Good for you! So you actually FINISHED a media project! And it's "TRON-ish" too? Sounds really cool.

yup. i've got many more maps in the making as well

i was also thinking of creating a weapons pack of tron 2.0 weapons [one of my friends kindly donated some ut2004 compatible models of all the tron 2.0 weapons.
AND [i might've already said this] i'm slowly working on a lightcycle in maya. i'm relatively new to it, so my designs take a while to create.

phew! i've got my work cut out! and i just started my final year at school [the one with all the evil exams at the end]

So what's your excuse? Do you get bored with them or don't know what direction to take them in? Or do you just get side tracked with life and never seem to get back to them? I've seen some of your works and the comics on your site. You've got some good creative talent there, and an obvious love for that classic computer - the C64!

Mostly, it's life sidetracking me with college and all. I'm trying to get college done so I can finally graduate. Aaah. (Fifth year in college...)

However, I do still try to work on the c64 comics and that's one of the few projects I've been able to stick with.

Darn you lucky people! Since I don't have the money for those 3D graphics/animation programs, I have to aquire them another way (As for what way, I'm NOT saying. Too much trouble.... and I don't mean in the 'I'm-lazy' sorta way. So DON'T ask. If you do, I'm going to have to beat you to a bloody pulp and say 'Don't do what I do at home or anywhere else for that matter, kid.' ) *Is still a poor college student* One day... just one day.... *Sigh*

...just one day.... *Sigh*

Actually, there are a good number of FREE high-end 3D rendering software packages out there (and I don't mean warez).

I'm sure you've seen the 3D light cycle Carl Hoff (user name wwwmwww) featured in the image gallery.

I don't remember what he said he used (was it light ray?) but I do recall he said it was a free download. And I know I've heard of at LEAST a few other free, high-end 3D rendering apps - that are also compatible with some of other expensive 3D apps. (in terms of file types). These apps. are generally offered free to anyone who is not using them commercially.

If you do a little searching, I'm sure you'll find some really good applications out there, and not have to acquire them another way

I used some freeware apps. on my early FX work - a free video de-compiler and re-compiler was a big help at the time

i've said this once, and i'll say it again.

i got my version of Maya free with Unreal Tournament 2003. all i had to do to get it working was register on the website [since i registered, not a single spam email from them] then install the package.

i got a good bargain there! an excellent game [if anyone hasn't played UT2004/2004 then you haven't lived properly] an editor for the game, AND a free version of maya! all for £18

Heh, can't play UT 2k3 or 2k4.

Silver showed me why: my cpu is overheating. AAHHHH.

So, I have to be very careful when using programs that would require a lot of cpu power. (So, I can't just use photoshop on and off all day then play a game. That would make the game freeze up on me, gah.)where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Which Unreal Tournament do you need to buy to get Maya? You mentioned both UT03 and UT04... do they both have it? That's cool to know! It must be a stripped down version of Maya, though... no?

after digging around on the dvd version of ut2004, i've just found out maya is with BOTH GAMES.

the maya is a PLE [personal learning edition], but as far as i can tell, and with checking features of a full maya version, it's got all the same features. it also comes with a load of step-by-step tutorials.

ut2003 is cheaper, but ut2004 is better.

i have also realised that i am obsessed with unreal, seeing as i own every single unreal game [except championship because i don't have an xbox]. i...am...a...fanatic!

I have what I believe is a full version of Maya that a friend just handed me once. Big pile o'software and it included maya, Premiere, Photoshop, Autodesk Animator and a lot of other cool stuff. I use most of it, but as of yet have not fired up Maya.

Oh, that's cool about Maya being on both UT03 and UT04! But now I wonder if it's only on the DVD version... hmmm

And that's cool, DaveTron -- sounds like you got hooked up!

TheReelTodd: As for your other creative works - sounds interesting. From oil paintings to flash animations - you should put your stuff on the internet and show it off. I'd be interested in checking it out.

Thanks for the interest! You actually inspired me to update my site with more sketches/works and change the layout so there are thumbnails now.

I guess you could say my website is an example of a perpetual "work-in-progress" I plan to eventually work in Flash a bit more to make my site a little more dynamic. (So far I've only built simple Flash stuff for other people, and most of my artwork is done by pens and pencils, rather than oils.) I only have one finished oil painting and I did it about 10 years ago; and it's nothing special. That's why I kinda want to do one today!

(Note: Thanks a lot, Todd! LOL. I planned to get my deck completely sanded and stained today, but I've been working in PhotoShop and HTML editor instead, thanks to you!) I just checked out ALL the images on your site, Traahn - VERY impressive artwork!

I see that many of your works are still in progress, but they still look great. Funny thing - I have the song Haccuna Matata (sp?) stuck in my head now - DOH!

Great selections for artwork as well. I'm glad you updated your site and decided to show off your stuff. You should add your site & link to your signature - you may get more hits that way Let people know you've got your stuff out there.

And I didn't suffer from the evil pop-ups - I've got a good POP UP KILLER! Haaa ha ha ha ha! It takes care of those ANNOYING damn pop-ups!

I've been considering adding a "Null Zone" or "Dead Project Zone" or something like that to my own site recently. Last night, I figured I'd just do it today... but I didn't feel inspired to do so in the morning

I do a lot of experimental stuff and have some unfinished projects that will probably never get done and no one will ever see... and yet they have cool elements to them that I'd like to offer for viewing.

