PS3 delayed until November?

on Wednesday, March, 15, 2006 10:22 AM

Looks like Sony is saying that the PS3 is going to be delayed until the end of this year, which I am sure means HOT Christmas item which means none on the shelf.

I'll have to spend $750 on something else, I guess. How about 750 Jumbo Jacks?

750 of those crappy KFC chicken thingies!

I am buying a PS3 purely so I can play KH2 and KH1 since my son will be taking my PS2 to Colorado with him when he moves this summer.

Gotta see if I can use my industry connections to ensure I get one! Muahahahahahaha.

Well, 6 months or however long the delay is, can be quite a bit of time, technologically speaking. Ultimately, won't it instead be more like a 7 or 8 month delay from when they were first thinking it would be out? If so, I hope they're putting newer/updated hardware (video/chip/etc.) in it. I doubt they will be, but ideally they should. Consoles can't get upgraded like a PC, so it will potentially already have 8 months of obsolescence by the time it launches. No thanks! I will instead maybe wait for Windows Vista, DirectX 10 and supporting hardware for upgrading my PC. I was definitely thinking about getting a PS3, but now I'm not so sure I will want one at launch. I can get by with my PC, upgrade it, and maybe buy a PS3 later on when they're cheaper. But not sure... I just don't have a big draw toward PS3 any more.

I'm not sure what's in the game (since I've never played it) but real "man-u-matics" that provide the ability to shift manually without a clutch pedal have been available on a growing number of makes and models for years.

For example, here is some info on the new Cadillac six-speed automatic:

Driver Shift Control (DSC) -- DSC allows the driver to manually shift gears, similar to a manual transmission.
When the shift selector lever is moved to the DSC position, the driver may manually select upshifts or downshifts.
The specific method that the driver uses to accomplish this varies with vehicle application.
Performance Algorithm Shifting (PAS) -- PAS is a transmission algorithm that looks at lateral acceleration, throttle, and vehicle deceleration activity to determine if the vehicle is being driven in a competitive manner. If the
algorithm recognizes these conditions, it can force downshifts and hold lower gears for optimized vehicle performance.
Performance Algorithm Lift Foot (PAL) -- PAL minimizes upshifts during closed throttle driving and cornering to prevent unnecessary shifting.

I'd say they've been widely available for a little over 10 years, but they've been around in one form or another since the early 1940's.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

That's not true at all. Consoles have a pretty long life span... six or seven years? In that time the game manufacturers have to program to the specs of the console, so you're guaranteed you wont have to "upgrade" just for a game. It’s not like a PC in that aspect at all where you have something DOA. Consoles actually hold up…. As long as people make games for it. It’s when they don’t (Sega Deamcast) that the console becomes “obsolete”.

The delay isn't a bad thing...it'll give folks more time to save up for one.

I know they have a long life-span, but that's kina part of the problem. Halo 2 for the XBOX came out years after launch and didn't look very good, imo (cartoony, not that impressive of framerate, etc.) due to the dated hardware, imo. Thief: Deadly Shadows had a simultaneous launch of PC & XBox (unfortunately), where they made the both versions nearly identical. (In dev forums, they commented that they were limited by XBox hardware.) Since some 'higher-up' wanted the simul-launch, it made the PC version suffer. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a simul-launch betw/ XBox360 and PC. Near-identical versions. They say one of the fastest ATI chips will run the game like the XBox 360, and I think some minor enhanced abilities, to boot. Not a big deal, but fast forward a few years from now when that ATI card is nothing compared to the technology of that time and the XBox hardware is pretty outdated, comparatively. Maybe I'm just a bit jaded because I got one of those Dreamcasts But, no... I just prefer PC games and seeing high-res on my monitor, etc. At the same time, I enjoyed my Nin64 (for the very few games that were tailored to people over the age of 8).

Well, that's the age old debate. I prefer my console because I don't have to run out and buy new hardware, get new drivers, update this, update that every time a new game comes out. Some people REALLY like to do that though. I do find that die hard PC gamers usually will tell you all about how a game LOOKS and less about how it plays. If that's what's most important than that's cool.

