I am in-love with Dee-Lite's music. I have been since I was little...
They make cool psychedelic technoey music and Lady Miss Kier (The girl...duh) sings.
Most people I ask about them seem to know This song:

I wonder how many other people know of them...hmmm. ==

I know only that song, which I think was their only hit. I think they were all DJ's that got together and formed a group, right?
Dig that cat suit though. Meeeeeeeeow.

Groove Is In The Heart is the reason I bought World Clique. I've had that CD for years; it's the only Deee-Lite album I own, but it's a good one and I like pretty much all of the songs on it.

The guys were DJ's and the girl was a fashion student, I think. ==

They only made, like, three albums, plus a remix album.
I have 'em all! ^_^
World Clique is full of coolness, though.

Ditto! As someone whose spent 1000+ hours at clubs and raves over the last 10+ years, I'm definitely familiar with everything Dee-Lite. I love their sound when mixed properly .
I never really listened to much Bootsy Collins stuff, but I know he's put out quite a bit over the years.

It's kind of funny actually; back when this came out, my parents didn't have cable, so late at night I'd hang out at my friend's house so we could watch Liquid Television and Headbanger's Ball on MTV, and whatever else was cool on late night MTV with the exception of dance music videos. We were metal heads, damnit!
One night, we were hanging out playing poker and had the T.V. tuned to MTV, just waiting for something good to come on. Then, when we heard the first few notes of Groove Is In The Heart coming through the T.V. speakers we both lifted our heads up out of the game, looked at each other as if to say "Did you just hear that funky-cool hook?" and proceeded to sit in front of the T.V. to watch the video.
After that, it was like a guilty pleasure; two metal heads watching the dance music video segment of MTV hoping to see that Deee-Lite video!

BAD was fronted by The Clash's Mick Jones who went kind of techno pop, but then back to punk at the end of BAD's run. Closest thing they came to a hit was a song called “Rush”, although I hear “E=MC2” all the time on Sirus.
Soup Dragons had the hit "I'm Free" which you still hear on cell phone commercials.
Jesus Jones had the hit "Right Here, Right Now" which is also recently on commercials.
EMF had the dance pop hit tune "Unbelievable".
All pretty much one-hit wonders, but I still liked their albums and music.

Hrm. I don't think it's not the same song. I pulled it up on Amazon and it's something else, plus the lyrics don't match. Could it be they're just named the same?

Ah, okay now that you've put the song and the band together I recognized the Jesus Jones and EMF songs just from the titles alone.
On Amazon I looked up both BAD and The Soup Dragons.
BAD's 'E=MC²' didn't ring any bells, but I recognized 'Rush' right away; I just never knew the song title.
The only total miss is 'I'm Free' by The Soup Dragons. I can definitely say I've never heard it before.
Thanks for putting together those bands with their hit songs. Now I know what to look for if I ever want to pick up some new old CDs. "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. J. I remember them vividly. I only know their one song though - the one you included the link to. It was 1990 when that was released (if memory serves). I remember listening to it on the radio and enjoying the video on MTV (waaaaay back when they actually played MUSIC videos). I loved the video because it was so trippy and psychedelic. And of course, the song had a cool beat and was catchy. This was right around the time I just started to feel like I was getting old... or at least older. I remember them talking about Lady Miss Kier (probably on MTV news) and she was the same age that I was. All of a sudden I was realizing that the singers/bands on MTV weren't older than me anymore... I had caught up. And of course, shortly there after, I way passed them. The new ones anyway. And now, I'm just an old fart. Oh well - at least I'm a COOL old fart! Or so I think anyway.
This this group still together 16 years later? If so, that's quite an accomplishment. Not many groups can hold it together that long.

Man, I LOVED Liquid Television! That was one of my FAVORITE shows on MTV, ever. I used to WISH I had access to the kind of equipment that I have today back then so I could make something strange and cool for that show.
I'm having a flashback to that strange animated song "Don't Go in the Attic". Do you remember that by chance? Very strange and it was sung by an animated lizzard if memory serves. Just looked that up on YouTube - not there. Stick Figure theatre was cool... those strange stop-motion animations with the two-headed girl were great. And of course, my favorite, AEON Flux!
Sorry, Tori. A little OT, but great memories of the same time period!
