Another Steam rip-off for the books...
...okay, so I want to play Team Fortress 2 on my PC. An easy task to play it, right? WRONG.
Whenever, Steam looks for servers, it KILLS my router and I lose my internet connection. I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get back on. Verifying the files for TF2 seemed to fix this problem...for a while, but it when back to its old ways. This seems to happen with other Steam games too. This is really driving me crazy. I'm making maps for TF2 and I want to play them with other people, but that seems to be impossible anymore.
Either my router thinks it's being attacked or Steam is being a bitch.
Any help is appreciative. Please help!
My router is a Belkin Wireless G and when I do the Steam Diagnostic, it gives me a thumbs up for my connections and my ports being reachable.

That's a really odd problem. Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for your router? Maybe there's a fix.

I've never seen the GUI for belkin.. but I'll give you some tips.
if you have settings similar to this in your router, check them.
SPI(statefull packet inspection)(enable)
NAT endpoint filtering= port and address restricted -only
non UDP/TCP/ICMP LAN sessions(allow)
IPSec(VPN)(allow)
RTSP -only
Windows/MSN Messenger
disable upnp
enable multicast streams
I dont enable dynamic DNS
no RIP
enable DNS relay
enable DNS server
always broadcast(dhcp)
dhcp reservations=mac address=static ip
These are setings on my Dlink DGL4300 you may see similarities. Linksys routers are not like this, but they are very simple in comparison..
the only thing other than windows firewall, is software firewall.... if you use a temp firewall and find it doesnt occur while the main firewall is disabled, thats the problem.
