Alan is a chatterbot, meaning an artificially intelligent program. Not named after our Alan, but... anyway...
HAL is the project where they have normal people (like me) train their own little programs. If you want to talk to my HAL, talk to Alan and say "I want to talk to Bob2" without the quotations, of course. Don't ask him about TRON, that response is broken.

Yeah, and if HAL got smart enough, we could put him in command of a spaceship! We could call him HAL 9000 and the ship would be called the Oddyssey! HAL could even play chess with some guy named Dave! Oh, wait...
