I've never heard of this.

Is it basically just Japanese Speed Racer (which I thought was Japanese already) or an updated version of Speed Racer?

I used to watch Speed Racer a lot when I was a kid. I don't think Speed ever found out that Racer X was his own brother! Or maybe he did. I can't remember much about it, just that the Mach 5 was cooler than any other car I had seen at the time and I loved how it could jump and do all kinds of cool things. where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I found this info on wikipedia..
Later series

* The New Adventures of Speed Racer was an American produced 1993 series by Fred Wolf Films with more new episodes presenting a more contemporary style. The series was soon off the air (after only 13 episodes) as the Americanized character and vehicle designs didn't arouse viewer interest. However, it did introduce the Papenbrooks to voice acting, especially Bryce Papenbrook, who won the Speed Racer Sweepstakes.

* Speed Racer X, was released in 2002 by DiC on Nickelodeon's short-lived action block, Slam. This new series showed enormous promise as it was actually based on a new 1997 Mach Go Go Go anime series created by original Japanese studio Tatsunoko Productions. However, it was discontinued a few weeks after it started, when Nick unceremoniously, and without prior notice, took all Slam programs off the air. Its future is uncertain, as DiC and Santa Monica-based Speed Racer Enterprises became embroiled in a bitter lawsuit for control of the series. Even if the lawsuits between DiC and Speed Racer are cleared up, the anime series will never be complete -- due to production problems, production on this Speed Racer series was halted aft

Maybe it's from one of those?

I'm a big Speed Racer fan. I always wanted a hot wheels Mach 5 as a kid and now I've actually got one. Anyways... here is the run down.

The first version of Mach GoGoGo was created by Tatsunoko Productions in Japan. Here is the original opener with an English translation:

This is what became Speed Racer here in the states:

In 1993 Fred Wolf Films took a stab at making a 100% American Speed Racer. To my knowledge Tatsunoko Productions had nothing to do with this version and I personally never liked the animation style of this version.

However in 1997 Tatsunoko Productions set out to make an updated Mach GoGoGo. They even used CGI in the making of the series and if I could find the closing credits I'd show you. This is the version you see in my first post. A few episides have been translated into English and I've seen the first one. At the time it was called Speed Racer Y2K. As Nikster has pointed out its also been partially released as Speed Racer X. I don't know if all the episodes have ever been fully translated into English and to my knowledge the whole series has never been released to DVD in Japan. At this point I just want to see the rest of it and I'm willing to buy the DVDs in Japanese if I have to. Personally I really like the Japanese music and I think I even prefer it over the English version:

Enjoy,
Carl

P.S. The one episide of Speed Racer Y2K that I've seen is available here:

http://www.amazon.com/Speed-Racer-Ultimate-Interactive-Companion/dp/B000G1GGH4
This site also gives the episode names of all the versions:

http://www.geocities.com/cartoonresource/speedracer.html
Note it says Nickelodeon aired 12 episodes of Speed Racer Y2K (aka Speed Racer X) between Aug 25, 2002-Nov 10, 2002. I missed this but there were 34 episodes aired in Japan in 1997.

By the way, there is a Speed Racer movie in the works.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0811080/
At one time it looked like Johnny Depp was to play speed. Check out this eBay auction:

http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/Prototype-Mach-5-car-for-Speedracer-Johnny-Depp-film_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ52933QQitemZ6612553512QQrdZ1
Prototype Mach 5 car for the proposed Speedracer film (never produced) starring Johnny Depp. This sleek new design for the Mach 5 is constructed of fiberglass (with underlying wood chassis), and painted silver with the familiar stylized "M" logo on the hood. Originally made for the proposed Speedracer film in the mid-1990s starring Johnny Depp, but the film was unfortunately never produced. This prototype model measures 4 ft. long x 21 in. wide, and is a great memento of what could have been! $2,500 - $3,500

Here is the picture from the auction:

I have a friend that tells me he has seen this version of the Mach 5 on a poster.

Hi Carl...funny you should send me this...i was at a 1990 NYC Licensing
show and there was a poster for the speed movie of THAT car model...a
full front view... I wanted a poster but they were giving out posters
the NEXT day and I could not go back again...but THAT was the car...

Has anyone else ever seen this poster? I'd love to track down one but all I have to go on is this description.

Well I've now found a mov file of the new Mach GoGoGo closing and I've also found a mov file of the Speed Racer Y2K opening (It's a little different then the Speed Racer X opening). I just went to post them on my web site and I noticed its down. I just paid to renew it a couple months ago so I'm not sure what's up. I'll share them with you as soon as I can.

He may have. My memory of it is very sketchy since I have not seen it in almost 30 years.

I remember it being a big secret though - Racer X went through great lengths to hide his identity from Speed for some reason.

The Speed Racer 2000 intro is an interesting update to the original. I much prefer the original though. Of course, the original opening might not fair well with today's audiences (or the audience of 2000), so I understand the update.

And on that note... I have the original song stuck in my head now.

Oh well. It could be worse. I cold have Turkey In the Straw stuck in my head.

The only opener I like is the American version of the original Speed Racer. Every other version falls flat in my eyes.

Interesting Mach GoGoGo. Never saw those other versions, just the original.

It's interesting what they did to the Mach 5 in the Y2K series, but I must say I perfer the original Mach 5 design best. The body lines flow so well on it. Love the little razor fins. Simple, but sharp. The suggested fender skirt is a nice visual treat as well. The low rounded windsheild is awsome. Course I'm a sucker for 60's automotive designs so the Mach 5's design in general harkens to what was current and still oh so cool during it's time.

Ertl released a sweet diecast model a while back.

Are you talking about the "Second Wind" Hot Wheel? The original 1977 version is pretty HTF in mint condition. I have the last variant they made, which Mattel released in 1996.

I'm a big Hot Wheels fan. LOL

EDIT: I think I remember seeing "Speed Racer X" when I was 6 or 7. I don't remember much though.

My favorite model of the original is the Club-M version. Almost all other versions look too streamlined from the top.

Here is the Club-M version.

Very nice model. Looks alot cleaner. Really like the opening hood on that one. Is it plastic or metal?

The Ertl Model was for sale here a little while back at a local Big Lots for a bargin. They had an big influx of diecast car models. I got me a Vanishing Point Challenger that time and wanted to see if the Mach 5 would go down any more in price, since they had a ton of them. Now I wish I had bought one while they where as cheap as they where. It was a dissasembed kit, like my Challenger. It's time consuming to put together, but fun.

Its a resin kit. You need to put it together and paint it yourself. Here is the box it comes in:

And here is what it looks like before you start painting:

It sold for 19,800 yen and they also had a Shootingstar (Racer X's car) for 13,800 yen. Both are long since sold out:

http://www.clubm.co.jp/web/html/frame/mach/racer.html

But they pop up on eBay and Yahoo Japan from time to time.