I've always been VERY strict about showing anyone unfinished works in the past. I almost NEVER show people ANYTHING until complete... unless it's a fellow artist whom I'm seeking creative feedback from while it's in progress.

But I've got some other cool visual experiments and just "did this because I was bored one day" stuff that I've never showed anyone (aside from a couple friends via e-mail).

Perhaps I should add a "Experimental Clips" and "Abandon Projects" pages too...

You know - I've got so many clips of this and that... I'm not even sure where half of them ended up. I'd have to check dusty old CDs!

Oh well - better to show something than nothing, perhaps. My site sure could use more content. Maybe I should add some incomplete (dead) projects... or not... I don't know. Maybe just the experimental and visual FX demos or something. Incomplete projects are so... well... so rough around the edges. It's different with the incomplete project is a video work - they don't tend to look so good when unfinished. Hard to explain, but I think you understand.

Oh - and YOU'RE WELCOME!

You know - for not having to work on your deck today because you were glued to PhotoShop and HTML authoring He he he.

Maya Learning Edition is FREE

many other programs have HUGE discounts for students, enjoy them while you can.

I like working with these apps, but they definitly have a learning curve. You can easily get lost in the menus, literally hundreds of commands. The can produce amazing stuff if you have the vision and the experaince.... I hope to take more classes with these programs to learn about the 90% of the features im not using

Do you guys count autocad as art? I think it is.... you can make almost ANYTHING with it. I can do basic things, but im learing more and more about it and tool path creation for cnc work its definitly interesting stuff.

I guess you caught me! Those are not only 'works-in-progress,' but umm... projects that I don't think I'll ever go back to! Many of those drawings are just sketches in my sketchbook, nothing final... just practice. I think you meant, "Hakuna Matata!" (it means no worries)... hehe. Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for the suggestion regarding adding my site to my signature. I just might do that one of these days!

I just updated my site one more time. That is, I threw a rough Flash animation together to liven the top logo up a bit. Let me know what you think! I plan to add sound to it some other time, and maybe add some effects to make it more Tron-like from the movie. (Note: If you miss the animation the first time you view the page, just reload the page.)

Ahh, I wish I could do this kind of stuff for work; it's fun! As it is, I'm a Technical Writer. I've been able to dabble in HTML and ColdFusion for work, but creativity via PhotoShop, Flash, pen & paper, etc. are where it's at for me

Ok - I checked out the brief flash animation you added to your site. It played just fine the first time. A nice touch

Sure - you should add sound to your TRON animation, and perhaps some other TRON-ish things perhaps. That would be cool.

Traahn Wrote:Ahh, I wish I could do this kind of stuff for work; it's fun!

Yeah - I wish I could use my creative talents at work too. I do to some extent - I mean I think up innovative ways for ripping data from the information systems offered by manufacturers... and then I try to automate the process to gather all the data with minimal human resources involved. It requires some creativity. But for the most part - my job is very, VERY BORING. It keeps the bills paid though I guess that's why I keep showing up for work

But to me - my job is just something that gets in the way of my creative interests. If only I didn't have to spend so much time each week (50+ hours a week) there - I would have more time and energy to devote to my creative interests!

Some day...

Well, I put off more deck sanding today to work on my Flash animation Come to think of it, I've hardly eaten anything today either! I must get some food sooooon. I must say, though, that I managed to work on the deck last night for an hour or two, and will again tonight. We don't have that many more "sunny" days left here, so I need to get those "summer" projects out of the way SOON!

As for my updated animation, take a looksee now. I kinda like working with Flash. It's fun!

Hey - that's pretty cool looking (and sounding)!

I like that. Nice job. And the continuous ambient computery sound is a nice touch - and a button to turn off the continuous sound - pretty slick!

I wish I knew when the heck I was doing in Flash. This was one of the first applications that I could not instantly figure out and teach myself how to use. I spent hours some time ago, only to learn how to change a shape in to a slightly different shape. I was really lost in there I haven't tried playing with it since - and that was 4 years ago.

I guess the video editing apps. are more my digital canvas of choice.

You should do more creative Flash work. I bet you come up with some very cool animations And if your winters are anything like ours (cold, lots of snow, freezing cold, more snow, and a little more snow on top of that) - then you will have plenty of indoor time coming up to do stuff like that

I hear ya!! I originally tried working with Flash about 4 years ago, but it certainly wasn't like learning your typical Windows app! Like you, I coulnd't instantly figure out and teach myself how to use, so I lost interest. However, I just recently picked it up again because I really want to learn it. It has definitely taken me several practice hours to get to where I'm at now... but i guess persistence pays off! The Flash animation on my site is only my second attempt at creating a completed Flash movie, and only my first with sounds... so there will definitely be more Flash animations on my horizon!

My winters are gray, rain, more rain, more gray and then more of where that came from! So yes, I'll be indoors a lot

You've got some pretty intense videos on your site; I can see how the video editing apps are your digital canvas of choice! Well done!

EDIT: Okay, I've got a preload animation for my movie now. So, for us who have 28.8 and 56K modems, you'll be treated to a short preload teaser until all of the frames of the main movie load.
