As CEO's go, he's got to be easily replaced. As Disney goes, what a far cry Eisner was from Walt. Dear Lord, the company badly needs another Walt, even 1/10 his creative vision and capacity to love the company, it's image and work. Eisner might have been a good choice for a textile corporation CEO or a McDonald’s regional manager, but Disney? No.
I won’t go so far as to say good riddance, but dern close. Disney cannot afford another Eisner, at all.

I'm concerned that whoever replaces him will be just as lame as he was.
Like you said, Jedi. Eisner may have known how to run a business and get bottom line results, but creatively he was a big fat zero. I don't think Walt would be too happy to know what was happening to his company these days, if he was still alive.

I hope who ever they get next can repair the damage that's been done. I also hope they revitalize the studios and start rolling out new ideas and animation, even experimental stuff would be great. It's time to let the artists start dreaming again Disney.

Yes, DITTO!
But realistically, what are the chances Disney will allow any of that to happen? Disney has become a play it safe, cookie cutter outfit... more of less. Oh never mind. I tend to get irritated when I get in to thinking about all that is wrong with companies like this. The bottom line is financial, period. Creativity, innovation, and experimental are things that don't mean squat when it comes to making a safe, tried-and-true profit.
Well, perhaps they'll improve in the years to come.
First thing I'd like to see is them sell the TRON rights to Mr. Lisberger. That won't happen, but it would be cool.

Unless there's suddenly a merchandising interest/opportunity I doubt it.

Has anyone seen the "Family Guy" Movie about Stewie?
The Walt Disney scene made Coke come out of my nose!
I won't say what he says, but it's totally wrong and totally funny!

No, how is it? Sometimes animated shows don't translate well into movie-length movies. South Park was definately an exception to that.

I have a bootleg of the film and it's great. Laughed my ass off. I bought a UMD copy for my PSP and ended up with the right package, but instead of the film, I got The Freakin' Sweet Collection which isn't even supposed to be on UMD at this point. I have ordered a second copy so I can get the right movie, and Deep Discount DVD is letting me keep the erroneous disc as long as I pay for the second one too. Freaking sweet!
Anyway, I highly recommend the Stewie Griffin movie. Be prepared for the "coinpurse" scene. Any liquid you may be drinking will come out of your nose. DaveTRON

An update on Eisner. He's severed all ties with Disney.
Eisner gone for good
And here's some info about his replacement.
Robert Iger
Don't know what to think of him. He used to work at ABC, before Disney took over the network.

Ya know, in reading this section, I should point something out to all of you. There might not be a Disney if it were not for Michael Eisner.
If you take out the latter years of his term and focus on the first ten years, they were spent rebuilding a company that was nearly taken over and sold off for spare parts.
While he certainly didn't maintain the momentum of the first 10 years in the last 10, he was certainly a key piece in the rebuilding of Disney as one of the key studios in the business.
Give him the credit he is due for that. A lot of his problem has been replacing key people like Wells, Katzenburg and a few others. He's not been very good at finding creative people to take their roles.
One other point I will make. Roy Disney is a WAD! Why do people give him ANY credit for Disney as it stands today? He has done nothing for that company other than sow dissention and strife. Name for me one thing that he's actually done that was good for the company? Please, because there isn't one. And don't say his "Save Disney" campaign, because that was not good for Disney in any way.
Just my .02. the guy didn't finish well, but that wasn't entirely his fault. He did bring us a lot of good things in the 80's and 90's with his team at that time. Try to remember that.
I just hope Iger find a way to restore that level to Disney. If he can get PIXAR back in the fold, I think he can do it.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill onlineabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

What would've happened to the Tron rights if Disney had gone under some time after Tron was made? Would a different studio have purchased them?
I ask because I can't imagine all of Disney's intellectual properties just dying if they went under; so I'm really curious. I guess some takeover company would've gotten the rights?
In some respects (at least for the longevity of Tron), maybe it would've been a good thing if Disney had gone under in the late 80s or early 90s. Maybe the new company would've seen some potential in Tron and pushed it more/better than Disney has?
Of course, this is all just rambling 'what ifs'. We'll never know!
I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^ |
