Greetings programs!
Forgive the nature of my question, but I need a new game besides Tron 2.0 to break up the monotony. Yeah, I said it. I really love Tron 2.0, but I need some variety! There's variety within Tron 2.0 with Mulitplayer, but I'm not ready for that yet. Tron 2.0 really is the only game that I have.
So, I found this page to get me started http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600_games.html
From this short list, the only game that interests me is Flight Simulator X because it looks fairly neutral (kinda like Tron 2.0 is when compared to today's dark and violent games). The rest look a bit too dark and violent for me. But I want something that's going to take advantage of my rig, but still be able to run with everything at the higest settings without any trouble. So, Crysis is clearly out of the question. Actually, even if I could run Crysis at its highest settings, I'm still not interested. There's profanity, and realistic violence.
I understand that this severely limits my choices, but think of me like Jet in the Tron world trying to avoid the corruption. While I'm trying to avoid the corruption, I still want an excellent experience. The corruption is games like Crysis, which is like an extreme example.
I admit that this is very difficult, so I apologize for asking such a question for that reason alone. But I need something new, and something that will be just as cool as Tron 2.0 (if it's even possible), but yet just as "harmless" as it is.
Here are my system's specs (some are irrelevant, but mentioned for those who are interested)
Case: CM 690
PSU: Corsair HX520
Mobo: EVGA 680i
CPU: E8400 (E0 stepping) @ 4.0GHz (with 1.28V)
HSF: Tuniq Tower
TIM: Tuniq TX-1 (stock thermal paste)
RAM: mushkin 996533 (2GB dual-channel kit) @ EPP stock, which is 800MHz, 4-5-4-11, 2.1v
Graphics Card: EVGA 8600GTS (256-P2-N765-AR) @ stock
Sound Card: XtremeGamer 7.1 (the little one) @ stock (some people upgrade certain parts of the sound card)
Storage: 250GB SATA II Barracuda x2
Optical: one DVD/RW drive and one DVD-ROM drive
Display: Samsung 2253BW (22" widescreen)
Speakers: Altec Lansing VS4121 (2.1 speaker system)
Operating System: XP Pro SP2
Wow, that was a little more detailed than I thought it would be. But anyway, as you can see, my system can handle almost anything I throw at it. But at present, Tron 2.0 is the most demanding thing I throw at it.
So, throw some game titles at me and let's see if we can expand my horizon a bit!
Thank you. I appreciate any amount of time you spend on this!
End of line. _____________________________________________________________________

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

Graphics cards always throw me off, but here's a few suggestions (I don't know if they're compatible, but considering your system seems pretty up to date, they should be):
*Battlefield 2: Complete Collection ( $30 at Wal-Mart - Battlefield 2 with Special Forces Expansion Pack and two booster packs) Rated "T"
*The Orange Box ( $40 - Half Life 2, HL2: Ep 1, HL2: Ep 2, Peggle Extreme, Team Fortress 2, HL2: Lost Coast, Portal) Rated "T"-"M"
*Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition ( $40 I think, Sim City 4 is great, and it's even greater with it's Rush Hour expansion) Rated "E"
*Half Life ( $10 on Steam. Pretty fun game, any computer made after 2003 should probably be able to handle it out of the box) Rated "M"
*Spore ( $50) Rated "E10+"
*Half Life 2: Deathmatch ( $5 on Steam I think - Online Multiplayer only) Rated "M" (I think)
There's a few suggestions for PC gaming. If you're lookin' for a Multiplayer fix, some of those titles have multiplayer:
-Battlefield 2 is online/LAN multiplayer, but you can play against bots. You've gotta have an EA account in order to play online
-The Orange Box includes Team Fortress 2, which is like Battlefield 2, I think.
-Sim City 4 either had or has some kind of an online multiplayer mode of some kind. I honestly don't know because I've never tried it.
-Half Life has an online multiplayer deathmatch mode
-Spore uses other people's content, but it's not multiplayer in any aspect. However, if your freinds have Spore, you can add them to your buddies list and your game will have a lot of content from them. It's actually a lot cooler than it sounds.
-Half Life 2 Deathmatch is LAN/Online Multiplayer only.
Out of those, I have:
-BF2
-Half Life
-Spore (Name: Timewaster)
-Half Life 2 Deathmatchwhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

He said in his other thread that he just upgraded to Vista. Didn't specify which version, though...

