... I figured I better speak up a little.
I haven't gone anywhere.
I have been hitting TRON-Sector at least a few times a week when I can find a lousy micro-cycle or two to do so.
And that's about all the time I've had lately - a micro-cycle or two.
Life's just been really busy for me as of late.
Sometimes life gets put on hyper-busy-mode and my already far too limited personal time gets eaten up by other things in "the real world".
Unlike many, I cannot log in to TRON-Sectorfrom work. I'm stuck at my day job for many hours each day and can only sneak in TRON-Sector time here and there. I notice that many of you do much of your posting from your day job (or at least during daytime work hours). All I can say is DAMN - it must really be nice to be able to do that! Things are tough at my day job - not enough time to get work done, let alone time to play. I barely remember what that kind of day-job freedom tastes like - the ability to spend time and play on the internet while at work. It's been a long time since I've been privileged enough to drink from that cup.
I posted this in another thread (the Anyone wish for a better Avatar size? thread), but here it is in its own thread, with a little more detail.
I work a lot of hours each week. I also have to exercise many hours each week. I also have house and yard work to attend do as I cannot afford to pay people to do it for me. I also have had some unexpected maintenance work around the house AND yard to attend to on top of the regular chores. Oh yeah, and there's this really awesome woman in my life - she's been good to me over the years and a very loving and understanding wife. She kind of likes when I spend at least a little of my time with her here and there. My limited play time at work has gotten even more limited in recent months, so even though I can't log in to The Sector from work as it is, I now have even less time to scout around for threads that I may want to reply to later on from home (which as of late, there has been MANY threads I have interest in getting involved in the chat, but DON'T HAVE THE F---ING TIME GRRRRRR!). I know this is a problem with several other members as well. Man it sucks.
TheReelTodd hasen't left TRON-Sector, nor does he plan to.
For now, he is just busy as f---ing hell... and for some odd reason, talking about himself in the 3rd person as well.
Time is the elusive beast in my life... there is never enough of it for me to enjoy... so some things have had to take a back seat for other personal priorities for a while.
I honestly thought I could take care of things going on right now and be done BEFORE anyone here even noticed that I wasn't around every day for a while. Stupid me - I underestimated just how busy my life would be for a while.
I'm not generally one to announce publicly in advance that I'll be out for a while. Chatting personally, in PM's, e-mail, etc. is a different thing, but I don't live my life on the internet so to say. I should have, however, announced to the other admins (privately in the admin forums) that I may be busy for a while. I apologize for my poor choice on that part and I offer my apology here publicly. Again, I never expected things to take so long at first, but should have at least given heads up to my admin bro's regardless.
For those who've missed my presence here - thank you so very much! It does feel good to be missed, especially by people here! This is the friendliest and most genuinely caring group of folks I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with on the internet.

No need to explain here, TheReelTodd. I know what you mean. I think any of us (including admins) should feel free to take a break from the Sector for whatever reason they want, without having to explain themselves or give notice beforehand. And if at any time you feel being an admin is stressing you out and ruining your Tron appreciation or Tron-Sector experience, I think you should politely ask to step down from an admin role and join us in the ranks again. Being an admin is not worth ruining your Tron life, imo. I've done enough web work in my life to know that an admin role can sometimes take the fun out of things. Please Note: I'm not saying the admin role is ruining things or ever will for you or any other admin; just saying I can totally relate if it ever did.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Wow!!! I've felt drained lately too between work and home and haven't had as much time to play here as I would like. But after reading the above I feel lucky... while I still work nearly 12 hour days most days (if not more) atleast I can take a peak in here during the day to see what's up. Its at home between my boys soccer practice, their home work, and keeping the house and yard up that I can't find the time to get on-line much. Considering my PC at home is on its last legs that may be a good thing as if I'm on it for more then 15 minutes I've usually got to reboot it several times.
Take it easy my friend and if there is anything I can do to help let me know,
Carl

*Raises hand*. I'm guilty of that. We're pretty much allowed to be self-starters and as long as we get the job done; no one is glaring over our shoulders making sure we're doing what we're supposed to be doing.
Also, I have downtime when one piece of software is uninstalling, and another is installing, so I tend to find something to do when that's happening. Another thing is people here take smoke breaks… or breaks to wander around and chat (some do that more than they should, to be honest), or walk breaks. I take Tron-Sector breaks.
I am in an office, though, with the monitor facing the wall. We're moving into a new building in November to a cubicle sea, where our monitors will be facing OUT for everyone to see. So.... my posting from work will lessen come November. I'm sure you're all disappointed.

We all get sidetracked by RealLife responsibilities (tm) and the other places on the 'net. Nothing to worry about.

Don't worry TheReelTodd, we knew you weren't really gone. No one can escape from the grid that easily!
Real life takes priority over hobbies. I guess I'm lucky that - for the moment, at least - I still have a fair bit of free time to visit sites like Tron-Sector, and work on my little projects. That will probably change in the not-too-distant future.
I'm looking forward to Weed Killer 2, as well!

I didn't take it as a jab, though I did start to feel a tad guilty. Guilt is normally not much a part of my life, but when I feel like I've let good people down, guilt can creep in a little. Anyway, feelings of guilt were of my own doing. My mind can sometimes get the best of me... that's why I usually choose to go about mindless!

