I really enjoy Perfect Dark Zero on the 360. It plays very much like the N64 version (dual function weaponry, simbots on multi-player, no jump, etc.). Some of the same weapons even come back (hooray for the laptop gun and Superdragon)!

It's not a next-gen looking game, but it plays beautifully and has excellent backgrounds and effects. And the X-Box Live work for it is just awesome! Dark-Ops is way fun and multi-player has many cool options and up to 32 people online at once per match!

But, Dead or Alive 4 is FRICKIN' BRILLIANT!!!! What an incredible game!!!! Graphically, it's the first game on the system (next to Call of Duty 2) that looks like a TRUE next-gen game! The backgrounds and fighting arenas are just gorgeous! Plus, you can play as a Spartan from Halo (complete with a stage straight out of Halo 2 and the theme music)!

Not only that, but the online play is fast and load times are only 4 to 5 seconds EVERY match!

However, the true killer app for X-Box 360 is X-Box Live! If you haven't played Geometry Wars Advanced, you're missing on of the coolest old-school play/next-gen effects games out there! Being able to download high-def online versions of the arcade classics Joust, Gauntlet, Smash TV, etc. is way cool! Playing online and chatting with a fellow Jouster is too fun! Downloading high-def trailers for games and movies is cool, along with demos for games so you can tell if you want to buy them or not. Great stuff!

But back onto the Atari 2600 - Combat. Period. GREATEST.GAME.EVER.ON.ATARI. 100 different modes and plenty of variations on battle!

And oh how I love the Super NES! I still have mine and yes, StarFox is one of the greats and I have the first stage theme music - Corneria - on my cell phone as a ringer! F-Zero is my favorite racing franchise ever, though! The first time I saw Mode-7 scaling, I freaked!

GOD, I love videogames!

Hey - sounds cool! Perfect Dark was awesome for the N64. One of my favorite N64 games - just under Ocarina of Time.

The PimpDragon Wrote:It's not a next-gen looking game...

No, it certainly isn't. Not from the spots I saw of it on TV.

I didn't know you could do that. Sounde very cool!

I don't know about best game ever, but it is definately one of the greatest! Oh how I wish I had someone to play it with me now on my Flashback 2.

Yep - the SNES ruled! I still have mine too, but it's packed away at the moment. It saw a LOT of action between 1991 and 1996.

The PimpDragon Wrote:GOD, I love videogames!

Yeah - me too! I only wish I had some freakin' time to play them! Damn day job! I wanna be a kid again! ALL games and no responsibility - those were the days!

Ok, Traahn - I squeezed in some time in Asteroids just after work today. And I did manage to flip the score! Woo hoo! I haven't done that in at least 25 years!

I was playing on mode 10 (or whatever they call it when you select which game number to play on) and with the difficulty setting on hard (so I get the little UFO's that shoot at you). I managed to get 134,510 before circuming to the insanity of the never-ending asteroid field... and because of my sore Atari-thumb. My rapid-fire action slowed way down toward the end.

Funny thing I had forgotten - the game pretty much starts over again at 100,000 points. It doesn't just flip the score - you end up in a simple and not so cluttered asteroid field after it flips, and with the larger UFO's again too. After about 10,000 points in to the flipped game, the background sound slowed down to where it starts off in the beginning too.

Man - Atari Asteroids is one addictive game! I only wish my thumb could handle it a little better. Funny - Atari-thumb didn't seem as bad when I was 12! Aging sucks. But in some ways, I can turn back time when I enjoy my Atari Flashback 2! I swear - it makes me feel like a kid again. Even at work today, I was all excited about getting home and spending a little time on it! It reminds me of being a kid in school, daydreaming about getting out of school to race home and play Atari. I'm enjoying this thing WAY too much!

Well, I'd give Combat the award for best game ever on the Atari because it had so many different play modes and it was a game you could pick up and play anytime.

Anyone could play it - even my mom (believe me, that's saying something)!

If you dug Perfect Dark on the N64, I'd be surprised if you didn't like it on the 360. It plays nearly identical (only now you can fire both regular and secondary at the same time) and is what I wanted it to be. Especially online. Coolness extreme!

Does anyone here still have (or ever had) a Sega Dreamcast? Talk about one of the all-time great systems! I dearly love my Dreamcast (still have it and break it out from time to time). Shenmue is still one of the greatest games ever! Those of you who played it will get this statement I always said for it: "If my father's killer shows up in the arcade, he better not play me in darts for I'll have my revenge!"

