I doubt it. It's completely different from the fictional digitizing technology in Tron. The idea sounds interesting, though.

there was an awesome cowboy bebop episode about mind uploading. i dont know if any of you dig the anime thing but...yeah. it was called brain scratch. if you can, id HIGHLY reccomend checking this episode out, ESPECIALLY if mind uploading is something of interest to you. cowboy bebop is an anime that takes place in the not too distant, yet very realistic, future. check it out if you can. i wont ruin anything about it, but its called brain scratch and its one of my favs.

Isn't Johnny Mnemonic based on the characters from William Gibson's "Neuromancer"? That was a pretty good book.

I don't know if I'd necessarily say that mind-uploading is so different from digitization. In either case, your consciousness is being converted to a digital format.

The only difference is that with digitization, your body is converted as well as your mind, but I would think that even with mind-uploading, unless your body is somehow kept on autopilot, it would die anyway, so the end result is the same.

Digitization is no doubt the Tron equivalent of mind-uploading, and I think it brings the concept to the mind of the viewer without literally explaining how either procedure might work.
