well it's as much a Hi to everyone as it is a general descusion about tron - assuming i can keep my mind on track.

Well hi all, My names Dave, But ya can call me Pungent as someone else seems to have Yoinked the title "Dave" here. anyway. I have always been facinated with Tron, and all things Tron. being born in 1982 i never had a chance to see it in a theatre, but it did come out on video about the time my conciousness kicked in. anyway, i think i must have watched that movie between 1 and 10 times a week every week untill i was atleast 7. growing up i was facinated with tron, and it led me into the world of computers. Not the digital world, just the world of hardware and software. by about age 4 i knew how to navigate and operate DOS about as well as my father - who was a computer Programer.
around age 4 my father was removed from the household and that more or less trunkated my intrest in programing for atleast 13 years, but Tron still had a place with me. anytime i got ahold of a *cool* looking toy or helmet, in my mind it was a Tron helmet and i think every frisbee up through juinor highschool i threw the way Tron threw his disk in the sceen where he defeets Sark.

well anyway, In recent years i have finaly entered collage and started studing Multimedia Graphic Design - went in as Comp-Sci but truthfully it's just boring, repetitive, and lacks the creativity you would think it allowed. i find that alot of my Work has been strongly influinced by Tron, and Syd Mead (Thanks Syd).

If the name looks familiar, it's becouse i worked on the UTRON mod as part of the Modeling team. i made the Virii that was never used... but to be honest that stuff was all poorly done as i had no training with the software. just ambition, and devotion. i only wish(ed) i could share what tron was for me with my peers who just didn't (and still don't) get it.

As for Tron 2.0 - the Game:

let me tell you, i wanted that game the moment i saw conceptual art for it... but i was broke and couldn't afford it and i must have begged my mother over the phone (at 20 years old*chuckle) for months. i recieved Tron 2.0 on april 22 as a Birthday present, and had it beaten within a week. i absolutly Loved the gaming experiance.

sadly, i will never know why a game like Grand Theft Auto ever sold more copies then 2.0 but it's possible that Tron 2.0 just didn't appeal to the teen who just wants to blow off some steam by brutaly killing somethin... tho i loved the De-rez animations.

told ya, i got off track... anyway, i just thought i would say Hi all, and try to give an idea of how something as simple and fun as tron can influence a person.

However. i have no Shrine to tron, other then a mental one. it simply has a special place in my mind, and not to be old fasioned... but my heart as well.

Welcome Dave. How exactly does one 'yoink' something? I've been DaveTRON since 1982 when I first played the Arcade game. I think I am the only active Dave (with it in my nym) on the site right now. You could be TRONDave, or DigiDave or something like that!

I just don't want to be known as a yoinker!

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

Welcome. Enjoy your stay here at the sector. Do you have any picture of the Virii that you modeled? I'd like to see it.

Welcome Ogre... You can tell our minds wander a bit also

sadly, i will never know why a game like Grand Theft Auto ever sold more copies then 2.0 but it's possible that Tron 2.0 just didn't appeal to the teen who just wants to blow off some steam by brutaly killing somethin...

Oh man. See, I loved Grand Theft Auto III and it's one of my all time favortie games, and I am FAR removed from a teenager. I won't be ballsy enough to say in a Tron forum that it was better than Tron 2.0..... but very very very different. GTA wasn't just about the violence. You could CHOSE to do the violence most of the time (except on missions). It was about the immersion in the landscape and being able to explore every little nook and cranny. I hate when people judge that game just on the violence level.
Now... we're talking GTA III and Vice City right? San Andreas took a turn in a direction I wasn't overly interested in so I never got that one.

told ya, i got off track... anyway, i just thought i would say Hi all, and try to give an idea of how something as simple and fun as tron can influence a person.

Welcome Aboard!

alright, alright i admit it... Sorry about callin you a yoinker Dave =) i could tell from your posts how devoted to tron you are and i just was making a joke. i was sure everybody here must have known DaveTRON, and i was just bein a twit for the fun of it lol.

and my GTA refrence was aimed at GTA:SA, but don't get me wrong.... The gameplay i never had any problems with. the non-linier freedom of a game can be a huge thing. but one of the most important things about a game is infact it's storyline. and i just felt that the game maker had gone in a direction with the story that i thought was poor. Tho i just had a strange thought... a GTA style game in the ghostbusters universe. don't ask where that came from, i guess my Dr. Pepper is possessed. anyway, and my other peeve with GTA isn't GTA's fault...
The game rating system...
most parents don't even know it exists... or care about it if they do. i'll admit that i hang out in EB for hours at a time, and time and time again a child will bring up GTA and other Rated M games and say "Mommy mommy, i want this one." and mommy checks out without a second thought. if the employes didn't say, "Hey you idiot! this isn't a kids game." well truthfully it's just, "You know this is rated M for Mature?" and the parents get a confused look on their face and ask what M means. anyway, 25% of them still buy it anyway, and the kid has the game opened within 10 feet of the door.
and as far as GTA:SA getting pulled off the shelves... i laugh that the reason for it never had anything to do with extreeme violence, of Bad influences on children (well maybe sortof) it happened becouse some third party modder developed a Sex mod... oh dear lord no (sarcasm) really, what did you expect... anyway, as far as i know you can not apply a mod of this type to a PS2 game, and yet they pulled the ps2 versions off the shelf as well as the others.

well... the only known surviving picture of my model can be found at

http://206.169.164.158/utron/v2/modules/Gallery/albums/wallpaper_art/aaf.jpghar har, damn i gave that female virii alittle extra... in truth i remember having too get them that large just so they looked somewhat properly shapped, but i think that puts laracroft to shame...

the virii are the two green guys to the sides. the guy in the center was something i had been toying with modeled after some of the tron conceptual art. ofcourse you can see the reco and a sad excuse for a solar sailor, those are mine as well. but i suppose everything for unreal tournament looked bad, so looking back on it, i guess i didn't do all that bad... i just wish my school offered a class in 3d modeling. i am sure that with some guidence i could do much better.

OK, yeah I agree with you there. I probably never will play GTA: San Andreas for that very reason. *sigh*. That's OK though we'll get to revisit Liberty City on the PSP in about a month. The guys from GTA III and Vice City had "style".

anyway, 25% of them still buy it anyway, and the kid has the game opened within 10 feet of the door.

Yes, that is wrong. The games are not for kids. That's for sure. Tron is much better suited for younger gamers.

it happened becouse some third party modder developed a Sex mod... oh dear lord no (sarcasm)

Yeah, I heard about that. Crazy. Sex is really a lot more taboo in the entertainment world than violence. Hell, we see violence on the six o clock news, but SEX?? *slaps face*

Just a helpful hint. You can make active links for your urls by using the brackets "[" and "]" and putting in "url" with a closing "/url"

for example:

http://206.169.164.158/utron/v2/modules/Gallery/albums/wallpaper_art/aaf.jpg
Quote me, or look at the source to see how that was done. You can do that with images too by using the img tags instead of url.

(That was a quote from Tron, in case you didn't catch that. )

I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^
