seeking a box-like mono-spaced font

on Wednesday, August, 16, 2006 6:28 PM
I've been all over the internet, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for... at least not for free.

I need to find a free mono-space font that literally has no curves, no diagonals, and is only made up of vertical and horizontal shapes. Kind of like a box-like font. At the same time, I don't want anything that appears pixilated when blown up, like FixedSys does. To eliminate the pixilated look when enlarged, no "blocks" can be present - just lines.

Example:

The letter "A" might look like this:

@@@@@@@@
@@@@@@@@
@@ @@
@@ @@
@@@@@@@@
@@@@@@@@
@@ @@
@@ @@
@@ @@
@@ @@

And the letter "R" might look like this:

@@@@@@
@@@@@@
@@ @@
@@ @@
@@@@@@@@
@@@@@@@@
@@ @@
@@ @@
@@ @@
@@ @@

Do you see where I'm going?

Again, it has to be mono-spaced too, where EVERY character takes up the exact same width regardless of what letter or punctuation mark it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks, Capt_Capacitor. I had already spent some time there. Cool fonts, but not quite what I was looking for... and I needed something for free.

So...

Yep - made my own pixel font... sort of. It is really just custom macro that generates a text matrix based on my input. It works. It's what I was looking for, and I saved $$ on a font that I will not use very often, by making my own.

The macro program is called Macro Express by Insight Software Solutions.

http://www.macros.com
This little gem is one of the most useful programs I've ever used in a Window's environment. I use it at work (very frequently) and at home (usually for creative projects).

The best part is it only costs $40.00 USD!

It uses a very simple and easy to learn scripting language. Basically, it's like just programming without knowing how to code. So long as you understand logic and the basics of how the utility works, you can pretty much automate anything you want.

Understand though, it is not the macro program that made the font - I made the font and simply used the macro to translate my text input in to the graphic font characters you see.

I'd say get the program. You have a 30-day trial before it expires (and won't let you save anything anymore). After that, $40.00 is a small price for all the greatness it has to offer. It does take a little time to learn the basics at first, but I'm sure you'll pick up on it without much trouble. Their help menu is actually helpful.

Ah! I posted a message as Traahn in one thread, and now Traahn has posted as both Traahn and me.

I'm confused!

Sure - why not?

TheReelFont it is!

It's SQUARE! Just like ME!

(for those who need a quick American pop-culture history lesson, in the 50's "square" used to mean un-hip, not with it, nerdy)

Sweet! I've never seen that here before. A single post being posted by two different people! The grid bugs here never cease to amaze me. To clarify, I (Traahn) suggested 'TheReelFont' , and it posted twice. Once under my name and once under NoExcuses.

TheReelFont it is!
Excellent!!

Woo! We were the first to experience this new type of grid buggitiness!

And my post count went up +1!

And the font's been called 'TheReelFont'!

Could today get much better?

Probably!
