I dont think she was, she was just saying that its out there some where and if we found it we could start out own mods. But I am sure if you contacted the producers of the game maybe they would be willing to hand a copy over? My friend did this with the original Unreal tournament he asked for the source and they sent it to him for free. Also a possibility. If you ask really nicely, they will also give it to you. Does anyone know who you would have to ask to get the Tron 2.0 source codes?

Well we know that BVI are the originators of the game tron 2.0. Let me take a look in the back of the manual there. There should be a name of the head producer of the game. I'll take a look into it when I get back home and check it out. If we could get it. Even if it is for here for tron-sector. Where we can expand on it for both them and make it an extension over here. It would be great for both parties. meaning that we can get a expansion pack, add ons, tighten the code even further. and what ever else we can think of here. It would I think a win win scenario for tron-sector and BVI. And if they like it. maybe who know.

Well.... it would be a perfect way of "testing the waters." What I mean is testing to see how successful an expansion/sequal would be before they sell it by having a home brewed modware. They won't have to pay anything for this... nor will they lose anything.
As far as a Tron 2.5 goes, I would really love to see a few more playable characters and you follow their storylines with a chance at an alternate ending. Next to coding and stuff, one of the next hurtles would be writing a story/stories and voice acting. The voice acting worries me a little more because I don't think we can get the origional actors. So I believe that we're going to need sound-alikes.

So who would be interested in something like this Lets have a show of disks here. If we're going to go out on a limb here we need to know who's going to be in this. We would need a small team here for that to test the mod programs and what ever else here that we can think of. Besides me and Kamui. Who else would be intersted in it. And do we hav some novice/Junoir programmers like myself on this board. who does know how to program in C++, VB, Cobol, and such. We would need to be about ven her on both in order to mak this work.

*Rases LOL and waves it wildly in the air* Okay.... I'm not too keen on languages yet (I'm still a novice) but I am in the process of learning Java (BTW, "Head First Java" is an awesome book! I recomend everyone to pick that up or any "Head First" programming book they find. You'll see why! ) But I can write great stories with nifty twists and turns along with stuff dealing with Photoshop. And I'm not too shabby in the voice acting department either. This will be great because I'll also be working on my own game for the cel and I can use both games to practice with. ^^

Kamui,
Its a start. We all stated somewhere.Just to giv you some heads up there. I don't know if your prof may have mentioned this to you. Java is very similar to C++ in some ways there. Meaning that Java was based on C/C++ language. And made it portable for the computers who have the java interpretor installed on their computers. So you'll probably have a good time learning C++ if you hve a compiler available as well to work with it. So that will make two people roughly. Anymore?

Actually, he did tell us that. Also he said that C and C++ are the great grandaddies of a little known language called "Javascript." The only catch is that I have NO compiler. I could write all the code in note pad and have someone compile it for me. But then again, it'll be a lot handy-er if I actually had the compiler. Know any decent C++ compilers as Freeware/Shareware? the Java compiler I got as freeware kinda died on me (Actually... it was never aloe to start with. Actually I can helpyou out on that one Kamui if your interested in it. ANd its free. as well. So if we can get a available source for Tron 2.0 from Monolith/BVI we can tweak th living daylights out of it too. Here is the link for you and the others so that we can all work on it together. http://www.bloodshed.net/dev/devcpp.html Myself I have like 2 C/C++ compilers over here. One from Borland and th other is from Microsoft whixh is included with my version for Visual Studio 6.0 enterprise edition ver here. I think I still have Delphi, and Jbuilder from Builder as well too. So I am basically all set over here with programming ovr hre. The compilers that I am using are all enterprise versions and bot thestandard versiobns here. So..

Hmm i'm not sure if i should say this or not.
Ok i do it:
a) Monolith can't give the source of Tron to anyone, because BVG licensed it, it is modified and owned by BVG, so you must asked BVG not Monolith.
b) BVG won't give it away. The Tron Community Deveöoper Group (TCDG, consisting out of the biggest modder of Tron2.0) already asked, buggered, cried, at least did -everything- to get the code. We were also in direct contact with important pps at BVG. They promised us a lot, but in the end they canceled it. The don't want to support this, that's a fact.
c) Talking about Programming languages: Javascript is, as a script, just an extension to a OOP-Language like Java, C/C++ or an Application. It coud be a first step as you learn about block-syntax and other stuff. But you can't program real application or games or whatever. Java is a platform independent language which has it advantages but also disadvantages based on this independence. Good to start with real OOP. C/C++ is an OOP language as well, but much more complex as you have to work with pointers, memory allocation and much more.
In the case of Tron the only language you can use is C/C++!

