad accompany you or annoying sidekick that follows or leads you everywhere (don't want my hand held, thanks)
* How to not have cheesy weapon effects
* How to have stealth that actually works
* How to have more variety in enemies and gameplay mechanics
* How to involve water and swimming, like N64 Turok
* How to have more characters than just futuristic soldiers, and more prehistoric creatures than raptors, T-rexes and big mosquitos
* How to bring back the N64 Turok feel, atmosphere and vibe

Okay, I could go on. Sorry. Hope I don't derail the thread by talking about Turok! Since Propaganda made Turok, I don't think this is entirely a derailment; just partial derailment I kinda wish I didn't get rid of my N64. I'd like to play Turok again.

Back to TR2N.

I was 5. Theatre in the plaza, Santa Fe, NM.

another lasting movie experience from then, I remember watching "V" and umm, not cool for a 6 yo. I figured out I must not trust anyone, or thier face may peel off.. dunno why that stuck..

Take the Transformers movie. My kids liked the robot fights just like I did at their age.

..I was so into my uncles monster truck, work, and neighbors mechanic abilities, and coincidentally waiting for a fight, I never got a chance to get into the robot/action type things, although older friends did. Tho to me, that was when everyone had a lowrider, or a rod.. ah.... those were the days.

Meaningless.

Disney Interactive Media Group had been laid off?

"Disney Interactive Studios, which has five internal game development studios around the world, self publishes and distributes a broad portfolio of multi-platform video games, mobile games and interactive entertainment worldwide. "

pfffhhhtt. and they are the backbone of disney too.

There weren't a lot of games that I liked for the N64, but I really enjoyed the ones I did end up liking, like Turok, Goldeneye and a few others.order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

So his being cast is all your doing, then!

Traahn Wrote:I didn't forget, but considering Tron came out in '82 and that set of viewers is now much older, I just would personally like that factor to be recognized... to a good extent. Not saying I want or need an R rating, but something sophisticated enough to hold my interest and challenge me, without seeming too obviously "kid oriented." It's a hard one to explain, I guess.
Oh, for sure . . . I feel exactly the same way. I'm secretly hoping for a PG-13, rather than a PG or G, myself. (Tron was rated PG.)

lurkinghorror Wrote:I don't really agree with that. Yes, adults generally walked away from that film shaking their heads. But I think that had a bit more to do with the generation gap and how it applies to computers, than the actual content of the film.
It definitely had a lot to do with the generation gap, yes.

But I think it also had to do with the stigma attached to Disney at the time. That all of Disney's films released at that point, were widely considered to be strictly children's fare. Which may have caused people to skip it, or be harsh on it even when they did see it.

An unfair prejudice, to be sure. But I believe it still happened. Also, some film reviewers seemed to have an agenda against the film, which didn't help. Which probably brings us back to the generation gap, again.

So I guess what I'm saying is, I agree with you to a certain extent. But I'm thinking it was more a perception of what the film was about, rather than the film itself, that drove a large number of adults away. Even for those who actually watched the film. They had pre-conceived notions about it, that colored their perception of it to start with.

Which is a problem that children didn't have. The film was "aimed" at them, in the sense that they were willing to accept it for what it was. The film had a spirit of eagerness and enthusiasm about it, that children could completely resonate with.

Did I just make any sense? Sorry, it's late and I'm having difficulty finding the right words.

I don't normally make more than one post in a row, if I can help it. But since I'm completely switching gears here, I made this a separate post.

I completely agree. I wish Disney would bring Monolith back for the next Tron game. It was first reported that Disney was "talking to developers", which meant they were looking for someone to do it. But now we're hearing that Propaganda (aka division of Disney Interactive) might just be doing it, after all.

Monolith really nailed the Tron atmosphere in Tron 2.0. I have very few complaints about the single player portion of the game.

Multiplayer could have been better. But I imagine that's where Monolith could use the lessons they learned from later experience, to make improvements there.

I have no faith in Propaganda to make a good Tron game, based on what I've heard about Turok.

I saw a post on Shacknews that made me laugh, and I want to paraphrase it here. Wouldn't it be something, if a game based on someone going inside the computer, doesn't get released for the computer?

If the next Tron game is console only, then they can definitely count me out.

And now I'm making a third post, because I have some news.

Turns out that Jeff Bridges has visited Vancouver, to have himself scanned. They're scanning his face so it can be de-aged and used on CLU.

http://io9.com/5145800/how-tron-20-will-clone-the-young-jeff-bridges
Some production on the film is definitely underway, even if they aren't filming yet.

Also, the budget for the sequel has apparently now ballooned to $300 million? Holy smokes! That would make it one hell of an extravaganza, if true. And Disney has set up offices in Vancouver.

http://www.vancouversun.com/story_print.html?id=1237055
Actually, you may not want to click the link (you have to scroll down past something kind of unpleasant to find the relevant news), so I'll just quote the info here.

Tron redux

Vancouver post-production units are salivating at the prospects presented by the Disney remake of Tron, which carries a whopping $300 million budget and opportunities aplenty for effects and digital polish.

The 1982 version of the film starring Jeff Bridges blazed new trails in computer graphics and you can bet Tron 2.0 will push much further down the pixel path.

Garrett Hedlund (Eragon, Troy) and Olivia Wilde (House, The OC) have been cast in lead roles. Bridges is also reportedly appearing in the new film along with original Tron alumnus Bruce Boxleitner.

Disney has set up offices in town and shooting should get underway this spring.
Thanks to annemiek for this second tip, if you're out there reading this.

I'd totally be an extra in the movie, I'd just stand around and look pretty!

...though, it'd be hilarious if I were to tell work, "Can I have a week worth of vacation 'cause I need to nerd out and be an extra in Tr2n."

I can only dream... (and that was an actual dream. Sigh.)

My apologies for making a rude comment on a few opinions expressed a couple of pages back.. The only analogy I have, since I haven't watched any of the films from which the new cast played a role... is when you watch a movie, and your friend is sitting there critisizing it instead of watching it.. So, if it seemed offensive, I don't want to give that impression.

Man, if the new budget really is 300M - wow, that's gonna be good!

Maybe I should try to get cast as an extra too, I live right next door. lol.
