Hi!
I'm working on a Tron RTS game -- for now it's just a few maps (one single player, six multiplayer two of which can be played in SP by using bots) but it'll eventually grow big enough to be its own project. It's a first person RTS.

Here's the game with only the actual tron stuff in it -- some maps won't work (if you get a console screen when starting a map, use ctrl + the ~ key to clear it). The main advantage is that it's only 20mb.
I can't do a very good job without feedback -- I love Tron, but stink at trivia. Please help!

It looks good so far, but I have no idea how to play...
It took five minutes to get the game started, a further five minutes to work out how to get rid of the HUD (after it told me I was missing about 500 files), then I worked out how to move (really, really slowly), and I blew up a tank with grenadey things and my blaster, then after walking around for a bit, I saw a red thing coming at me really fast on the map which, in a word, pwnzed me. So I gave up.
But good work, anyway!

Oh... sorry!
If you press the 1 key, that's your compiler -- tell it to deploy (3). Then you'll be able to use the 1, 2, 3 keys to build vehicles, infantry and powerups respectively.
Once a unit is built, it's given a F key and can be controlled with it -- you can tell it to "pick you up" to use it.
To get out of the vehicle, hit H.

I downloaded it. It's OK, I guess. I appreciate the skins on an existing game platform. The interface is not intuitive and I really didn't know what was going on. I'm not sure why, when I spawned a lightcycle, that 5 lightcycles appeared out of nowhere and killed me.
It's not something I'd sit and actually play, but I applaud your efforts.

Thanks for the feedback... what map were you playing on?
What you saw is a very early beta; I cannot possibly finish this by myself.
The basic controls are:
W Forward
S backward
A Strafe on foot, turret on tank and assault tank
D Strafe on foot, turret on tank and assault tank
E Jump on foot
C Special (disc on foot, align turret on tank, grab on recognizer, map on command tank)
H Get out of vehicle
Mouse aims. Right button switches weapons, left shoots.
Use 1 (and later 1,2,3) to give orders to your compiler and F1-F10 to give order to your units. If it's a movement or attack order, aim to where it's supposed to be directed, then press space.

I'm sorry if my comments caused that. I like the skins, and all the tron sounds and stuff, and thought that was done very well. It was cool to see the recognizer come flying at me.
I just didn't find the game itself very fun. You just skinned over an existing game right?

Another update -- game is pretty much playable now, focus is on differentiating the various armies' functions (different weapons, for example -- any help welcome!). Added some airplanes exclusive to the dogfight map... see if you can figure out what games they're originally from. Cleaned up lightcycle logic a little. Independent game programmers for the win! |

Started doing the balancing, and put in the "canonical" weapons for at least the Red and Blue armies (you can use the disc to deflect, etc.) General cleanup.