Thanks, Traahn. I hope my little bout of complaining wasn't taken wrong. I was complaining more about life in the real world than anything else. I hate how it restricts me and boxes me in sometimes. I have never felt that being an admin here has dampened my love of TRON or TRON-Sector in any way at all. I'm here because I love TRON and I love the awesome friends I find here every time! If anything, this place is a great place to help me de-stress... that is when I have the time to de-stress!

Holy cow! TWELVE HOURS A DAY??
I've had to do that on occasion, but to be honest, I usually don't have to work more than 10 hour days... of course, I do get stuck with about 2 hours of exercise some days, just an hour on others... and the drive to and from work... ok, it all adds up and sucks up my time. Better stop before I start ranting again!
Thanks for your kind and supportive words. Another fine example of why I LOVE this place and my fellow TRON loving friends!

I used to be able to do the same... but things as of late have made it very difficult to get any internet time in at work. I hope what I said didn't come off as me pointing the finger of shame on anyone who gets internet time at work. I WISH I could join the ranks! Perhaps things will smooth out soon and I can at least sneak in a little more time there in the future... even if I can't log in.
BTW - I'm a department head BUT I don't have an office - just a large and somewhat sloppy cubicle. My computer screen is easily seen by people passing by... which is somewhat frequent. I feel it sends out a bad example when my workers find ME playing on the internet... so I really try to keep it to minimum - that is when I actually can squeeze in time for it. At the same time, I don't mind my workers taking some play time here and there - so long as they get things done on schedule. I'm always more strict on myself.

Raises hand! You have no idea how much the C64 means to me. That thing ruled my world back in the day. And then the Amiga 500 did when that came out.
PS: Since we have your attention here... what does "Vader Skater" mean????? You mentioned it in my Grid Bug thread and confused the heck out of a good number of us!

I miss that old computer... The memories I have playing games and waiting for them to load really is priceless. It almost brings tears to my eyes looking back on such a great childhood in the C64 world.... God bless the Commodore...

Wow - look at that!
It seems when someone says "Commodore 64", the memories just start flooding back to everyone who owned one!
I enjoyed mine back in the day, though it was quite moody. I think it used to overheat on me. I remember the power supply getting really hot during extended use.
Awesome computers they were, though. Beautiful color graphics, amazing (for the time) sound capabilities, and the video games were very close to arcade quality (for the time).
Traahn - "Vader Skater" I'm sorry - I never got back to you on that. You were talking about something strange one time, with Darth Vader skating or something like that. I said "excellent use of 'Vader Skater'" in response. "Vader Skater" doesn't mean anything - I just liked the sound of it - strange and weird and all. I was just paying a compliment on your silliness - an awesome quality in my book!
Qix77 - Yeah, Commodores were greatness wrapped up in a brown-ish/tan-ish shell. Many good memories of mine too!
Boingo_Buzzard - Haaaaaaaaa! I love your Commodore motivational poster! And how true, how true. Do you remember the excitement of writing those early programs and showing them off to friends? Truly magical experiences they were!
NoExcuses - Awesome desktop. I got my C64 in 1983... how old were you again in 1983? You make me feel a little old, but I really admire your interest in those classic machines! Most people your age would just laugh at how "limited" they were. In fact, they were very powerful machines that utilized every single processor clock-cycle and the programmers were masters of efficiency because they could do things in a 64kb environment that today's programmers can't even do with 6 megabytes!
When I was shooting the live-action C64 portions of Weed Killer, I had a flood of memories myself. I had to spend well over an hour just cleaning and dusting off my vintage C64 before shooting that sequence (was in storage for a long time). Oooohhhh the memories that came rushing back while cleaning it up. What an awesome time that was way back in the day.
I'm not sure I should have loaded up Weed on my C64 though... he's a bit rough on the machine - the way he hyper-clocks it and all! That will make more sense when I publish the video.
And now... time to get dressed and mow the lawn. Our yard doesn't look all that big until you start mowing it. I SWEAR that thing grows and expands during mowing!

Thanks for the info RE: Vader Skater! You had some of us confused on that one! I will update the related thread to close any gaps there.
Did you have to remind me about mowing the lawn? I also experience the same phenomenon. I really hate mowing the lawn. I need a riding lawn mower
Commodore 64! I just ran into mine in the garage a couple weekends ago. I should fire that puppy up!

Totally. I actually programmed that "game" you see there in the poster. I have Frodo, but couldn't really remember BASIC syntax. I went to that Lemon64 page and they have all the programming manuals online, so I got to reacquaint myself with some of the commands.
I used to program Compute! Magazine games too back in the 80’s. That's where I learned how to "type". Then they started in with the machine language stuff, which made my eyes cross. Luckily they had that check digit utility so you'd know if you typed in all the numbers right.
Towards the end of my run on the C64 I got this thing called the "Advanced Programmer's Toolkit" from Epyx. It greatly expanded the BASIC format and allowed for easy graphic drawing tools (no more PEEKs and POKEs), and integrated a controller system (i.e. joysticks). I made some decent games on that before it went into storage.