BVI would rather run Turok even further into the ground than it already is, than to help with something that has sooooo much potential - AND WOULDN'T DIE IF THEY GAVE A DAMN ABOUT IT!!!!

Idsox I don't want to sound like I am going really nit picky and going down your throat about this. Don't take it the wrong way is what I am saying here. I'm interpreting it in a different way than maybe you are at this. But just modding new levels for light cycle is one thing. When I am talking about source code for tron 2.0 I'm looking into tightening the code of the game to make it work even better on even slower machines than the bare minimal requiremnts. I'm looking into other things than just making expansions packs for it.
And in the programming part I do agree with you whole hearty in it. Imagine trying to make a game like tron in GWBASIC . Would be cruel to kill a computer that way.

O.K. For those who had a little trouble realizing what Xistence stated above...
1. The TRON 2.0 source code will not be given out!!!
2. Any further materials relating to TRON 2.0 production (i.e. prefabs, level source, etc.) will also not be given out!!!
Source for these statements: BVG
The TCDG (Tron Community Developers Group) has been working behind the scenes with BVI to try and secure various things to continue TRON 2.0 community growth. At one point we were to receive about 1.2+ gigs of materials - map sources, model sources, prefabs, etc. 2 months went by - the approval process made it to the top dog...where it was given the beatdown. BVI themselves have been the ones to pretty much grind things to a halt in this effort to revive a dying community. They would rather buy piss-poor franchises like Turok: Dinosaur Hunter than invest in quality (albeit underperforming) franchises like TRON 2.0.
The main reason TRON 2.0 isn't as alive as we'd like isn't the community ...it's BVI's own lackluster support. As hard as it is to believe that Disney would undermine its own property....It's exactly what has happened, AND IS HAPPENING. I predict within the next 2 years (given their history in bad judgement) that BVI will stop being anything as a serious developer and will shift COMPLETELY to a market whos audience won't give a rats @$$ about quality . . . 5 year olds.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I had to pop back in for this.
Turok? Talk about capital DEAD franchises. When was the last time anyone said "I played Turok yesterday!"? Bad bet.
I have to wonder about the future of the TRON franchise at all at this point. I know bad things are happening at BVG right now. I still hear things through people still connected to it.
Their two big bets are Chicken Little and Narnia. They have to sell bucketloads of both of those games to move forward. While I think Chicken Little has some merit, I think the world will ignore it as a movie and a game.
Narnia. There is no game there. It was boring when I saw it the first time, I bet it's even more boring now. I'll stick to the books frankly. I think the movie will suck because there are so many people with a movie in their head from reading the books that they will not like what the filmmakers did with the story.
I'm glad I got the boot from BVG because it's going to go down again like it has four times before. They can't get past a certain level. They collapse under their own weight.
They bring in execs who start spending lots of money and make massive changes in the organization, and then they stumble and fall. Having seen it in 1994/95 and watching it from afar in 1998 and then again at BVG in 2003, I think you can see the pattern.
I'm happy I'm not there, because I don't have to live through that debacle again. I stayed too long and wasn't doing my best work, that was my part, but man it will be satisfying to see it happen to certain people. I just wish the people I care about there didn't have to live through another round.
I think they should dump BVG and hand the games over to Disney Internet Group. At least they are doing things people are responding to.
Perhaps I still have a few sour grapes in my pack, but I'm just sharing my opinions which are based on truths I see from my position in the industry. TRON is dead, and BVG will be in intensive care within the next 15 months. Bet on it.

Don't worry Compucore, i can't take it the wrong way, 'cause you don't get my point. I wasn't talking about making maps for LC explicitly or just mods. You should know that i made lots of maps for Tron so far and that i work on a total conversion based on the Tron-engine, making a whole new game. And i was intrested in the game-code since i started playing the first demo. So no modding, completely rebuild, thats my target. But as i already wrote in my previous post there is -no- chance to get the source, TCDG and myself tried it for more then a year, i think this speaks for it self.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I can also back up Tronfaq, X and Layer.
Our group, The TCDG, tried anything and everything in the hopes they would release the source.
Unfortuantely, Its just not going to happen.
However,
Dont let this discourage any of you from creating new materal.
It is posslble to create lots of new stuff based on the limited amount of material they did release.
For example, check out our team web site:
http://www.livingdead.g2gm.net/downloads.html
We have may new maps and mods avail for D/L
If you guys have any questions about mapping,
Just drop us a line.
