I must admit that I am impressed with not only the (petitioned) demand for a Tron sequel, but also the nostalgic stories tagged alongside them. Thanks for this everyone.
However, is there anyone on the board who feels that there shouldn't be a Tron sequel? I'm not saying this as reaction to the Star Wars prequels, or, any other sequel that failed to live up to its predecessor. I am saying this, because I do not wish to see a Tron sequel. Why? I hear you cry. Purely just for one reason:-
- Tron was of its time; it would be impossible to recreate the feeling, atmosphere, personalities of that particular era. In such, technology and special effects aesthetics have changed so much, retaining all the things that made it such a commanding film would be impossible.
Sure, the sequel may be a great film in its own right. But - as a Tron purist, maybe - I personally don't want to see its "legacy" if you can call it that, changed.
A flippant example: the Star Wars prequels...yes prequels: Although I still love and cherish the originals, the prequels have (whether I like it or not) altered my overall vision of Star Wars as a whole i.e. it was better to speculate, romance even, about what may have happened before or after. However; they went ahead with it, and now my affection for Star Wars has dulled somewhat.
Anyway, Tron. I, like countless others will no doubt make the pilgramge and stand in the queue to watch the Tron sequel - if, they ever get round to producing it. But do you think you could safely say to yourself you won't be comparing it to what went before?
Anyone who doesn't want to see a sequel: I'd be interested to hear your views on why.

Wow. I can't think of a better way to verbalize how I've felt about the prequels, and their effect on the SW universe. Like it or not (not in my case), they have changed the story forever.
As for a TRON sequel... I'll agree there is prob. a danger of it having a negative impacting on the fans. But I'd still like to see it. I don't think, in the right creative hands, it could fail as bad as ep1 &2. But, you do bring up some good "food for thought"... Don't you wish your corruption was hot like me? |

Thank you, Darksaber. I, too, share your outlook on the Star Wars films.
Tron: yes, the big worry is whose creative paws get on there. I mean, if only Lucas had shifted responsibility over to Peter Jackson. In fact, let's get the Tron DVD shipped out to Jackson's New Zealand hideaway pronto.
Cheers ;-)

You do like to live dangerously.
I have thought about this subject a lot, and the main reason I would not want to see a TRON sequel is if people who didn't "get TRON" were put in charge of making it.
I don't want to see a McG re-envisioned version of TRON. I don't want to see anyone else's take on it.
I'd like to see something more along the lines of things like Star Trek or on TV, Buffy, and have a mythos built around the world of TRON. If I can't get that, I might not want to see a film either.
I am curious to see what kinds of responses you get here, and no knives people! abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion DaveTRON

I agree. The potential for a crappy sequel is enormous should the helm be given to someone who's interested in The Bottom Line(tm) rather than someone who would do it as a labor of love. Case in point: . This game captured the spirit of the game quite nicely. If we can capture lightning in a bottle a third time, for the movie sequel, we have nothing to worry about.
That's the trick, though.
So let's pray that 1) the sequel gets made and 2) it's made by people who care about it.
Come on, you scuzzy data, be in there.

As long as Steven Lisberger is in charge as Executive Producer/Director/Writer/similar, I wouldn't be worried.
Now, it's entirely possible that the original creator of a film can end up - dare I say - cheapening it later, as in the case of Star Wars. (Okay, maybe not the best word to use. I actually don't feel the SW prequels are that bad, but I think you get my point.)
But in the case of Steven Lisberger, I don't think so. If you watch any interviews he's done recently, the man is still sharp. He reminds me a bit of James Cameron, he has that same authoritative and confident attitude when he speaks. Like he knows exactly what he wants to do or say. Ask Cameron a question about one of his films, and bang he comes back with a smart answer instantly. Same goes for Mr. Lisberger.
In particular, I saw an interview on TechTV he did a while back . . . and man, he still has vision. He's just a very, very smart fellow.
If Mr. Lisberger only ends up being peripherally involved, though . . . then I would worry about a crap sequel being made.

It took alot of BITS to bring this up red5. The difference between TRON and a sequel would be, to me, like the difference between Star Trek the series and Star Trek the motion picture. Both could exist as mutually exclusive properties. The advances in CGI alone would be enough to contrast the 2 films. Also, I don't recall anyone complaining about the game (2.0). Anyway, that's my take.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Steven sent me an email and asked me to post this response:
"I do the same things you do. I write a lot of stuff on and about Tron that makes Disney scratch their heads. Which makes me scratch mine. I write more anyway. I work on the archive with Davetron and check out the Sector, inspired by all of you I write and draw some more. I find other stuff to do but always come back to Tron. - Steven"
End of response.

That's great to hear. Seeing the above I thought I'd chime in and say: While I'd love to see a Tron sequel and at times can get impatient waiting for one - I'm glad Mr. Lisberger is taking his time and giving throrough thought to generating ideas and a script (If he's even started a draft?)
Good things come to those who wait. And rest assured, if people are still talking about Tron after 20+ years - I feel confident this gives him the assurance that his thoughtfulness and thoroughness for creating a quality script will be well recieved in 12 months or 12 years.
I look forward to the endless possibilities.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

LOL, if that were the case, I'd have to make a real Digicon just to get it into the film. Couldn't pass up an opportunity like that.

Sigh . . . yeah, that's just about what I expected of the current situation on a Tron sequel. Trying to get the executives to understand why a new Tron film is a good idea. Even now, they still don't quite "get it", do they? Even after all these years, and even though computers have become a facet of everyday life. They're still hesitant to take the plunge.
Well, I guess there's hope. We did get after all, and now there's the Xbox version coming up . . .

That is just awsome. The fact that he checks in here, and gets some inspiration from these die hard fans is just too cool.