And Samba De Amigo! Screw Dance Dance Revolution! Give me the maracas and the on-screen monkey and it's on like Donkey Kong!

If anyone here has a 360, my GamerTag is The PimpDragon (and spelled EXACTLY like I just spelled it). Find me online and we'll rock it out!

I tried playing it with the wife, but she just doesn't get the whole steering/moving thing. She wants to move her stick in a direction, and then the tank or plane follow. Nope - she just couldn't get the turning right/left and move forward thing.. Man, I can't believe I have Combat and no one to play it with! Grrrr. Wish it had online mode!

Yes, I loved it on N64, even with the N64's limitations it still rocked! If the 360 version is as well done as the N64, I'm sure I'd enjoy it a lot. Especially the multiplayer modes which is something the N64 did not have... well, just the split screen thing, but not full screen multiplier as we know it. I rather enjoyed the missions and the interesting storyline of the game. The cut scenes were very cool too. Was great stuff!

LMAO!!!

I swear someone pulled that on me before I had my own Atari... or something similar at least. I got suckered in to many things when playing Atari with friends before I got my own. Didn't care much though - I was just happy to be playing Atari!

I think you'd really dig Perfect Dark Zero for the 360, Todd. If you know someone that has a 360, check it out! Multi-player with 32 people is frickin' crazy!

Space Channel 5 on the DC was a damn cool game! I actually have a metal SC5 lunchbox and Ulala stickers from a friend who worked at Babbage's!

And if you haven't played Grandia II on the DC, you are truly missing out on one of the greatest RPGs ever created!

Not to mention Phantasy Star Online (available for the X-Box and GameCube)!

And who could forget...

DAAAYYYYYTOOOOOOONAAAAAA!!!

Daytona USA! BEST.SOUNDTRACK.EVER!!!

"Blue, blue skies! Blue, blue skies I see!"

BWAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

God I love videogames!

And to those of you who love Atari's Adventure and love Homestar Runner, I leave you with this:

And there's nothing wrong with that!

If any of you have a Genesis (or Genesis emulator) you absolutely OWE it to yourself to play the greatest 2-player side-scroller ever!

GUNSTAR HEROES!!!!

Flippin' BRILLIANT game! From Treasure, the original creators of Contra, so you know it's all about runnin' and gunnin'!

I can't do it justice - just know that if you get a chance to play it you'll be hooked!where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

DAMN!

After enjoying many, many hours on my Atari Flashback 2, I decided I just HAD to hook up my old, vintage Atari VCS, with the simulated woodgrain front.

BUT I don't have anything to hook it up with! The old RF converter has two wires that need to be screwed in to the antenna screws on a TV. Well, I don't have a TV with those kind of connections anymore (not a color one anyway). No problem, right? I have a few of those adapters that convert the two wires to a coax cable male port. Unfortunately, I have no clue where to find them. I just killed almost two hours randomly searching in storage boxes I thought they might be in. But found nothing... except a bunch of old photographs of me and various girlfriends from the 80's. Holy crap did that bring back a lot of memories! And what a beautiful mullet I had too!

I know, I just need to go down to Radio Shack and pick up a more modern RF converter... but that's not going to happen tonight. Damn - and I SO wanted to play crappy Atari Pac Man on a REAL TV, like back in the day! And Defender, and Ms. Pac Man, and Raiders of the Lost Arc, and even ET! Grrrr!

*sigh* Sorry to hear that. High expectations, shot down. That's funny - I was going to suggest RadioShack until I read you had the same thougth. RadioShack sure is synonymous with adapters, wires and plugs, aren't they?

TheReelTodd wrote: Wow - 15 foot wide Atari games! Actually, modern games would rock a lot more than Atari games on a 15' screen, but that's still so cool!
Hehe, yeah. That's so funny. They had a PlayStation2, but I opted to play my Flashback on the big screen Go figure!

TheReelTodd wrote: I get Atari thumb really bad because its one of those games where you have to keep pressing the fire button rapidly.
That's too bad... what a pain to have to deal with.

I wasn't sure either, until I read the Flashback2 manual and read how to beat it. You need to collect 32 treasures within the 20 minutes. I loved Pitfall2 for the Commodore 64!

PS: Thanks for the Pitfall! advice, TheReelTodd. I never knew about the lower areas!

