I just watched the "Best Picture Of The Year" for 2005, and it's the worst film I have ever seen.

I agree - Oscars are indeed worthless.

I'll take it a step further though - I tend to see pretty much all popular awards shows as bogus. Sure, there are some relevant winners in each of them, but for the most part, the seem to me to be just a big excuse for a bunch of "stars" to wear overpriced cloths, rent jewelry that no man could ever afford to buy his wife, and be seen with the in crowd of the entertainment business.

Awards shows look like marketing tools aimed at the industry to me. I really dislike them. They have absolutely no entertainment value to me. Sadly, my wife HAS to watch EVERY SINGLE ONE of them!

Ok, I guess it's all a matter of taste. But I really do not care for them... though I do admit there is one small portion of them I do dig (though I rarely catch it). I do enjoy visual FX categories, but that is because I personally find that kind of thing very interesting. Jeez - do they even still award visual FX anymore? It was such a teeny portion of the show many yeas ago, when I would actually try and watch a little bit of the awards shows here and there.

Oh, one more thing - tell me this doesn't run rampant at awards shows - "and the best award goes to... opens envelope - the Emperor's new cloths! " ** audience roars with applause ** Perhaps that is what happened with the best picture of the year for 2005? I hear things like this all the time from a producer friend of mine. Every film festival he attends, the highest praise always goes to films that generally make no sense, and that are often void of any good filmmaking technique. Just a thought.

I heard a funny story about Sharon Stone being "loaned" a half million dollar necklace to wear to the Oscars, and then refusing to give it back when they came for it .

Yeah Sharon, they can afford to GIVE you a 1/2 million dollar necklace. *sheesh*

I also saw something about child actors, and the kid from Kramer Vs. Kramer was up for an Oscar against some old man. And the old man took him aside and said "No offence kid, but I am an old, dying, man. You have no chance."

I think that's what happened with Million Dollar Baby.... just a kind of sentimental "Aww... we love Clint"... gesture.

But seriously. If you haven't seen it, DON'T. It is totally over the top Schamltz of the worst kind. Only rent and watch this if you enjoy shows on the Lifetime Channel or are a big Oprah fan. Then get out the box of tissues and prepare for a big boo-hoo fest.

I remember in Creative Writing class some person getting TORN APART for writing schmaltz. And look, this thing wins best picture!!!

In 1982 Gandhi beat ET for Best Picture. That says it all as far as I'm concerned.

Tori Wroteid Apocalypse Now win any awards?? As far as I know, it didn't, and it's probaly the best movie ever (Next to Tron..) It TOTALY deserves, like, a million awards! (Sorry, I just watched this movie for the first time recently...finaly got myself to watch it...)

Did you know that one of the possible stories for TRON 2 is known as the 'Col. Kurtz' story? Flynn has gone 'up-river' in the computer. It's a great story. Someday I hope we see it on the screen. Maybe someday we can leak it here.

I can't remember what, but SOMETHING kept me from watching it when it came out.

One of the worst movies ever isn't realy even a movie. (It was made for TV, but some friends of mine and I rented it because it looked terrible) is 10.5! DON'T RENT IT!!! IT'S EVIL AND LONG!!
