I think John Deere has made a much more worthy concept that walks with great ease, a spider-tractor. Very balanced and workable. Check the beast out.

I think I saw this on the Science channel a while back but it's really cool. Aside from the very slow locomotion offered by this, it's cool and seems to be able to master different terrain that track and wheel vehicles can't do so well. I'd love the chance to drive (walk?) one!

Actually I think its Ertl that makes all the John Deere toys. I don't think John Deere makes any toys themselves but I cant say I'm sure of that.

I've seen these before too. They're impressive and they show how much technology is evolving, but I don't see much practical use for one of those in war. If even one foot gets knocked off, it is immobilized and is a multi-million-dollar sitting duck. They aren't sturdy enough to use in combat yet, even though they are extremely cool.

Yeah but like I said the same thing was said about Tanks. Mechs would be used possibly the same way Tanks are used today but probably carry alot more fire power. Its true that a giant robot would need a ton of energy to make it combat effective, right now this is a critical issue which prevents such machines from being in warfare today. But say in 50 years time this might not be an issue at all.

Its true that warfare today is more covert ops and and small squads rather than the traditional 100'000 men charging into battle screaming at eachother like the old days. But I wouldnt rule out mechs from the battlefield, imagine the phycological warfare of it, your standing there and you see massive mechs walking towards you these giant metal machines on legs. Would scare the hell out of me I can tell you that now.

Personally I would rather see mechs used in construction rather than warfare but you know how it goes. The military always gets technology before everyone else, look at the internet. It was invented so the military could stay in communication with eachother in the event of a nuclear fallout.

There are these new pills to help people who cant sleep stay awake without feeling tired and groggy and all the things you feel when your tired :-p well the military originally funded its research to be able to have troops that didnt need to sleep.

Its sad to say but most of the technology we have today can be traced back to being developed for military use.

P.S. The only real reason I think mechs are not seriously considered as a practical weapon is the fact that they are so slow. Why have a mech when you have a Tank that can travel over 100 MPH?

I think that the suit could be a battlefield machine if it were left to professionals. I'm not saying the guys who made it aren't professionals. I'm saying, like, military scientist people.

For balance and making it move alot faster, would to make it a bit taller and wider to fit more powerful hydrolics and adding a shifting counterwieight system near the mech center of gravity to allow it to shift it's COG over one leg, and alternate to allow easier walking.
