TRON on UMD disc for the Sony PSP comes out on Tuesday in the US!

You know, THIS alone almost makes me want to buy a PSP. I LOVE big screen presentations... but for some reason, I think it would be cooler than anything to see a high-quality version of TRON on a portable device like this... that also just happens to play awesome games too!

I found a display case at Software Etc. today. There will be deleted scenes as extras, introduced by Bruce Boxleitner.

Also some concept drawings of Lightcycles.

I picked up my Tron UMD today from Best Buy (Software Etc. didn't get it in today)

I have the PSP all charged up and ready to go at home, and will watch it tonight.

Also, Dave, the UMD case is different from the display box that was on the shelf at Software Etc. That may be a collectible, since it's not the actual UMD case.

I played most of the UMD tonight. I am really happy with the video and sound quality! It's awesome to have the movie playing right there in the palm of your hand.

I was also impressed with the extra features, although I have seen them before. They're the extended opening with the text at the beginning, the love scene and also the lightcycle scene with the music put in.

They also had clips from Steven Lisberger and Bruce Boxleitner.... I wonder if they got any residuals from the PSP release

Considering my only other PSP UMD movie I own, Hellboy, had NO extra features, I think this was pretty cool.

Overall I think the strong points though are film quality and sound. Really top notch! A+

Oh and while I'm asking questions, does anyone here know much about this UMD format? Is this solely for the PSP or are there soon to be other UMD players out there? Is this on track to replace DVDs?

For now, I believe it to be a Sony proprietary media format. I could not find anything on the net that said there were any other players that play this format or any plans to have existing technoloy integrate it. I'm sure Sony would LOVE this to replace DVD's, but I doubt that's anywhere in the near future.

I found one rumor page that said the PS3 could play them. We'll see....
