Guitar Hero World Tour

on Thursday, May, 29, 2008 12:33 AM
Finally announced today!

Okay, so it's a complete ripoff of rockband, but I personally think the drums look awesome. They have 3 drum pads, 2 cymbal pads and a kickpedal. I'll come with that, (i think) one guitar controller, and a mic.

But what really interests me about it is the MUSIC STUDIO mode. What's that? Not much, it just lets you make your OWN SONGS with the notes in a Mario Paint Composer-esque style. For example, when doing the guitar, you play what note you want, and you can apply different notes to single frets or chords. You do the same for Rythym/Bass (Yes, you can choose!), and I think you can choose different sounds for each pad on the drums controller. I'm going to assume that you sing the song into the mic, and it'll detect pitch. I'm not sure how you get the lyrics in there, though. Then, you can upload your song to Activision's server for others to download (I'm hoping) for free! It also seems like when you're recording the song, you can record each track seperately, and it seems like you can pause while recording to change which notes are on what frets. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like you can add other special instruments/sound effects (i.e. Synthesizers, etc.).

You know what me and everyone else here and over at LDSO are thinkin'......

Theme from TRON - Heavy Metal Remix

Hopefully, the editor will be as open as I hope*. This is my custom song setlist (which I will edit more songs into just for the heck of it ):

REGULAR SONGS:

Theme from TRON - Heavy Metal Remix
Super Mario Brothers Theme
Theme from Banjo Kazooie - DONE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KckA1vGfUwGreen Hill Zone (from Sonic the Hedgehog)
Theme from Super Smash Bros. Brawl
YYZ - Rush
Overeture to 2001: A Space Odyssey
Theme from Star Wars
Theme from E.T.
Sonic Boom (from Sonic the Hedgehog CD)
The Mario Kart theme (lol)
Spiderman Theme
Spongebob Squarepants theme song - Deathmetal remix (lolololol)
Wii Sports Theme (lolz)
Pac Man Fever
Geometry Wars Theme
Castle (from Super Mario Brothers 1)
James Bond Theme
Indiana Jones Theme
Tetris Theme "A"
Mr. Roboto
Rock Lobster
Rock Lobster (Peter Griffen ver.)
Airship (From Super Mario Brothers 3)
Garth's Drum Solo
Chariots of Fire
Blade Runner End Credits - IN DEVELOPMENT
GUITAR BATTLES:

Guitar Battle Vs. TRON.dll (me)
Guitar Battle Vs. Mozart
Guitar Battle Vs. Jonas Sisters

That's what my "Dream Setlist" is. How 'bout you all?

This game is supposed to come out this fall for XBOX 360, Wii, PS2, and PS3, and I'm sure you'll be able to choose you're character in each version unlike PS2 and Wii Rockband. I'd say it's a safe bet to say each version will have online MP except for PS2.

Actually, this looks like it may be a better option than Rockband, with the song editor and user created DLC.

So what are your Dream Setlists?
Come on Fall, BRING IT ON!

RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 26, 2008. That day shall be epic.

*UPDATE: The editor is extremely open, and it allows you to use the guitar as a synthesizer keyboard. There's also an iTunes-esque remixing program on the game called GH Mix. There's also plans to allow users to download their songs onto their computer and edit them using a PC version of GH Mix. Unfortunately, the music studio has a 3 minute/1200 note limit for guitars (it's 1000 notes for drums).

For some wild reason unknown to me, I immediately thought how awesome it would soud to hear the Legend of Zelda theme or a medley of Zelda songs blended together into one song played with this... I can hear it my head now and it's kickass!
I can't think of anything other that that of the top of my head but I'm sure I'll think of something!

Oh god, I just looked over at Guitar Hero.com's forums and I think I saw about 10-15 topics that had titles along the lines of:

Guitar Hero World Tour will suck!

These people are evidently all upset because Guitar Hero is becoming a Rock Band copy, and these people hate Rock Band because they're Guitar Hero fanboys.

Have you ever played Flash Hero, Cam? It's a flash version of Guitar Hero without star power or whammy bar. It does have some pretty good songs on it, tho, among those is the temple theme for the Zelda stage in Super Smash Brothers Melee. Check it out! I know it's on newgrounds, but if that's (unlikely) too extreme for your computer, like it is for mine...

Hehe, couldn't resist bashing my PC again, lol.

K, I'll check it out. But I meant the original, everyone-knows-it orignal theme, or maybe like a blend of all the songs from A Link to the Past... rockin! lol.

Wikipedia had better be right here:

Wikipedia said:Four bands have been confirmed for the game from the Game Informer preview: Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park, and Sublime. IGN's preview reported that Sublime's "Santeria", Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell", and the Foo Fighter's "Everlong" were featured in the game. The Game Informer preview also suggests that Dream Theater may be included. Neversoft claims that there will be more songs on disk than any other Guitar Hero game, and that all songs included in Guitar Hero World Tour will be master recordings. A leak from a market research firm also mentioned that the game would feature Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, and Muse.

