I'm also a fan of puzzles and enjoy this site:

Anyways, their March 21 update has a link to a very interesting little program called synchroplastikum. You can download it here:

Its only 4K in size and its gotten rave reviews. I personally haven't been able to get the 4K version to run yet on the 2 PC's I've tried however I have watched the avi video I downloaded from the same site, which I believe is what the 4K file generates. The video file is 26,149 K in size and if I'm correct I'm in awe.
Its certainly worth a look and if anyone is able to get the 4K file to work on their PC let me know what you did. It looks like someone fit a ray-tracer, the code to generate the objects, their motion, the camera's motion, and sound ALL into 4K and it looks and sounds great.
Enjoy,
Carl

I love demos like this. This is elite coding stuff, cramming a 3-D demo into a tiny executable. Though they almost always cheat. The code and data don't actually fit in 4K. The executable self-decompresses and consumes more memory than that. But still, there's something to be said for squeezing an executable file down to 4K or less.
As for why you guys aren't getting it to run . . . probably because you need a better video card. If you read the readme that comes with it, you need a DX9 card that has Pixel Shader 2.0 capability. (i.e. Radeon 9600 or better, GeForce 5200 or better.)
I got it to run, and it's pretty slick, if a bit short. BTW, it doesn't generate a video file . . . it generates real-time 3-D graphics on your screen with music. (Hence the need for a good video card.) The program is not a ray-tracer.
This is one of the most kick-ass demos I've ever seen, but if you guys are having trouble running the other demo, then this one probably won't run for you either.

Nope, I can run that one. Nice... It is also 8.2M in size. I don't know that its 2000 times better then the 4K one though.

I can run both - the first is a little bit choppy, but the second one runs 1280x1024 with full anti-aliasing very smoothly.
On this site, check out 'Realtime Radiosity Bugs' from the links at the bottom. It may have already been posted on the Sector before, but it's a cool, interactive demo. I haven't checked out any of the other demos on that site, but I'll get round to 'em.
