Hey, Dave....
I am a little curious as that what you're getting at here. I know you guys can see what IP addresses we post from, but is there something that then allows you to see what pages we have visited in the past or what we have looked at on the web? Maybe I am just misinterpreting this whole "Word Game" thing.

I doubt it - that's invasion of privacy, right?

TRON-Sector administrators have the ability not only to log your IP address, but also to track your web movements. Not only here, but ALSO outside of TRON-Sector. In addition to that, we can tell where you are physically at any time. One of the things we admins just LOVE chatting about amongst ourselves, is the bathroom logs. Yes, we know when you're going to the bathroom, and what number you're doing in there.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Just to put aside any form of paranoia that might arise from the last couple of posts - all IPs are logged. This is standard on pretty much any forum. And as many of you know, there are the administrator forums, where we can discuss problem posts/users, etc. I'm happy to say there is little action taking place in that particular admin forum. For the most part, the programs of TRON-Sector behave themselves exceptionally.
As far as logs that track who's been where and for how long, I'm sure they exist. Every web server has built-in logging abilities that can be used to generate reports that can display an entire path of any user's activity on the website. Again, this is standard on EVERY web server, period. ALL websites have extensive logs of who was where and for how long. If it bothers anyone that much, then they had better stay off the internet because every move anyone makes is logged somewhere. As far as I know, the only one who has access to these particular logs here at TRON-Sector is Auric.
Now to put to rest the CalvinSpiff II and SoniCalvin mystery - I've done a little research. The IPs for these two usernames are registered to two very different geographical locations - as in separated by the great pond. Is it possible that these IPs are falsified? You bet! It's not that hard to do for anyone who's got the tools and has learned how to do so. There are dozens of ways to spoof your IP, or use a remote drone computer as a false-face, etc.
At this point, it appears that these are two different people in two different locations of the planet. The use of "puppets" is not acceptable practice here at TRON-Sector. But if one user should decide to shed one username and begin a new one, that is his/her option to do so.
DaveTRON was only following up on what I'm sure he thought was yet another incarnation of the former CalvinSpiff. I'm certain that is the nature of the "word games". You have to admit - another "Calvin", taking their name from the popular Calvin and Hobbs cartoon strip, who chose the exact same pre-made avatar as the previous "Calvin" is a bit odd. But I have no reason to believe there is any malice going on here, and think DaveTRON has come to the same conclusion.

Thanks Todd. I am not overly paranoid by nature, but DaveTron's posts left me wondering exactly what he was getting at... I dunno... maybe that kind of thing is best left to PM's in the future.

I owe an explaination to all of you on why I had such a strong feeling about SoniCalvin being duplicitous. (And still do, but I'm putting that aside for now.)
1. CalvinSpiff changed to CalvinSpiff II after a period of time and was posting as both IDs for a while. CalvinSpiff II and SoniCalvin have not posted at the same time that I have seen, but other factors are involved. The first being IP addresses:
CalvinSpiff
81.153.152.45
81.153.153.30
81.129.125.137
81.129.112.181
81.156.19.205
81.155.52.140
217.44.20.63
217.44.20.53
CalvinSpiff II
217.44.20.3
86.140.12.255
86.137.222.204
81.153.123.113
86.137.217.157
SoniCalvin - First post: 3/14/2006 8:25:38 PM
207.112.14.63 (Static IP it appears - All of his posts are from this IP)
The IPs for the first two Calvins above share a similar pool. They are both from the same geographic region and service in the UK, making it highly likely that they are one in the same person (Not to mention the names being the same).
The first Calvin change came in this forum after Calvin got a warning from me.
CalvinSpiff and CalvinSpiff II both posted, but two months apart, in a dead topic. CalvinSpiff posted from IP address 81.156.19.205 at 10/20/2004 12:44:19 PM and CalvinSpiff II posted from 217.44.20.3 at 12/23/2004 4:34:42 AM. Looks like he was checking his old posts. This is one of CalvinSpiff's traits. He likes to return to the scene in a different guise. He tends towards the sames forums, which is not entirely unusual since we all do that, but his are more specific like the Status Bar and Game Grid. SoniCalvin has only posted in two places so far and doesn't meet this standard.
SoniCalvin is also coming from Canada, not the UK. This blows a hole in my theory, but doesn't kill it.
2. The icon thing. Two (I know it's not three based on the IP thing) completely different people, both Calvin and Hobbes fans and TRON fans who come onto a TRON fan site and use a Calvin and Hobbes themed name instead of a TRON themed name AND choose the same exact icon? One of the last of over 100 icons! What are the odds of that? Not to mention that all three examples are Calvin derivations, not Hobbes.
Here's another interesting factoid. CalvinSpiff's icon is hosted here: http://geocities.com/tr3a_blackmanta/author/picpak018.gif and is not one of the icons you can pick from the main site, which is a Calvin and Hobbes fan site.
SoniCalvin has a DeviantArt site here: http://sonicalvin.deviantart.com/scraps/ that features this icon which is a cropped version of one from the same place as CalvinSpiff's. Coincidence? Maybe, but maybe not!
3. The writing style. Here are some choice quotes from each of these three users, the first two assumed to be the same person.
CalvinSpiff
Profile Quote: "In my opinion, television validates existence."
"Spaceman Spiff... Brit-Tron fighting for TRON."
CalvinSpiff II
Profile Quote: "This... is... nothing. Yeah, we're gonna die."
Profile Comment: "'Get Back! Or I'll shoot you all like dogs!'"
"I'm coming for you, people! You thought you'd defeated me, but I'm still here! I will kill you all! MWAHAHAH *cough wheeze* HAHAHA *hack cough* argh."
SoniCalvin
Profile Quote: "I'm not insane. I just live for stopping bad programs from taking control of the system!"
"Okay... ummm.... uhhh.... greetings, party people in the place to be! I am called SoniCalvin! Hand over all your moneys in a paper DaveTRON

Hey Iwas just doing some back trackingfor curiousity on 207.112.14.63 when you are mentioning about it there. ANd right now as I can see it as you say it is a static IP to a machine locate in Canada right in the next province to where I live over here. I do agree with Todd that anyone can spoof off of another IP unless the user of that computer does not know about it. And I just want to make sure about this without sounding like I'm pointing a finger at someone here or there. Do we really know if he's originating from the UK or from Canada. Or Spoofing off of either place.
The only way I could think of is by asking or talking to the proper people about this that deals more into it than you or I do.

Does it matter? Like DaveTRON said, we're probably best to leave the topic now and believe who SoniCalvin says he is. Otherwise, no one's going to get anywhere...

Yes, let it go. It's my dementia, it doesn't need to be a group problem.
It's not like there was a problem to begin with.
I just like to know what the source of the smell is when I smell something. That's all.

Okay okay okay okay okay. You wanna know why I write with the "..." and the "!"? Too much Strong Bad E-mails can do that to you.
And as for my passion with C&H, it started when I was very young. My dad would read the series to me, and those comic books were, in fact, the very things that helped me to read.
And concerning my deviantART site... I can't seem to access ANYTHING deviantART, for some reason.
