Has the world of Tron been elaborated on through any mediums of print such as books or comics?

Yes, on both counts.
There was a novel printed by Del Rey, written by Brian Daley. It was published way back when the film was released. You can probably still get it, used. Most likely eBay is your best bet.
There were also some comics, but I'm not too familiar with what they were like. And, of course, there's a new comic coming this year.
