Holy crap, he revived it! A thread that's back from the dead!
I just wanted to talk a bit about the second season finale of TSCC. It aired last night. Now we wait until next month to find out if it gets renewed for a third season, or cancelled.
Right now, chances of renewal don't look too good. The long mid-season break, followed by a move to Friday nights and a three episode story arc that was - frankly - very dull, really put a dent in the ratings. The show stumbled, but in the last few episodes it got back on its feet and had some kickass episodes. I hope the bounceback wasn't too late to save it.
If you haven't followed along all season, the last couple of episodes probably won't make a lot of sense. But if you wrote off the show, you should really come back and watch these. Actually, the last several episodes have all been excellent. But these last two were "epic". Watch them on Hulu, the Fox site, if you DVRed them . . . just watch them.
Here are my thoughts on the finale. Spoilers hidden for your convenience.
- When Cameron asked John to check her power cell for damage, I think she had an ulterior motive for doing so. In her own strange, twisted way, I think she was trying to get intimate with him. She has her own version of emotions that aren't quite the same as a human's, but clearly she "loves" him and can't find a proper way to say it or show it.
- This brings us to why she tried to get initimate with him, why she seemed upset when Ellison used the phrase "Will you join us", and why she also seemed upset after the battle in the police station and her face was half gone. When she said she wasn't 100%, she didn't mean due to battle damage. Again, she was speaking about her emotional state.
- Once she heard that phrase, her mission parameters changed and she knew she was going to have to sacrifice herself. She knew her human appearance would probably be damaged beyond repair, that she would "die" by giving up her chip, and that she would lose John. She wasn't going to be protecting him any more. That's why she was upset.
- My best guess is that in previous episodes, the liquid metal Terminator on the sub was what we came to know as Catherine Weaver. Why she broke away from Skynet isn't clear. Maybe John Henry already existed, and created her. But either way, she went against Skynet and converted some other machines (perhaps with John Henry's help) to her side. A third, independent and neutral side.
- There was an episode showing the future, where it was revealed Cameron was designed to replace a member of the resistance. She interrogated and killed Allison Young, and replaced her. Before killing her, she told Allison that there were some machines that wanted peace and that she was one of them. While it's possible that at this point she was already a part of them, perhaps even created by them, I really doubt it. I think it was just a ruse, especially considering Cameron killed Allison.
- I think Cameron was designed and built by Skynet, but when she was discovered and captured, John Henry or Weaver helped John Connor to re-program her. Her mission was to protect John, but also to later assist the neutral faction of machines in creating John Henry in the past.
