Well after I got a virus on windows and had to back up all my work and reformat.. I decided to give Linux a try. I heard it was more stable and safter for going online. Since all actions are password protected programs can't just go into the system and start changing things.
So far I like it a lot. And best of all it as free! I'm using the ubuntu version. I like how you can customize stuff. I'm still getting windows for my other programs and games. But as far as going online it's Linux and nintendo wii from now on.
How many of you use Linux do you find it safter for surfing online?

I used to run Ubuntu. It's safer. The whole world is writing viruses for Windows. There aren't nearly as many for Linux. And DEFINITELY more stable.
What do you want? I'm busy.
Program, please!
Chaos.... good news. |

Hi Kat
Yeah I agree I was getting like a new virus everyday on my old windows. I have a couple firewalls 3 anti virues programs. I would catch programs trying to break into the system but some got through and made my system run slow. So I backed up all programs and work files I needed and just read about Linux downloaded the free software and here I am. Linux has not crashed once. And I can freely go to sites and not worry about viruses crashing my computer or making my connection speed slow...
I'm happy with Linux... I wish I could have been using it years ago. For work and writing it's great.
And you're right it seems everyone is writing new ways to destroy windows through viruses. Like you said not much viruses out there for linux. And even if you get one. Everything is password protected and encrypted on linux. And programs and viruses can't just go in there and destroy the system, and there is no backdoor etc.
So Kat what do you run now? still on another version of Linux? I heard there are others like mint etc. So far I really like Ubuntu. order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online "I want him in the games until he dies playing" -MCP

I like Ubuntu allot. Linux operating systems are really good and they are free. Only problem is that there isn't really a great deal of 3rd party support for it. So if you are use to using allot of Windows software, you may be hard pressed to find most of them with Linux support.
My only real beef is that not all Linux variants are created equal. What may run in Red Hat doesn't mean it'll run in Ubuntu. Also, if someone could just write something like an 'install shield' (just a double click and then a wizard pops up) that would be nice. The 'apt get' commands always frustrated me because if you are off by just a little bit then you pretty much have to do some research just to get the install to... well.. install... but I guess it's just that I'm way too use to Windows.... and the rule of Linux is that Linux 'isn't Windows' so you have to have a much different frame of mind.
Other than that, I love it. I love the fact that you can pretty much customize everything.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill onlineabortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion |

Yes I am having a lot of fun customizing and not worrying about viruses.
Also now to intall proggrams they have this little progarm that does it for you.
You just download the program you want then it installs with the built in software.
But yeah even for making my screen brighter I have to access the terminal and write the command for the screen to pop up.. in windows you just right click on the desktop and click on the video card settings...
But overall I rather use Linux for work and the net.
Windows can be for video games and certain programs that I need.
But I won't ever surf the net through windows again..
to many viruses attack it...
I will just use Linux and nintendo wii to surf the net...
And I think the Wii is also based on linux.. which is why it's so awesome...
Still I am happy with Linux.. it's my 3rd day.. I wish I would've had this system a long time ago!
Oh yeah and the best part of Linux OS systems..like you said is they are free!
So if your windows system ever goes down.. it's nice to have a Linux system handy because you can boot from the disk or install it...
I will keep my Linux disc around from now on. I want to install it when I get my new lap top as well. on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineorder abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion "I want him in the games until he dies playing" -MCP

If I may, I would like to give some advice on the matter. I actually use both operating systems and have used Windows for over a decade - so I know what tends to upset it stability wise and also know that finding a good firewall and security suite for it is annoying.
Long story short, Windows stability is often because of a faulty driver - the kernel is fairly sound. This I found the hard way when I forced the installation of a Beta nVidia driver. Didn't make that mistake again I can tell you that much.
In terms of Internet security, as surprising as it sounds Microsoft finally got it right with Security Essentials - an antivirus suite that actually does a proper job at removing viruses. The Windows firewall in Windows 7 is also workable - despite it carrying the same name as the first version that came with Windows XP S2.
If you are keeping Windows for games, you may have to connect the installation to the Internet for game activation or updates. Thus it would be wise to install Internet security software just to be safe.
While it costs a bit, you could also try Kaspersky Internet Security - $60-$70 for three machines if I remember right. Never had a problem and keeps the nasties out.
If you choose to make your Ubuntu installation your primary OS - I also use Ubuntu, currently Maverick Meerkat - you should still find some antiviral software for it.
Why? The honest answer is - and most overlook this - Linux installations can still be carriers for viruses for other operating systems. I kid you not!
For example, if you download a file in Linux that contains a Windows virus, and then move that file to your Windows installation, you run the risk of the virus infecting your system. It is harder to find because your Linux system will not be affected.

Thanks Wisehacker!
Very good advice and good tips!
Yes I have not had problems with viruses since I switched to Ubuntu.
I had a firewall and anti virus, anti spyware etc on my windows XP.
But that system always gave me problems.
I got one virus that ruined the system.
Of course i was suing FREE firewalls and anti virus.
I will look into the programs you reccomended.
When I install windows that's just what I need.
And yeah I always scan all files with anti virus software before I open or run them.
But good idea about scanning and get rid of viruses on Linux..
before taking them to Windows.
But for work and business I am happy with Linux.
Windows has it's advantages.
But without protection the system is almost sure to be ruined by
viruses who love to eat the the system like pac man! LOL "I want him in the games until he dies playing" -MCP

OK. I used to use AVG when I first installed Vista - back then I used ZoneAlarm and was waiting for the Vista version to be released.
What I later found out was that it was practically worse than the XP version of Windows Firewall (AAAAAAGH!)
The other thing one need to look out for is that some AV software offered for free is not AV software at all - it is software that masqurades as a protection software but offer no protection and continues to show false positives, claiming that the $30 version of the same software is needed.
Here's a short list from Wikipedia on what to avoid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rogue_security_software
