How come there are fan made 3D Tron games, but no fan made 3D Tron screensavers? I'm not complaining or anything, I'm just wondering if anyone has or can make one or has seen one somewhere. A screen saver where light cycles run around a grid or a tank shoots recognizers would be pretty cool. I remmeber seeing somewhere. Not here at TS though there was one tron 3d screensaver. But what he used as images was from the game though and in the size of 50 megs though. I can't rmemeber where though I'll have to take a look and post a link to threir web site or download the screensaver. And ask one of the admins here to put it in the archives. WIth the authors credits for it being made.
Note: Side note found the website for it with a visual walkthrough as well for the game. Here is the link for it to download the screen save. Its 50 megs in size. There are several other screensavers tehre as well from other games. But the one if your looking for for tron its the last one on the list there.

I wonder how you make screensavers. I think it would be cool to make one, as well. If someone can point me to a good tutorial on how to make your own screensavers, I would like to try. One stipulation would be that I want to use 3-D objects or scenes (like from Lightwave or 3DStudioMax) in the screensaver. I did a Windows Screen Saver based on TRON. Real simple, just lightcycles racing across the screen.
My friend Kevin Karstens also made one for Windows that is rather interesting.

Thanks for the screensaver links everyone! I think the one DaveTRON listed that was done by Kevin Karstens is the TRON screen saver you find most often these days. Its the first one I found when searching a while back and I used it for a while.
Anyone remember the screen savers that came with late editions of Windows 95 and 98? (I think) The one that was basically a randomly generated first person maze? I remember this place I used to work at had that screen saver and I played with it to make it look like a light cycle grid. I made the walls either blue or red and made a bmp of a grid for the floor and just plain black for the top. *shrugs* It was my little attempt at TRON entertainment back then.
But using something like that or the GL Tron program, couldn't someone make a screen saver that basically generates random light cycle stages from either first or third person views? I've seen 3D screen savers like the ones by VRMan. It wouldn't be impossible. It would just take someone who knows how to program 3D graphics and such.

Visual Studio express is now free.... forever it looks like. As are most express editions of Microsoft Developer Studios....

Now if Microsoft would just do the same for the basic versions of Windows XP and Vista. Or, at least, sell them at a very reasonable price. The prices on Vista (and even XP) are way too expensive these days.
Very cool (and smart) that they decided to make Visual Studio Express completely free. Now students will use it in droves.
