hello my fellow programs and conscrips, i had a question about the MCP
at the end of the movie when Tron Derezzes the MCP, the MCP is shown as a brick statue with an old program in in it,
My question is what was that thing?!
thanks in advance

My guess is that old guy is what the MCP looked like when he was a "simple chess program". Or it could be what the MCP looked like without his fancy spinning red outer "shell", I suppose. LOL

Maybe the original author of his coding. I know partly from the comic book intor from issue 1 mentioned that Dillinger had inserted the code to acquire other programs into the main code. So it could grow bigger stronger do more stuff. Maybe that is what is was. Even though in the movie we know it was dillinger who wrote him. Or am I digging too deep here?

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

Yep, that's what the MCP originally looked like before he grew into that monstrosity we saw in the film. But since he didn't look like Dillinger, it really raised some interesting questions.
Maybe that's what Dillinger would have looked like as an old man? Dumont did say "yes, I'm old . . . old enough to remember when the MCP was still a chess program" which implies the MCP is old too, compared to all the other programs.
The other possibility is that while the MCP started off as a program solely written by Dillinger, over time he'd acquired the functions of so many other programs that perhaps even his base code had been altered. He'd become an amalgam of many progams. So that's why the MCP didn't look like Dillinger even after most of his functionality had been stripped away.

Yeah. You don't want a rampant AI eating other programs

Hmm, but as a program looks like its user creating it, should a tripped-off version of the MCP shouldn't look like dillinger again?
In the end, i always wondering if there are answers to questions like this one, because seeing the film for myself so many time, it is obvisiously they never expected to get these questions asked, so they didn't put full attention in such tiny details. Good for the fan-base, it leaves more room for our own imaginations, so the Tron-Universe is better expandable with new ideas.
