**SPOILERS AHEAD** stop reading now if you don't want critical points of the plot revealed!
3) The Ending. Terrible ending. We never know who the bad CEO is, or what ever comes of him. Alan says he can somehow save the people from fCon in the PC, but didn't we just kick their collective binary butts? Also, what's up with Jet asking for Mercury as a screensaver? Was that a joke? Mercury is more than a mindless screensaver, pup.... not mere eye candy! You respect her, dammit!
|
I suppose that the reason why the ending was like that was because they were expecting a sequal or an expansion pack. Now since we have no idea if there even is going to be a sequal, the ending now seems quite weak.
But as far as the Mercury-screen saver comment, I think it was more meant as a joke, albeit, a cheesy one, but a joke neither-the-less. ^^;;

Well, we all know how that goes. *cough* Planet Of The Apes..... *cough* (Tim Burton version, that is).
Seems that when you set yourself up for a seqel is the surefire way to ensure that you DON'T get one.

I mean it could have worked and it was well set for a sequal. But when they don't set it up for a sequal and then come up with one, then the sequal is usually quite weak in comparison to the origional. So hmm.....

Hrmm... not sure I agree with that. There have been fine movies/games that didn't set themselves up for sequels that continued a story line just fine. Some set themselves up more obviously than others. Tron 2.0 left me with some questions... but ones I think should have been answered in THAT game... not left hanging out there to entice you into something else. It wasn't a cliffhanger ending.. it was .. well... an ending.
NO ending should leave you saying "What the f*&^%?"

I agree with ya Kamui....pretty much all of your points.
I have never liked the idea of a sequel anyway, unless it is fully anticipated. No "lets-see-how-the-first-movie-goes" attitude. If games or movies are to be sequeled....budget for it! Just look at Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Matrix, etc. Those were MEANT to be 3 movies long. Do it like that!
Of course you do have cases where totally new adventures come about. (Like the Tron 2.0 sequel). That can work too, but the first movie had some sort of closure...leaving you content.
The fact that Disney had made Tron 2.0 a video game but not a movie, tells me they weren't confident in creating the movie, but made the video game as a "lets see how it goes" kind of thing. Stop toying with us tronnies Disney! We are people (or should I say "users") dammit! hehehe

Well I think they should make a sequel Game and movie. Tying maybe not so tightly together. Since it would be harder to keep the game and movie sequel in parallel there with each other. A Little criss cross from each other would be okay. Where certain time lines do cross each other is okay and theykind of explain each other when you view both the game and the movie.. But The game itself of Tron 2.0 should have at least had an expansion pack to it. Maybe not another full fledge game to it. Take a look at Diablo and Diablo 2. and the quake series. (I think quake is up to three right now and a fourth is coming out soon. as well there. ) I know for sure diablo and Diablo 2 had their own extra expansion packs to the game themselves. Even though the game was relate from one to the other. But thats just my interpretation of things on this.

However.... there were a few things I *didn't* care for.....
With the Legacy Code, if Tron showed up, you probably wouldn't be the hero any more. I guess that the only reason why the code turned Ma3a into some demented program was because you might need the original host for the code. The CEO seemed to be one of those anonymous criminals but maybe the fCOn team "derez(z?)ed in the same way Data Wraiths did. As for the screensaver thing, I can't say anything. Just as a note, my favorite weapon was the LOL.
*Separate question*

Maybe if we had a chance to get the actual source code of the original tron 2.0 we could by chance make our own sequel of Tron 2.l0 so that we could have a good one for the record of tron sequels.

Or at least some interaction with the original Tron in the game and you still be the hero of the game itself. There are so many diffeent ways of doing this. It depends on what or how you want to do. And the interpretation of it too.

*Pauses for a moment, takes a deep breath and says* Maybe someone already has the source code and it's just hiding out on the net. Think about it! I mean there were people in my class who were able to get the Half Life 2 Source codes before the game even came out! If you get enough people (And the right people) excited about the game, odds are that they'll hack it and get the source code right? We just have to find it.... which considering the nature of the beast, may be easier said than done.

I dont have the PC version.. so this may be a stupid question... but why do you need the source code? Can't you already make mods and levels based on the original game engine?
Or are you looking to infuse things like voices and text and stuff?
That would be an EXTRAORDINARY amount of time someone would have to dedicate to it for no compensation |

Well that is the easy way out of making levels and all that for the light cycles and the servers. But if you had the source code for the game tron 2.0 as an example you could also do a lot more with it too. Like squeeze out a lot of the bloateed stuff that is still in there that will make it more playable for it. Even on a slower machine. With the source code you could add a command line to it that if you wanteed to make as example here. if you wanted to do like what is available for quake 1 where you could load individual single player levels of maps for disks and all that. Or to just generally do some extra help in making Tron 2.0 better in what ever way possible. There are a slew of other examples that I could give you as well. Just that they are not on the op of my head. And being a junoir programmer here as well. I could give you a lot of other reason when I can think of that you could use the source code for the game.

You're very wrong about the hacking the source code thing. The Half Life 2 hack was not typical, it was an event that sent shockwaves around the industry. It was also a crime and those who did it were found out and arrested.

Conduit I was not refering to hacking into the game tron 2.0 itself. Only if it was made available. Unreal Tournament was one game that I do know that has the source code available for it under GPL licensing where you must provide the source code along with the working version of the game. And you can do modifications to it as you plwase. And work on it. So long as the source code is made available with it. I know it may have sounded that I was rfering to hacking into the game and just decompile it that way. But that is not my intentions to it. I have seen many companies are going this way. Linux environments are doing it already. as well as Sun Microsystems has gone that way too for their Sun SOlaris 10 version. If its done legally I would defintaely go that way with tron 2.0 but not hacking into it just for the sake of it.

Forgive my lack of knoledge about mods, (the newest game I've modded is the Star wars game Jedi Knight) but wouldn't providing the source code be basicly giving the game away?
Just a question...

Well it depends Harpo. And don't worry about that. We ll ask that kind of question in one form or another. And its not a stupid question either. Its rather a good question to ask. Sometimes when you work on source code for long periods of time. And you think that you have gotten all the bugs out. And everything is fine. Sometime you may need some extra help out in finding those other bugs that still may be hiding somewhere. Thats where you have people like myself or those who are interested in a challenge like this. Even though it might be helping them out in someway.
Or just to play around with actual source code. So it depends on who you ask. Like I had mentioned once before in my previous posting. Like Unreal tournament. They have provided the source code. Its not like they are giving it away type of thing you can still buy the full version and running. Its just an option for those who want to do more for their favorite game. For me anyways if given a chance to do so would love to do it for Tron 2.0 and even make some add ons for it. For the simple reason to get more people attracted to it.
