That's what I ended up doing with lightcycles in my RTS... you can either shoot a (fairly crappy) gun, or leave a light trail.

Independent game programmers for the win!

Nice... now I have another reason I need to make time for POV-Ray again. This would be an easy mod to my Lightcycle model and I could add a turret to the sidecar too. Great idea, I'll second Mr. Sinistar's sentiment. Tell your art guys "Thank You".
