Kat Wrote:Aerial_Zero here is modding a disc to yellow. Maybe she'll post here about it. Actually, she may have already made a post about it at one point; can't remember. |
Yep I am modding one myself and after attaching the wires inside Im finally done

I even took some preliminary pics of it the other night I should post

My re-purposed Quorra outfit will rock! (I hope LoL)
It was a fun mod but you definitely need some know-how and study study study the youtube vids from Aradani Studios

Parts alone were somewhat expensive (the disc by itself was 15.00). I have a sheet of expenses at home that I will be happy to review and edit my post with that info when I get home from work

Best guess of the top of my head is Ive spent about $75+ for parts (Im doing all the labor).
Im also doing a yellow EL tape costume -- light tape + inverter + battery pack = $120+ (not counting the clothing parts, disc mount, and labor which is free since Im doing it).
I used a Rinzler disc to mod but looking back, it really doesnt matter. A Sam would have probably worked fine as you replace the lit parts and can paint the back to match (Sam discs were way cheaper and easier to find). Im also not using the rubber O-ring and rather letting the white LEDs shine out creating a more true-to-movie look while on my back and also shining a true bright white vs a peachy/white color
Aradani studios are also selling customized discs as well for $125-150 I think (if you cant do the labor yourself I highly recommend them. They know what they are doing and offer free advise to help

)
I hope I can help ya
EDIT: Yep, it came in just barely under $75.00 just for parts for my disc mod (would have been more if I did not have all the tools needed to mod, like a dremmel, solderiing iron, flux, hot glue gun, etc. Dremmels are about $30-40 by themselves o_O)
