Movies that made me respect some actors I hate...

on Tuesday, July, 26, 2005 6:04 PM
Ok. I was realizing that there are only THREE times I have EVER liked Tom Cruise in anything.
1.Minority Report
2.Vanilla Sky
3.War of the Worlds

And only ONE time that I actually payed attention to Jim Carey (And I think I spelled his name wrong), and that was in Eternial Sunshine.

Jim Carey needs to do more movies where he acts like a normal person and isn't annoyingly....annoying.

Tom Cruise needs to stop being in movies that make him look cool. I like it when he plays people that are either normal, or, at least interesting.

That's really all I wanted to say...

I liked Cruise in Collateral because it wasn't his normal role. He stretched a lot for that part. He was also excellent as Lestat in Interview With A Vampire. I have to go back to Jerry Maguire and Risky Business too. Great films. I've always liked Tom's films with the exception of Eyes Wide Shut and Days of Thunder.

Jim Carey is a good clown. I'm not as thrilled with his serious work. I loved The Truman Show and The Majestic. I watch Liar Liar if I am sick and it's actually on TV (I never stoop to getting out my DVD of it).

Has Jim Carey done more serious movies than I am aware of?!

I just for some reason, don't like the fact that in his comedy, he acts completely insane, is all.. I guess it's good for some people, but I don't understand the humor in it...

As much as I hate to admit it, I thought Dumb and Dumber was pretty damned funny.

Carrey's performance in Man on the Moon should have garnered him an Oscar - period.

He frickin' WAS Andy Kaufman. It was disturbing how spot on he was in that film.

He should have gotten at least a nomination for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

And Tori, what about Rain Man? Cruise is perfect in that film! As is Dustin Hoffman!

Jim Carey is one of my favourite actors [besides Samuel L Jackson] the clown Carey always makes me laugh, and his serious films [not sure how many there are, i've only seen "the Truman Show"] are petty good as well.

as for Dumb and Dumber, the only thing i found really funny there was the joke about crossing a bulldog with a shitsu [am i allowed to say shitsu on here?]abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

You haven't seen RAIN MAN??!! :O

You MUST!!!

Dustin Hoffman's performance alone is worth the price of admission, but Tom Cruise really works as the cynical straight man of the piece.

HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended!

I really can't think of many movies that made me respect actors I *hate*. I have never been a big Brad Pitt fan but absolutely loved him and his character in 12 Monkeys.

Not really all that great big of a fan of Leonardo Di Caprio, but he sure was good in The Aviator.

I think I have liked Nicholas Cage less over the years. After Raising Arizona (one of my all time favorite films) he seemed to slide...

John Goodman was never a big favorite of mine, however I really like him now.

I don't *hate* many actors/actresses. Probably David Arquette is the closest I come to *hate*

I'm sure I'll think of more....

....the only Brad Pitt movies I like are 12 Monkeys and Fight Club (and is that REALLY concidered to be a Brad Pitt movie?), which I thought was going to be horribly boring, but ended with me having a headache from trying to figure out what was happening...

You didn't dig Seven or Ocean's 11?

What about True Romance? Brad Pitt is frickin' hysterical as the stoner, Floyd!

Well, I liked the films, but not Brad in them so much. He was just "Brad" in them. Kinda like Katie Holmes is always "Katie Holmes". Know what I mean?

Haven't seen True Romance.

DUUUUUUUUDE!!!

You MUST see True Romance! It has a killer 2-disc set with full commentary by Quentin Tarantino, who wrote the screenplay!

It's the only film, save for From Dusk Til Dawn, that Quentin's done a commentary for and it's great!

He was very happy with how the film turned out - unlike what happened to his script for Natural Born Killers, which he hated.

Pitt has a minor role, but what a role it is!

He's too funny and steals the scenes he's in!

Also, I finally watched Collateral yesterday - Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx are ROCKIN' good in that film! Both play characters VERY different from type and play them very well. Highly recommended!

Re: Movies that made me respect some actors I hate

What has "respect" got to do with it? Either you enjoyed the fictional role the actor played or not. Where's the need to project an emotion upon them the likes of "respect" that should be reserved for situations more personally endering than to an over-payed, disjointed from the common man, make-believe professional?

I can "enjoy" actor's so-called "work", but I'll stick with my respect being issued to more deserving professionals, such as police officers, fire fighters, teachers, heck even sewer workers. They provide a service I need more than any actor.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Well, Jedi Unit, as an ACTOR I find people in the profession whose work I RESPECT. People who I take inspiration from when I'm developing a character for a play or film.

So, don't go all "high and mighty" over folks on here for respecting an actor's work. I have mad respect for firefighters, police officers, doctors and such.

But I'll tell you this - I've met representatives from each of those professions who were COMPLETE PRICKS, not worthy of your respect because of how they act due to their position in society.

I didn't slag actors. I merely expressed my opinion about how excessively willing the public is about respecting that which gets a disproportionately high amount of respect over those who clearly deserve more. My bag is really not with acting, or actors as a profession, but what I view as pathetic celebrity idol-worship, which is the flower of misplaced respect.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion
