Re: Did Disney try to kill TRON 2.0? on Thursday, February, 07, 2008 7:45 AM
No one was thrilled about adding the halo helmets into the game, but the order came down from Disney. Breaking Benjamin is on one of disney's record labels, if i remember right. So obviously they wanted to find an outlet to promote their act. With the whole halo thing, I'm sure someone in marketing thought it up.
I tried my best to thwart those songs from getting in there. Well, the best I could do while playing fair. I wouldn't do anything unprofessional. At one point I was listening to the BB tracks that disney brought over on a CD, and was getting more and more depressed. I think I was listening to try and pick out compatible songs, or rather which songs to leave out, I think there were more songs than we had multiplayer levels. And then it happened, like the sky parting to reveal sunshine after a storm. Benjamin dropped the F-bomb! I listened to more and more of the CD and discovered many other attacks from my F-bomb dropping 'friend'. (for the record: I like music with profanity. I believe swearing is not only a right, but the duty of every musician out there. This was not taught to us in music school, though, but I'm sure they figure you know that already if you made it there) So.... Knowing we wanted to get a squeaky clean T for Teen rating from the ESRB, I told my producer that we couldn't use the music, unless we wanted an M rating. He smiled, and I brightened everyone's day.
Unfortunately Disney had some one dig up the master recordings and mix the tracks down with out the vocals. Why the hard drive with the master tracks wasn't digitally shredded, set on fire, steamrolled, and then neatly filed way in an unlabeled box next to the Arc of the Covenant is beyond me. Sorry but I tried!
Incidentally, the first thing I noticed about the music now is how incredibly boring it sounded. Not that I remotely liked it with the vocals, but now it was even worse. All that was left were these cold and repetitive power chords and inhumanly tight drums (sounds like they were edited to perfection, from what I remember)