I'd just like to point out a few things here:

more songs on disk than any other Guitar Hero game

More than 85, all Master Recordings. Heck yes.

Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell"

Yes.

Also:

Wikipedia also said:Also, when Chris Vance was asked if the Aerosmith song “I Don't Want to Miss a Thing” would be in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, he confirmed that it “will not be one of the songs that’s in the game” but gave a hint that we could expect it in Guitar Hero: World Tour by saying “That song would be much more suited to a full band game if anything”.

Any Rock Band-esque game with Aerosmith is win in my book.

Also, the Guitar controller that comes with the game will have a touch sensitive neck that will be located below the five fret buttons.

Wikipedia also said:RedOctane is developing a new guitar controller for the game; the unit features a touchpad just below the normal five fret buttons along the neck of the guitar. According to IGN, this allows the player to alter the tone of sustained notes as well as simply tapping to play notes similar to mimicking slapping a bass. The touchpad can also be used for sustains and staccato notes in the music studio feature. Older Guitar Hero guitar controllers will still work with World Tour.

Also, the drums will react to how hard you hit them:

Wikipedia also said:Game Informer's preview revealed that a six-piece drum controller is being developed for the game, with two cymbal pads, a snare, two toms, and a bass drum pedal. The drum kit was designed with help from John Devacka, who is credited with creating the first music game, MTV Drumscape, and who developed key patents used for most modern music games that are now owned by Activision. The drums also are reported to be "velocity sensitive," meaning that a harder hit will result in a louder noise register. However, during song creation, this sensitivity will be used to alter the sound effect made by the drum. The drum set will be wireless.

Here's a picture of the wireless drums:

Rockband drums obviously incompatible. To activate star power on the drums, you will have to hit both cymbal pads at the same time.

Also, the song creator will not allow you to sing. This is to "save space in the files and to avoid potential copyright issues". That's a bit of a letdown, but not so much when you consider the fact that a lot of movie music, particularly movie music by Wendy Carlos from 1982 don't have lyrics.....

You will create the song by playing it in the Music Studio mode. You can play through it at full speed or half speed, and the game will lock the notes to tempo, which you can set and change throughout the song along with the instrument style (i.e. Classic rock, Metal, etc.) and notes (for guitars - Green button is A#, Red is B, etc.).

Who knew a ripoff could be so awesome? Of course, then again, we all thought Guitar Hero Aerosmith would be a crappy spinoff but it turns out we were wrong.

I don't think AC/DC is too easy on liscencing when it comes to their songs, sorta like Led Zepplin. I think there were some early rumors of AC/DC being in Rock Band, but they weren't true, and as far as I know, still aren't.

An AC/DC version of Guitar Hero would be awesome, though.

Seems like this year is a good year for Guitar Hero fans (I.E. me). There's going to be a total of 3 Guitar Heroes this year: Guitar Hero On Tour, Guitar Hero Aerosmith, and World Tour.

Even though I'm anticipating World Tour, I don't think it'll sell well enough. Activision announced World Tour pretty close to Rock Band's release, but advertising seemed to be confined to their site only, and not too many people knew about it. Now, everyone's getting Rock Band on the Wii, and everyone else probably already had Rock Band for 360, PS3, or PS2 that would consider World Tour. It's a very limited audience when you think about it, and I think Activision is working on a marketing failure (note: I did not say the game was a failure, I said the marketing was).

Also, Activision claims to have a copyright on the title Keyboard Hero. I play real piano, and I think it'd be a little hard for your average casual/hardcore gamer. Here's a graphical depiction of how I think Keyboard Hero would look on the screen and what I think the peripheral would look like:

Woah, site glitch took out a ton of the end of my previous post. Dang. At least that pic of the drums is still there.

Also, a close up from an early promo vid:

Notice the touchpad below the fret buttons.

Lookin' pretty sweet. Some of my info also got cut off I think. A recent leak claimed that you'll be able to play as Ozzy Ozborne, Ted Nugent, and Jimi Hindrix. Awesome.

Thank you. Activision is now 98% God. Or, in Will Wright's terms, .98G, lol.

And for those who actually took that seriously, I'm JK.

More options for making your own songs. You can use the guitar as a KEYBOARD, and have a "Matrix Synthesizer" in your custom songs. TRON, anyone?

There's also some talk of being able to upload and edit your songs on your PC on a program similar to GH Mix, which is shown in the first vid.

Activision made Rock Band
Activision and Rock Band are not affiliated with guitar hero.
Guitar Hero took Rock Band, pimpified it, and made Guitar Hero: On Tour.
Am I right?

Van Halen FTW.

Also, it's being said that all GH2 and GH3 characters (including Slash and Tom Morrelo) will be returning. One video showed the Grim Ripper on drums.
