I think the 32-bit version of Vista still supports 16-bit programs, so a lot of old games will still run. But the 64-bit version of Vista doesn't support 16-bit software any more.
So in that case, you'll need DOSBox in order to run a lot of old games.
Either way, I'm pretty sure the compatibility of old games has been further eroded in Vista, unless you mess around with settings (compatibility mode).

Currently, I've got no plans to upgrade to Vista because just about every old game in my collection runs extremely well if not perfectly on XP Pro, and I'm not about to give up the compatibility I now enjoy.
Speaking about compatibility, the fact that MS has broken hardware accelerated sound for DirectSound3D applications is also a con of upgrading to Vista. I didn't buy a Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty just to be limited to experiencing pre-DX10 games in stereo, after all.
Anyway, MS may stop selling XP in January of 2008, but because it has committed to supporting XP until 2014 I have no problem waiting a few years to see how Vista matures.

Too bad that many MMORPGS's require monthly fees.
Luckily, there are some completely free, and some only require you to buy the software (without monthly fee).

Here is something interesting. I finally found an online game I really like, it works great on the PC and you don't have to invest hours upon hours just to further the game a little.
Also, it is free to download with no trial periods... it's complete freeware but perfect retail quailty...

This is true. I remember when I had played quake 1 or quake 2 as an example it was great playing online or as a small network locally which was fun to do. And of course our favorite tron 2.0 also does that. I think some of the gaming companies are catching on with that where you have to pay in order to play. Qixx has shown another one which does just as good as well if not better and its free. I was chacking it out myself. Looks good I might play it on my celery over here when I get a chance to or on one my my dell computers.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.
