Inked Tron

on Sunday, February, 05, 2006 1:39 AM
Thursday a friend introduced me to blue drawing lead. I've seen it, but never used it before. I'm in love with this stuff! Doesn't smear, goes on lighter, and is harder to pick up when photographed. A wonderful break from regular pencil lead. This stuff rocks! Now just need to buy 0.9 and 0.7 to go along with the 0.5 I have. Been trying out this awsome stuff. Started drawing in my sketchpad and one drawing went far enough I inked it. Here is the results. Enjoy.

I'm dissapointed in the disc lines, but am happy how the ink looks on the drawing. Now I just need to draw larger next time.

Man, this bot needs recharging. *clanks off to bed*

That's some very nice work. I made it my desktop wallpaper.

Are you going to add color?

I've noticed that you have several really neat styles of art that you do. Have you animated anything? Perhaps someday you might do a flash cartoon... If you ever do, you have to let me know...

Yeah, I want to add color to it. Deciding what medium. Color pencile might work well for the body for some nice shade effects, and mabey straight marker for a good solid outline. Hmmm, will need to run by the campus copier so I can do some color tests before I actually touch the original drawing.

Thanks. I've done a few minor animated pixle art, but not anything major I would say. Never done flash animation before. They have flash on the campus Macs. I would love to try it out, though getting the time to do it is difficult with assignments and a personal project I'm slowly working. Third week into the semester and I've already been camped out on campus, starting at 6:50 am till some times 9:00 pm. People think I'm nuts getting to campus that early, but a good parking space is freakin worth it with the roller toolbox I lug aroung with all my drawing supplies. I understand the vector mechanics of flash animation seen on the net, but don't know the program. Hmmm, I need to experiment with that program some. Oy, so much to do.

That is an understatement... I know what you mean... There are so many things that I've been wanting to do, but outside of work and some personal projects I've involved myself with, it takes up so much time... and then I have to eat, sleep, and find whatever time I can to get rid of all the stress.... I know what you mean...

Hope things go well at school. Keep up the great work... I'm also learning flash but I need someone to help give me some direction on things that I can't seem to grip with on the program. I've got a friend in town who could help once I find the time to call him up and set up a time to do so....

....there I go again... finding time... lol

Sleep... what is this thing called sleep you mention? It sounds wonderful.

Yeah, time... if only you could capture it in a jar and use it when you wanted or needed to. Hmmm, would time need air holes?order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Nice work, Sketch!

I'm always amazed how you can conjure up such beautifully detailed imagery freehand like that.

Oddly enough, I even like the look of the drawn-in black background like that. Perhaps because it gives it a more hand-drawn look.

That's a fantastic sketch . . . Sketch!

Like TheReelTodd said, it amazes me how you can do something like that so quickly. It's just a doodle to you, but to me it's a major project!

Just curious though, as to exactly what blue drawing lead is? I know I could Google it, and it's probably very similar to what it sounds like it is. (It's blue, and it's made of lead.) But I'd like to find out exactly what makes it different?

Some of these drawings are little fun experiments. Just love drawing, I can't help it, it's a huge part of my persona. I once had a teacher in elementary school that wanted and tired to ban me from penciles cause I alway drew. She felt it wasn't good for a child my age. HA! Anyway, I'm trying to do more inking and such like the drawing above when I'm not doing much of anything else. Learn something new every time I do a little exersise like this. Sometimes a doodle snowballs into a major project or idea. Love it when that happens, seeing a concept grow and flurish. Friends have said I do draw fast. Depends on what I'm drawing I guess. I would love to be faster at drawing. I've tried to be able to draw something out on the fly cause sometimes it helps when you have a really complex idea in your head and your trying to draw it out before you loose the idea completely when drawing it.

Just curious though, as to exactly what blue drawing lead is? I know I could Google it, and it's probably very similar to what it sounds like it is. (It's blue, and it's made of lead.) But I'd like to find out exactly what makes it different?

It's a blue type lead, it's also used in drafting. It's perfect for sketching out a light image, then going back over with pencile or ink. The lead erases easily and doesn't leaves marks, unless you press hard. The fact it doesn't smear like regular lead is awsome. There is also other colored leads as well, such as red, yellow, and white I do believe. Colored lead is a new area for me, cause I've been using regualr lead so long. I'm estatic about having just blue lead.

The lead I am using is for mechanical penciles, which I use alot. I just love the way they handel. If your tip breaks, just a few on the fly clicks and your back to drawing. My favorite mechanical pencile right now is the Pentel SIDE FX.
This baby has a push button dispensner with rubber padded grip area, twist top refillable eraser, a handy clip for pocket storage, and opens up in the middle for easy drop in lead refill. They come standard in a two pack so you get your moneys worth.

A step down from that is the Pentel Twist Erase. Basically the same as the FX, but you click it like a pen to dispense lead. The Twist Erase came before the SIDE FX, and is what got me into mechanical penciles. Now, for me at least the FX has replaced the Twist Erase, but they are still great.

Even if you don't draw, these penciles are great for regular writing use. This coming from one who has habit of taking notes in class, and drawing ideas during lectures.

I like using mechanical pencils myself, though I find I break the lead more often because the lead is so thin compared to a normal pencil. Also, the eraser on mechanical pencils are usually pretty bad. So a regular eraser is definitely needed.

Thanks for explaining blue lead to me in detail . . . makes sense. A light blue lead used for doing a first draft, that's easy to erase when you make a mistake. Then you trace over it again with a normal pencil or marker. I think if I ever try my hand at drawing again, I'll definitely be needing that. I'll make tons of mistakes.

Have the same problems with lead breaking. The pentel pencils I draw with have good erasers. I still keep a regular Staedtler eraser and Mead putty eraser handy at all times.

I can't get enough of this blue lead. It's teaching me already to draw even lighter than with regualr lead so I can work out details even better. Already bought another case to have once I burn through the first batch. I've been stuck in front of a computer so much lately doing digital assignments that my drawing pad has been my main escape lately, when time permits that is. Already got another sketch that's gone far enough that I'm inking it. Just started sketching it yesterday. This one's a full page drawing.

Oy, I want to keep inking right now, but must study for Thursday's Psychology test. Time... my must it fly out the window all the time?

They are at all Walmart outlets, in the pencile section. If their out let me know. They come in metalic purple and grey.