My OS is XP Pro SP2. My original post has been updated to reflect that.
Please keep the suggestions coming. When suggesting, pretend that I'm like 10 years old or something. But don't suggest any games like Shrek, if there is one! hehe
I'm looking for something like Tron 2.0, but maybe more advanced but not too advanced for my system. I am the kind of person who, if I can't run everything at the highest settings, then it's not worth it. I've been described as "an all or nothing" type of person!
One important note: if it's dark and/or evil, or has realistic violence, then I must avoid it. I understand that this drastically limits my choices, but that's why I am considering Flight Simulator X. I figure that if its on that list of games, then it must take advantage of my video card's capabilities. Not only that, but I suppose I might enjoy that game, even though it's quite different from Tron 2.0.
My goal is to find at least one game I can play other than Tron 2.0. where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online _____________________________________________________________________

If your looking for good clean fun, and 100% retro I would recommend MAME to run all the old arcade games http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAME. Only problem is that it's only going to tax a 200 MHz machine...
2nd problem is that it may not be 100% legal to play the ROMs that you may find, however I totally can justify it by the ton of quarters I blew from paper routes/lunch $$/sisters purse (don't tell anyone...) |

Good suggestion. Even though this may not be of any interest to me, this may prove to benefit somebody else who comes across this! _____________________________________________________________________

His machine has a 4 GHz processor, I don't see why he would have any problem with Mame....
However, the world of ROMs and Emulation is an incredibly complicated one, especially with all of the legal issues involved with it. If you decide to venture into Mame, prepare for all the frustration I got when certain games would inexplicably not work for no reason whatsoever, or other technical difficulties. Emulation is a very stressful path to take at times, but it can feel very rewarding when you get something to actually work.

Okay, stick to retail games.

I believe the quote "Only problem is that it's only going to tax a 200 MHz machine.." means that the problem is it that MAME won't take advantage of my rig the way I would want. I think he's saying that my system would look at me and say, "do you not know what I'm capable of? Come on! At least challenge me a LITTLE!!"
I admit that when I read that the first time, I was like "where did he get the idea that I have a 200MHz system?" So, dumbfounded, I read it again. I'm glad I did, because I almost said something about that!
Anyway, I'm most certainly not going to delve into the world of emulations unless I have a craving for Atari 2600 games, or Commodore 64 games! That hasn't happened yet. hehe
But you're right, I'm going to stick to legal, and legit games. I used to be quite a software pirate, but those days are long gone by choice.
lol@Shrek Super Party. lol
It would be nice to find some games kinda like Tron 2.0. But I'd like something where the GeForce 6 or 7 series is listed in the Minimum System Requirements, and that the GeForce 7 or 8 series is recommended.
Maybe that's what I need to ask!

Greetings TimH,
I completely understand what you say, however, and please don't get me wrong here, you gotta be honest to yourself my fellow program... Just because that's your favorite videogame of all time doesn't mean it lacks "dark & violent content" my friend... Do you really think TRON 2.0's "evil-free"???
I mean, Does a company full of greedy and corrupt people, determined to illegally obtain information, kidnapping and God knows what else, sound okay to you? The possibility of shooting "enemies" in the head IS NOT A VIOLENT THING just because we're talking about "programs"???
" Everything created by man is in one way or another corrupt simply because we're not perfect. Yet."
In a nutshell, apology's accepted...
Now, with this in mind, (and assuming you want another 3rd person shooter; if not, just get The Sims, Spore or any one of them 'Tycoon'-type games) the game you may be looking for is called either:
- Transformers: The game (Nothing wrong with kickin' tons of metal butt badly)
- Armed and Dangerous, a third person action/adventure comedy shooter which parodies other games and several other media. (Heavenly fun. No pun intended)
- Messiah, a third person shooter by Interplay in which the player controls a cherub. (Dark as hell. Pun intended) You need to check out the COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL TRON TIMELINE!
Meanwhile in the real world... the controller feeds the shift clock to the VRAM's video port. Each shift clock pulse causes the VRAM to deliver the next datum, in strict address order, from the shift-register to the video port... Next frame-buffer data: Who created users? |

Ok... let me see...
Portal - It's 100% non-violent. It's a puzzle game in FPS and there are really no weapons.
Worms 4 - uhh... I guess it's somewhat violent, but you play worms shooting worms. Look it up and see what you think.
Pac-Man World Rally - This is a cute race game like Mario Cart but you can get it for the PC.
DEFCON - It's a nuclear war game like the one from 'War Games' but very nice. It's basicly a map where you shoot missiles. The only part you might have a problem with is that it gives you a total number of kills... but it doesn't show anything.
There are a lot out there but I'll have to do some thinking and get back to ya.. |
