It's Madness, I tells ya.
I dedicate about 6 to 8 hours a week to video games. A lot, I know... but I loves 'em.
Anyway, I am currently in the middle of Medievil for the PSP, which is taking me a lot longer than I thought it would. Great game.
So on Thursday, Shadow of the Colossus comes out which I am DEFINATELY getting.
However, the Nightmare Before Christmas game is also out now.... as well as Grand Theft Auto for the PSP at the end of this month.
Looks like I need to kick my video game time up a notch
Anyone played the NMBC game yet?

I'm an ultra gamer and I'm usually broke...
I'm also strickly a PC gamer, so I build my Monster Computers to play the hottest PC games out on the market.
But now since my funs have been drained, I can only afford the buget bins at EB for a bit. This sucks cause I'm looking forward to getting Battlefront 2.
The game that I am really excited about getting in the future is Unreal Tournament 2007 (UT2K7)... and just about anything made from the U3 engine.
But I'm an old school gamer to. That is why I love emulation so much. I play my Nintendo, Genesis, TG16, Atari2600, Coleco, Commodore64, and Amiga games all the time. Not to mention my large collection of MAME games...
I'm not really into hand helds. For me, I would rather get a lab top but thats just me.
One PSP question: I've seen a PSP spiderman 2 movie and I was impressed how clear it was on the PSP screen, but since it's not really compatable with DVD players I don't think they will catch on. I'll buy a DVD and play it on my main computer or if I'm traveling, on a lab top. And, if I choose, on my DVD player but that's because it's compatable. So do you guys think that PSP movies will sell well?
Wow... what a long post... Sorry about that guys.. |

Well I have kind of lost that gamer in me personally. Call me a really old nerd of things. I'm more into Machines that are not the standard machines that you would have at home like Sparcstations, Nextstation, and I'm going to try and get an Ultra 5 station soon. and get my sparcs running together over here. and maybe just maybe if I can get 2 proliants from work I'll be happy camper./

End of line

VROOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!
To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

I still used to play video games all the time, up until a few years ago. Now, I still play them . . . but not that often any more. I pick and choose my titles carefully, because I don't have a lot of time to spend on them.
And I'm pretty much a PC gamer. Don't care about consoles any more. (The only reason I have an Xbox is because certain titles I was looking forward to, were Xbox only . . . no PC version. Grr. )
I also used to go to the arcades a lot, but not lately. I have great memories of playing on arcade cabs. You just can't replicate that experience at home. (MAME is about as close as you can get, but it's just not the same.)
The only new thing I might be interested in, is a handheld system. Maybe a GP2X. Portable emulation heaven.

I read someplace that last year PSP UMD's accounted for 1% of the overall video market for sales.
1%!!???? If you think about that, that is a MAJOR chunk out of the video market and a huge amount of revenue.
When the PSP first launched there were a few movie titles... now, however, there are a ton of video titles. I wish they were as forthcoming with games as they are with movies.
It's all now up to Sony. They have had media cliffhangers at their fingertips before (VHS vs. Beta), and have totally screwed it up.
The PSP has been at the forefront of user homebrew-type programming which Sony has tried to squash at every turn, not realizing the explosive potential this could give them.
IMHO, Sony is too narrow minded and too profit driven to see beyond what they can get from it NOW. 1% may be good, but they want 100%. They won’t improve things, just expect you to buy more.
All in all here's my synopsis: Sony has been handed a gold mine. They'll just dig up as much as they can and leave the rest to rot.
And yes, I have a PSP

I agree... 1% really is a large chunk when you think about it, plus the PSP is still considered a brand new product.
I also agree that Sony does have ego problems (well, not your words). If sony did allow the PSP to be more media friendly (or hackable but thats not really the word I'm looking for) then I may even be tempted to buy one. It's got a really nice design and is convenient to carry around.
It would be cool to have a hand-held PC in the form of a PSP but isn't nessasarly a PDA.
One thing that really gets me is that with all of our advanceing technology, no one has came up with a good enough battery with a life of about 10 hours. I know that batteries are a different tech and I know there is a different science to it but still. Perhaps I should do an online research.
Anyways, I see the ups and downs in Sony's gaming products. But Sony is still a top player in the concel market with the X-box following close behind. It reminds me of the NES Vs. Genesis days. I sided with the Genesis back then and it was my last concel. I sold it about the time Sonic was first released. Then I bought an Amiga. I miss that computer.
Sorry for the poor spelling.

Damn! That's a LOT of gaming! I'm a big fan of games as well. I tend to enjoy adventure games or action/adventure games the most. BUT I hardly ever have time for them. I bet I only squeeze in about an hour of gaming each week. The last new game I bought was Metroid Prime II, and TRON 2.0 before that.
If I had more time, I'd LOVE to loose myself in a good game more often. There just isn't enough time in my day though. Bummer.

I saw a commercial for it the other day - looks REALLY cool! BUT will it have that great feel and game play to it? I'll probably never know - I only have this old, slow PC and a Game Cube... that collects a lot of dust these days. And I don't think NMBC will be released for either.
Funny... now I got the "This is Halloween, this is Halloween..." song playing in my head. Great film - haven't seen it in several years though.

It got a bad review on gamespot.com, but they also gave a bad review to Medievil : Resurrection and I love that. I guess we'll see.
