Hello Guys and Gals (and programs),
I'm about to get started on modeling the light cycle arena. I had a couple questions and requests. I was looking for good screen captures of the light cycle scenes, particularly good shots of the walls of the arena. I started here:
http://www.tron-sector.com/gallery/default.aspx?do=gallery§ion=1&category=1&group=Miscellaneous
but didn't find much. Could some of you post a few shots or if the resolution is too high to post please feel free to email them to me at choff at bellsouth dot net? The higher resolution the better.
Also I know how to get the RGB color values of a given pixel in a picture. Atleast I've done it before. At the moment I'm not certain of the software I was using but I'm sure I can find it again. However what I'd like to be able to do is select an area (it could just be a box) and be told what the average RGB color values were for the whole area. Anyone here know of an easy way to do that?
And the last two questions here are aimed at DaveTRON.
Dave, do you still have the hi-res capture you mentioned here?
http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/default.aspx?do=top&id=296980
I'm hoping you didn't lose access to it when you lost your last job.
And did you ever find the letters that go with these numerals?
http://www.tron-sector.com/gallery/show.aspx?ID=1320
If so I'd certainly like to model them. I'm not yet sure if I'll put them in the walls of my light cycle arena or not but even if I don't I have a few other uses in store for them.
Thanks everyone,
Carl

I just e-mailed you a few images from the light cycle scene that seemed to show the arena walls decently.
I actually have the entire light cycle scene in hi-res images on my HD because of a demo video I worked on some time ago. I never deleted the TIF files.
I hope that helps some

If you still dont have the pics you need by the middle of the week I can take some new ones for you (got tests till then). As for a color picker photoshop has an average color picker. I belive gimp has the same feature. If you have the Tron DVD and a DVD player in your PC all you have to do is hit the alt+ Print Screen to make a screen capture of the DVD playing software and then import it (paste) into your favorite paint program.

Actually, this depends on the DVD player. Not all of them allow this operation. I use WinDVD Platinum which has a capture setting, but it only works if certain setting are adjusted properly. You might need to do a little research before this will work.
I've seen a lot of people do the ALT-PRINTSCREEN method, and it looks like you got a pic, but when you pull it up laer it's a black box.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online DaveTRON

I've had that black box problem. Does anyone know a way around it? Does the screen capture work depending on what software program you paste it in?on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

As DaveTRON mentioned, WinDVD has its own inbuilt screencapture program, I beleive this is because of the video stream not being the same as that which is used to display your data.
I mainly use a Mac and there is an excellent screen capture shareware call 'SnapzPro X' this snapz DVD's without any difficulties - I would browse some decent shareware sites for screen capture tools, and read the reviews. There was a good video capture tool for windows I used on a shockwave director project I had taken part in, but that was a few years ago now.

Todd sent me some great pictures but sure send away. The more the better. There is a sequence right at the beginning of the light cycle match where the camera pans down from a recognizer, over the wall, and down to the game grid. That shot probably best shows the 3D nature of the wall. Some pics of that would be great and there is no rush. At the moment I only have time to work on this on the weekends and not even all that much time then.
I've got photoshop. I guess it's time to figure out how to use the average color picker. I'm not familiar with gimp, or atleast I don't think I am.
And I've replied to your PM via email...
Carl
P.S. Also in that shot with the recognizer I mention above you can see what's just beyond the arena wall. A pic of that shot would be nice too. I may try to model some of the arena surroundings.

I do have the TRON DVD and I have a DVD drive on my PC. However I believe there is some conflict with my sound card and my DVD drive. Even when I first got this computer about 3 or 4 years ago I had to take it back once and get the sound card replaced because I couldn't use the DVD drive. Even after it was "fixed" it was very touchy and crashed alot while trying to play DVDs. So I stopped trying to play DVDs on my PC soon there after and sometime between then and now it's gone back to the state it was in when I first got it. I can't play a DVD without locking up the PC. To someone that knew the ins and outs of these things there is probably an easy fix but my days of keeping up with all you need to know to keep a PC finely tuned ended back in the later DOS days. There is just too much to know now and it changes far to fast for me too keep up with it. As I'm about to the point I think I need a new PC anyways I'm not too worried about it.

I've always sort of thought of this as a map of the "city" for lack of a better word that Flynn ended up in. The IO tower is there in the center.
Assuming I'm correct...
(1) Where is the game grid on this map?
(2) Who made the gif file that's used as the background here at Tron-Sector? It looks quite accurate so I assume it was made from the above. If so how? If I had an ordered list of all the verticies in this map I could use it to create a 3D prism in POV-Ray.

Either Auric or TRONProgram owns that piece of art. I have a scan of it that is better than that image.
If you look at the Syd Mead arena designs, that area is the command and training area. It sits in the center of multiple lightcycle arenas. Within that complex are other gaming arenas on a smaller scale like the Jai Lai game and the other ring battles.
I'll dig up some images to post tonight.

Yep, it was done by Richard Taylor and it sits proudly in my cupboard until the day comes that I can display it properly "Like the man said, there's no problems, only solutions"-Kevin Flynn, prior to his entry into the electronic world- 1982 |

No problem. I really appreciate the help.
As for the letters, I'm sure they'll turn up eventually. Just keep me in the back of your mind for when they do.
Thanks,

Great... I don't think I've seen the arena designs you are refering too. I can't wait to see them.
Thanks again,