To say that the console is "dated" in comparison with the PC is not a very good comparison because of the fact you don't upgrade consoles. I like the fact that the game makers for consoles have to focus more on gameplay and less on stunning graphics.

I know what you're getting at, though. I'll get the PS3 mainly because that's then what all new games will come out for. Not JUST because it's faster, cleaner, etc (although that will be cool)

Yeah, I have friends that are constantly battling to have the best hardware. I upgrade every year to two years, and not being too much of a gamer this doesn't present a problem. I did however upgrade my PC for the sole purpose of MGS2:Substance, and so I had nothing to worry about when I got Tron 2.0 . When I do buy a game, I always make sure it plays well, and I tend not to care about graphics too much at all.

And for that reason I have a SNES and two Dreamcasts. Don't ask why I need two, it's a long story.

I hear ya. But I'm also a lot more about gameplay than graphics. Age of Empires 3 has me a bit frustrated due to their extreme focus on graphics, thereby letting gameplay severely suffer, imo.

I think that's a common misconception you need to constantly upgrade your PC to play games. Once you have a good system, you shouldn't need to upgrade it for years. And new games that come out, you can just bump down the graphics from "highest possible detail possible," down to "medium." So, as games get more sophisticated, you just bump them down if you need to. I've updated my PC very little over the years, plunked down very little cash, yet it does well on games still. I do need to invest some money soon, but I'm willing to pay the price. I saw $750 thrown around her for the PS3. If that's the case, I can spend a similar amount on my PC and have just as good of return on investment, imo.

Unfortunately, gameplay can suffer on PC games because of the need to create on consoles, too (Thief 3, was just one example). If there are hardware limitations on a console, then there are hardware limitations; you can't get around it. There were load "zones" in Thief 3 that had no reason to be there other than to accommodate the low RAM in the Xbox. This has little to do with kewl graphics, and a lot to do with hardware limitations, resulting in bad gameplay implications, imo. Thief is known for its huge levels, then all the sudden you get small, compartmentalized areas that, in sum, make up the whole level. Very bad, in terms of gameplay.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

That was just me being flippant. I'm not sure what the final price was. For me the PS2 final price was $500.00 (Console, extra controller, memory stick and one game). So we can say at LEAST $500.

Well, to be honest if the GAME has QC problems, that's not the fault of the console. I don't blame the X-Box for Tron 2.0's problems. Game makers should not port something to a system that can't handle it. If you just don't get it for the console, then you just don't get it. (That being said, anyone know how Half Life 2 plays on the X-Box? )

The console is not going to be 750... if anything, it'd be 400. That's a silly price. :P

And like Nik said-- this delay is a really good thing because I do need to save up lots of money for PS3.

...oh wait you just threw the price around, Bongo? Sorry. ;_; For me, It was only uh, 175. Yeah, I didn't even get the extras with my PS2. :P (This was when it dropped from 200 to 175ish)...

I tend to wait on the extras unless I really need them, like memory cards (obviously) and I didn't even get any games with the PS2 either. ; I just borrowed Silver's games until I could afford to get more games for myself.

I had to have the PS2 when it first came out. It was $299.00 at launch. The game was $60 and the memory card was $50. The extra controller, I think was $30. $30 for sales tax and the total for me was $470. Yikes!

Yikes. o_o

I tend to play it safe and wait... (but if there's really good games, I try to at least get the games... and a hold of Silver's consoles!)

He currently owns: psx, ps2, xbox 360, 3DO (panasonic, I think), gamecube, gba (not sure if he still has his anymore), ds, and psp.

He does intend on getting a PS3 at launch date... I'm willing to wait through price drops. The only console/hand-held I want to get right now is the DS. (I'll probably end up with his DS when he gets the slim DS.)

I told myself that I would do the same thing for the PSP when it launched. However it launched with Wipeout Fusion so.... you know what happened.

Unless the PS3 launches with some amazing title I won't do what I did with the PS2 and buy it to have it and only have some crappy game to play on it (I bought "Summoner" initially *sour face*). And DEFINATELY I won't play the running around madly trying to find one when it's nowhere to be found thing. THAT sucked (and I was fearful someone would mug me in the parking lot when they saw me leaving Best Buy with it)
