I agree, that is pretty slick. It may be a while before people can customize their own clothing, though, and Phillips seems to be more excited about the prospect of advertising more than anything else.
But yeah, that's really awesome looking and could definitely make a very cool Tron costume.

LOL I just saw this last night and was going to post it here. That technology is one of the most AMAZING things I've ever seen! It had better make it to the consumer market...
I think it'll happen. Promotional crap will come first though for companies who can afford to pay thousands of dollars for the prototypes. What'll really be neat is if someone develops a customizable shirt. Like the programmable scrolling LED nametags that we have now. Imagine being able to plug the shirt into your PC and then uploading an animated .gif to it.
Gosh... wearable LCD screens.... that's just... wow.

Wow, that's insanely cool.
Can you imagine if that was used on the costumes in a Tron sequel during the live-action segments?

And if this advertising gimmick doesn't work, the scientific community will be hard at work trying to find a way to put commercials in dreams like in Futurama.

You also have to remember that if you had a Tron costume made out of this illuminated fabric, you could change from Tron to Sark with the touch of a button and some cardboard.

Yeah, I've been watching (err, reading about) this light-up flexible fabric stuff for a few years now. Pretty awesome. And, yes, I've read the military has many uses for it.
