Yeah, you could say that Spectrum and Commodore 64 were the Macintosh and Microsoft of their day here in Europe. I was a Speccy all the way, but it was really weird how everybody's social status and personality were defined by which computer they owned.
For example:
Sinclair Spectrum - working class regular folks
Commodore 64 - middle class (often used, too, by girls)
Amstrad - Those who thought they were better than everyone else
Acorn - eccentric nomads who shouldn't be trusted
Atari (ST) - people with lots of money - the ones who boasted that their games had the best grapics.
It's probably all a pile of hogwash. But when you're 13 years old this is what some of us used to think. Pay no attention to it.

I have been fiddling with a Spectrum Emulator trying to run the old tape based TRON games on my PC. I can't wait to get it working so I can see them.

Well to each their own Osetek. I'm not going to agree or disagree with what your mentioning there. I think that both PC and Mac have their respective good points and their bad points for each. It all depends on what you want to do with them. I know for sure Mac has some really good things that deal with graphical animation, PC has their thing with being more or less use in the general office workspace and the what nots. And others that are not so well known and not often seen or used. Due to their higher prices than what you can get for either Mac or PC That do a lot of other things and are not used like what the general public needs them for. And thats coming from experience over the years and seeing what other machines like sun microsystems machines can do the Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 area prime example of that, Nextstation, SGI machine like the O2 can do in other areas.
Esotek Wrote:I started on a PC and had a few for years. When the novelty of troubleshooting wore off I decided to take a friend's advice and switch to a Mac and see if there was any difference. I had to learn a new OS but once I got through that (about 2 weeks) I didn't go back to working on a PC full time.
So, I may be one of the rare people who switched from the PC to the Mac. If it works, I use it, and it just seems that when it comes to reliability Apple has won me over. Also, IMO, the Mac GUI is much more pleasant to look at and work with, especially OSX. |

That C64 label fits me perfectly, I suppose. :P Being both middle class and female.
But really, my father was able to afford it because of its price. I could never get into the Mac due to the dearth of games. TRON 2.0 still isn't available for the Mac, correct? It probably never will be, either.
Also, the lack of an open hardware platform is not appealing. I really enjoy being able to swap out parts to upgrade my PC whenever I like, and you don't have that freedom with Macs.
BTW, the above is just my opinion based on my experience with computers and what I want to do with a home computer. I don't intend it to be taken as fact. So chill out!on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Actually, it is available for Mac now. MacPlay released a port . . . to little fanfare, mind you. It barely made a blip on the radar, and you won't even find it listed on their site yet.
As for the computers I've owned . . . man, I've lost count. I THINK I've owned 9, including my current one. Gone through so many over the years. Got my first IBM clone around 1990 or 91, only played with a Mac once (didn't own it). And we're talking Mac Classic, not the latest generation. Also owned an Amiga 500, Atari 1040ST, and my first computer was a Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer.

TRON for Mac is not out yet. We just looked at a Beta last week, so it's still a little ways off.

Wow! I stand corrected, there is a port being worked on. I'm really surprized!
But then, that would be a drag for me if I were gaming on a Mac; waiting for a port whilest everybody with a PC (and now even an Xbox) were already playing. "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. Todd's computer history:
1983 - Got my first computer, a Commodore 64. I still have it and I think it still works (it's been in storage for at about 10 years now) - it worked last time it was hooked up. Always had a poor display though - grainy looking grid thing on the screen all the time. I had lots of fun with it though, and enjoyed it very much.
1985 - Bought my MUCH LOVED Apple //c computer. I used it VERY heavily up through the mid 90's. I did a lot of vector animation on it using a (far ahead of it's time) program called "Fantavision". I utilized every bit if those 128K that thing had! I also still have it and I believe it too still works (it's been in storage for at least 7 or 8 years)
1988 - My Dad bought a Macintosh SE, with 20MB HD. It was a classic-style mac of the 80's. LOVED it! It really helped me finish off my senior year of high school with good grades. B&W monitor, and small, but it was a great computer. He gave it to me a few years back when he got a PC. It's two feet to my right, in it's stylish carry-case. It does indeed still work, and I had it last hooked up just a couple of years ago. A true classic!
1998 - My brother let me borrow his IBM Aptiva A50 computer, with a whopping 1.5GB HD, and 150MHz processor. It was less than stellar in performance (even for it's time), but I made good use of it for a few years while he was in the peace corps. I started getting in to digital visual FX and did my first fully digital FX demos with it... which was NOT easy given the constraints of the hardware and HD space.
2001 - I finally invested in my own new computer. A generic box with a 1300MHz AMD processor and two high-performance IBM HDs (60GB and 80GB). I do all of my video work, digital visual experiments, and image manipulations on it... but almost never play games. The occasional emulated game, but I don't see this computer as a game device, but as my canvas and palette of paints. Very little of what I experiment (video artistry, etc.) ever makes it beyond basic tests and experiments, but I enjoy it as my creative outlet.
My current computer is already dated by today's standards, but it's still very functional and I utilize it for communications, work related projects, creative graphic work and video projects, a video editor, and even run two local energy companies with it. They'd be lost without me. Ok, not really. I'm just in a weird mood tonight.
But this is the computer I use. Computers are fun - they open up the door to so many things, and more doors open up with every new innovation and micro-invention. I hope I live long enough to witness and experience the world of computing where the mind interacts directly with the computer, without a keyboard, mouse, monitor, or any other manual devices. That will REALLY be some fun! Or at least, I hope I'm not too old to enjoy it when it comes about

At one time my older brother owned an ADAM computer (poor guy) and that lasted about 4-6 months before Colecovision discontinued it. He wrote them to complain and they sent him all the software and games they ever created for it for free. That's the earliest computer I remember having in the family (if that really counts).
I now do all my work on a Micron P3, 500 MHz PC with Win98. *sigh*
I hope to afford a new computer in the next year. I need more power if I'm ever gonna run any kind of sample based software for my music.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

No kidding? haha, awesome. I don't feel so lonely, now. I'm in the same boat as far as not being able to play Tron 2.0. I bought the game anyways knowing that some day (hopefully soon) I will get to play it. I was at least able to rip the music and listen to that, but now I'm growing impatient. I'm currently using a 4 year old Apple PowerBook (G3/500 running OS X 10.3.2), which is still serving me well (and no, I don't just use it for graphics. I use it for email, web browsing, MP3/MP4 ripping/playing, watching DVDs, some light gaming (due to its age it only has an ATI Rage 128 so the latest games are out), downloading pics from my camera, running MS Office and occasionally some Photoshop work).
I also have an old Dell (P3/450 running XP Pro) that mainly gets used for CD burning these days).
Previous computers have included a Spectrum 48, Spectrum 128+, C64, Amstrad CPC464, MGT Sam Coupé and several PCs from 8088s through to P2s.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online |
