Okay... since I have no idea what's going on in the comic currently (Postmen steal my stuff when I order it form the Internet and my city is too stupid and small to get it) but judging from that, I'd say there's going to be some dictators or something in issue numero deux.

BTW, did you come up with a name for that jet yet? ^^;;

Wow, you've really got an Orwellian look going there. And I think I know why . . .

Three letters.

The next issue looks like it's going to get mighty interesting.

Looking at Kia purity like a puppy with their head turned to one side and ears up looking at her pawing the picutre. Le woof tron woof.

Can't wait either for it to come out. I have several ideas here for my linux machine that might work for theming it as a tron machine. And the machine itself as well.

I tried the tufu thing at one point because of my kid bro wanted to go that way. I personally didn'tlike it. It was a phase that my kid bro went through too. God I love my meat sometimes. No offense to you that you decided to go that route. Since it is your opinion to go that way and I won't argue against it either to each their own I always say.

Like S.O.L?

Anyway, recognizers?? I heard that they had become obsolete by the Tron 2.0.

I kinda miss the pre-2.0 Tron world anyway. None of this Thorne/Corruption/Super-User-In-A-Box stuff.

To be honest, I never liked the idea of technology needing to evolve in the digital realm. As all of the represented tech is an analogy, evolution is somewhat unnecessary. And of course, the iconic value cannot be easily dismissed. So we made the decision to retain the visual appeal of the original, and make apologies to the Tron 2.0 purists.

But we also address this. Or we will. In theory. Probably around issue 4.

Thing is, computers have changed significantly since 82.

You've probably been asked this before and I've missed it, but do you ever get the feeling that you're playing with someone else's toys with this?

PS: On the first issue 2 sneak peak, the thing that looked immediately un-TRONish was the jet flames, simply because I don't recall any analogue to them in the film.

But, should that be a straightjacket for you? After all, this isn't TRON. This is TRON: the Ghost in the Machine.
;-)
A real smiley! How's THAT for nostalgia?

I disagree . . . computers have evolved so much, the visuals should reflect that in certain cases. A total makeover isn't necessary, but some visual cues should be there. The firewall in the game, was a perfect visual metaphor for the real world concept. Brilliant, in fact.

the Tron 2.0 purists.
Can there be such a thing? Without the film, there would be no game. That would be a pretty silly attitude to take.

Anyway, for me the two look enough alike that I personally don't see that much of a distinction. I love the look of both. The game has an updated look that reflects new technology concepts, but at its core it still looks the same.

JJ Gregarius Wrote:Thing is, computers have changed significantly since 82.

Yes and no. They are significantly more advanced, that is true. But the fundamentals remain the same. Regardless, the world of Tron is not literal. The technology is an analogy. There never was such a thing as a solar sailor, by way of example. Not literally. From my perspective, the purpose of the sailor was to transport data from one networked machine to another. Other than speed, this function is unchanged in modern computers. A human being enters the digital realm and his/her perception takes this universe of pure information and translates it into something they can relate to. There are no recognizers or light cycles or walking talking programs. There is information. There was Flynn, the only foreign being to this land, And conveniently he encounters "tech" that is primarily of his own design.

The most logical upgrade of the digital universe (for if we measure the advancement of computers and apply it properly) would be for the digital realm to visually mirror the real world. If we suggest that tanks/recognizers/light cycles exist as Flynn saw simply because they looked that way on the game screen, we introduce the notion that RTS games should now be represented with medieval sections and miniature vikings, or the Sims style of appearance, or really pretty much anything, because with computers, we can create anything. Thus we have something that ceases to be what we consider the Tron look. Therefore the universe must be an analogous one. And with that we lose an imperative to show progress.

JJ Gregarius Wrote:You've probably been asked this before and I've missed it, but do you ever get the feeling that you're playing with someone else's toys with this?

Oh sure. We are. We're lucky to have the opportunity.

JJ Gregarius Wrote:PS: On the first issue 2 sneak peak, the thing that looked immediately un-TRONish was the jet flames, simply because I don't recall any analogue to them in the film.

I can see that. And of course, the irony is that the vehicle you're referring too really looks like an updated mach2 style recognizer to me. But I had nothing to do with design. I simply wrote the vehicles appearance and function. I don't dictate design. This is one of the reason I feel comfortable discussing and even debating this aspect. I'm not making this aprticular decision in the final product. I really don't know what these things will look like in the book until I recieve them. I try to push things in a direction, I confess. But we try to leave the final say to Louie. He's the one who has to draw it and he should have the final say.

JJ Gregarius Wrote:But, should that be a straightjacket for you? After all, this isn't TRON. This is TRON: the Ghost in the Machine.

True, and honestly our only worry is appealing to the largest common denominator with this while still producing something we're proud of. We have to do it this way. Otherwise, the book won't sell and will disappear. If this means that 90% of the comic buying public want the MCP to show up as a special guest complete with a top hat and a sinister mustache, so be it. If we can find a way to make it work in the story, that is. If we can't... well, that's when we quit. So far, no one has put any actual restrictions on us at all. Which is good as we have a fairly cemented concept of what we want to do. But we feel a responsibility to our publisher to maintain a certain design.

JJ Gregarius Wrote:A real smiley! How's THAT for nostalgia?

That's it. We're officially kicking it old school here.
