I'm going out at lunch to pick up my reserved copy of the Limited Edition from GameStop.
Anybody else picking this game up today?

I'm going to try to get my hands on the Limited Addition. I've always been a System Shock fan. I'm looking really forward to this game..

well, while I will definately be getting this game [along with Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of war for PC, oh, and CRYSIS!!!!], it will be a long time before I can play them to any degree of decency.
having looked at the official requirements:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioshock#Official_requirements
I MIGHT be able to play the UE3 games on the absolute bare minimum settings.
i'll download the bioshock demo and see how that runs on my computer
I simply don't have the money to splash out on a big gaming rig.

Hell yeah.... Epic Games all the way... I'm such a UT fan. Crysis looks very promising so I can't wait for that either..
I just downloaded the BioShock Demo so I'm going to see if my system will handle it... |

I can't play the demo.. It crashes even after I upgraded my N'vidia drivers and direct X..... but I'm also using a N'vidia 5900 FX which isn't supported.
That's ok because I'm going to build me a new computer either next summer or spring if I can.

YES!!!
I picked up my copy of the Bioshock LE for the PC on my lunch hour today.
The Big Daddy figurine is looking mighty wicked. Good thing he's still trapped in his box...for now.
Also, I picked up the Bioshock strategy guide. I'm not a cheater, but sometimes I like to see what I missed after I play through a given game the first time so I can try to accomplish more on subsequent run-throughs. Besides, the strat guides are really sweet-looking and can have some background info that you can't get anywhere else.
While I was at GameStop I also picked up the pre-sell for the Crysis Limited Edition due out in November. The pre-sell comes with a demo, and maybe a poster; I'm not sure, I'd look at the package again but it's in the car.

Even though you might not think it, I know what you guys are talking about regarding barely being able to play a game. Already my PC is falling closer to the minimum hardware requirements of the new games than it does to the recommended hardware requirements. I am actually considering upgrading my two 256MB BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OCs to two 512MB 7900 GTX OCs - which would actually be quite a nice performance jump - or maybe one high-end GeForce 8-series card. I looked it up on GameSpot and it looks pretty cool. Alas, I'll probably never play it, as my PC couldn't handle it and I'm not buying an X-Box 360

I'm grabbing it for my 360! The demo was frickin' awesome and the game has been getting 10/10 reviews all over!
It's the best example of atmosphere and style in a video game I've just about ever seen...legit. The game is simply amazing in its graphics and, especially, in its sound.

The demo is definitely thick with atmosphere. It was pretty cool, but better hardware in my PC would be nice. I had to move the Graphic settings to Medium to get a smoother framerate and it definitely loses some of its atmospheric *oomph* when bumping the graphics down.
I have a GeForce 6800 GTS 256MB with an Athlon XP 2400+ AMD CPU (~2.0 GHz). It wasn't *too* bad on Medium, but I definitely won't want to buy and play the full game without something upgraded here. I think a new CPU would help a bunch, but I think I can only get up to 3 or 4 GHz w/ my Socket A motherboard... right?
I have an ASUS A7N8X 2.0 Deluxe motherboard, which I bought in like 2003. Anyone know what CPU options I have? Can I get a 64-bit chip? What is the best chip I can get for this thing? In my research, it seems I'm limited to old Athlon or Barton chips from years ago... ? Or maybe I can flash my BIOS and get much better chips made today? (I didn't mean to post a technical question here, but I'm just hoping someone knows. My post kinda drifted into disdain for my current PC setup.)
I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^ |

This just might be a tad premature, but I just had my second round of interviews with 2K Games today and it appears an offer is forthcoming for me to join their QA team as a Manager.
I guess I better get off my duff and get a copy of this ASAP.

BioShock is pretty creepy and a bit disturbing so far. The graphics are great, and the game is running very smoothly at 1024 x 768 with almost everything on.
Looking good!
Also, while I would still like to update my GPUs to the 512MB 7900s, I'm very glad I've got the X-Fi Fatal1ty APU because BioShock is optimized for the X-Fi & EAX Advanced 4.0/5.0. If you can get an X-Fi card with 64MB X-RAM - I know they have one with the memory but without the I/O Drive and remote for about $150.00 - do it because this game sounds amazing!where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

I also got my PC LE today. I listened to the CD and watched the DVD already. The "Making of" documentary is pretty good, if a bit short. But the CD is a total waste.
My figurine's drill tip is broken, so it looks like I'll be taking up 2K on their offer for a replacement.
Now, if only I could play the game. Sigh. I dunno if I can survive the wait until I upgrade.

You're pretty much in the same boat I'm in. Athlon XP 3200+, A7N8X-E motherboard, ATI X800 here.
Hate to say it, but like me you're going to have to start over from scratch and build a new system if you want to upgrade. You can't put anything better than a slightly faster Athlon XP on your motherboard.

I hope you get the job, 2K is a game publisher that isn't afraid to take risks. You should end up working on some very cool game titles. Any company that has the balls to back a game like Bioshock, deserves our business.

You don't think that if you guys upgraded to 2GB of RAM and got a new video cards that you wouldn't necessarily need to build entirely new systems? Also, X-Fi sound cards wouldn't hurt.
Edit: OK, so Traahn, your mobo is AGP and not PCIe. It can still take 2GB of RAM (3 GB, actually). Also, BFG has an AGP 256MB GF 7800 GS OC for $250.00.
I'm just suggesting that maybe you guys have got at least a couple of options other than building completely new PCs.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. I have 1.5GB of RAM currently; I don't think another half-gig would do much. As for video cards, I just got my vid card last year or so to hold me over for a while so I guess I was hoping a new CPU would hold me over even longer. But, since no CPU options really exist... and I doubt much more powerful video cards with major bus-width can work well with this motherboard, I agree with TronFAQ, I think I'm at the point where further investments in this system are futile. Time for a major overhaul. But, that will have to wait. I just got a Playstation 3 a while back, so I'll prey Bioshock eventually comes out for the PS3 because I won't be upgrading my PC any time soon. Yes, I know, Bioshock is an Xbox360/PC exclusive. But that doesn't mean it will never come out for PS3. I've seen "exclusives" branch to other platforms time and time again.
As for the makers of Bioshock, I am very fond of them. They came from the Thief series and System Shock. For that, I have tremendous respect for them and their abilities... and their willingness to deviate from the cookie cutter mold so many other game makers fall into.
2K Games/Sports (Take Two Interactive) could use a different 3D engine for the PS3, imo. Parts of their games seem to have similar appearances that I don't particularly care for -- it's a washed-out, very low texture look. Then again, other parts of their games look great; so I'm not exactly sure what's going on. Regardless, I'm sure improvements will come with time as they figure out more and more how to take advantage of the PS3 architecture.

That might actually get me to buy the PS3 finally. I have been waiting for that one "killer app" to show up on the PS3. It might be GTA IV for me. Definitely will be Half-Life 2 episode 2, if that ever shows up. Since launch, though, nothing has made me ache for the PS3.
It has dropped $100 since I've been waiting though. Do you have a PS3? Do you connect to the store where you can download PS1 titles to the PSP? I was wondering if they have Soul Reaver available for download. I can't find a list of what's available anywhere.