TheReelTodd wrote: Perfect Dark was awesome for the N64. One of my favorite N64 games - just under Ocarina of Time.

I enjoyed Ocarina of Time, but liked Turok and GoldenEye much better for some reason.

WELL DONE!!! Isn't that a great feeling? How cool! I notice that version of asteroids isn't exactly how I remember it being, though. I remember solid colored asteroids, rather than just the perimeter of them colored. I wonder why they Flashback2 asteroids aren't filled-in...

I have a Sega Dreamcast. It's a shame they didn't have much support by game development companies. There were a couple cool games on it. I hear it's now a popular unit for hacking into. Not sure what all can be done on it, but sounds interesting.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Yep - great feeling! I was very proud of myself. And along the way, it was really funny how serious I was about the game - I haven't put that much effort in to game play in so many years. I was playing as if my life depended on it!

And the look of Asteroids was changed for some reason. I think they wanted it to look a tad more like the arcade Asteroids so the changed the solid objects to outlines like the arcade version. I would have rather had the original Atari Asteroids also, but the game play seemed dead on, so I didn't mind much.

I found something to help out with Pitfall a bit. Do not click this link if you really want to spend time figuring out the boards and which tunnels to take on your own. This is the best chart of the game I've ever seen.

http://members.tripod.com/~PitfallHarry/MapRoom/PitfallMap.html
I looked at it closely, and then played the game, but couldn't remember much more than the first couple of tunnel routes. I just HAVE to solve the game. Never did as a kid, so I fee like I have to do it now. Just so damn curious if anything happens. It probably just ends (like freezes)... or even worse - it just keeps going until the timer runs out! Oh well - whatever. I must experience it for myself!

Oh - and before anyone who actually knows what happens at the end - please do not post it, or at least use the spoiler tags if you do. I just want to find out for myself on this one.

I'm peeved. My JAKKS Atari joystick version of Adventure has two major flaws:

1) The "dot" is actually visable in the Black Castle.
2) You're only rewarded with "TEXT?" when you use the dot.

wtf??!

Cough up $30.00 for an Atari Flashback 2, and enjoy the REAL Adventure. It plays EXACTLY like the original one, because it is the original game code running on an actual Atari. The hardware of the original Atari has been put all on an "Atari on a chip" chip. The game looks, sounds, and plays exactly like the original. No reprogrammed ports here!

Come on - get a Flashback 2 and join Traahn and myself in this old-school addiction! I guarantee you'll find yourself amazingly glued to your TV, playing Atari, just like you probably did 25 years ago!

I just played another game of Asteroids... though I only got in the 80,000's. I was doing so good and then I got Atari-thumb and started sucking big time. My extra lives evaporated in a matter of a few minutes. It was really sad.

Ah yes.. I remember Atari-Thumb syndrome. I used to get it a lot on my left thumb, whereas now, with today's controlers (with analog sticks) I get it in my right thumb.

However the left thumb problem has cropped back up with the PSP's poorly positioned analog stick. It's a little too low on the PSP for me to be able to use it for very long before my thumb starts to hurt.

Grrrr!

I just accidentally edited your post instead of replying to it, Boingo_Buzzard. Then I went back and tried to recreate it from the quotes I used from it. So if you look at it and it seems like something is missing there - that was because of my stupidity. The two buttons are right next to each other. Sorry about that.

Anyway, here's what I had tried to reply:

Boingo_Buzzard Wrote:Ah yes.. I remember Atari-Thumb syndrome. I used to get it a lot on my left thumb, whereas now, with today's controlers (with analog sticks) I get it in my right thumb.

Generally speaking, I don't get too cramped up with today's modern controllers. Ever since the NES, I've usually settled in to a certain way of holding each controller that optimizes game playability and comfort. Actually, since the days of the N64 and Playstation, there's really only one way to hold most modern controllers.

Getting Atari-thumb was kind of part of the whole reliving childhood gaming at first, but then it just kills the hand. It's hard to rapid-fire the fire button while supporting the controller with the same hand the way you do. Still, it is fun to play those old games on an actual Atari controller.

Boingo_Buzzard Wrote:However the left thumb problem has cropped back up with the PSP's poorly positioned analog stick. It's a little too low on the PSP for me to be able to use it for very long before my thumb starts to hurt.

I guess every controller has its strengths and weaknesses. What fits great for one player, cramps another.

I can't wait until the days on no longer using a controller! I just hope I'm still young enough to enjoy the experience once that technology is in consumer use.
